And finally Cold Storage arrives in Jurong. For years, I’ve been complaining that the Diary Farm group must discriminate the residents in the West. After all, before this new branch in JCube, the furthest west Cold Storage was West Coast Plaza. Although positioning wise, Cold Storage is suppose to be more upmarket than its competitors, this particular branch actually succeeds in providing just the right mix between value and quality. When it comes to freshness of meats, seafoods and produce, Cold Storage trumps NTUC any day. Prices these days at NTUC isnt exactly cheap and definitely cannot compare quality-wise to Cold Storage. I particular love how the meats, seafoods and frozen food are kept in proper sliding door displays which keep the temperature and freshness in while saving energy consumption as opposed to open-styled ones. Another major draw for me is the available for shellfish like mussels, clams and cockles. Cleaned and packed, extremely fresh and affordable at wet market prices too.

Adding to the supermarket choices in Jurong East, now on top of NTUC and Giant’s, there’s a slightly upmarket choice of Cold Storage at the newly opened JCube mall’s basement. If you stay in the West and you’re planning to cook a very european/western meal, you’ll have a better chance with your salmon and herb ingredients here than ntuc or Giant’s and I’m telling you this based on my personal experience. I couldn’t find fresh salmon fillets and herbs like rosemary and thyme at Giant’s and found the perfect selection at Cold Storage JCube — they have all kinds of fresh herbs from basil to rosemary and thyme — all fresh in packs. There’s also beetroots and of course freshly fillet-ed salmon priced according to the weight. There’s also all kinds of pasta and pasta sauces that you can find here and not forgetting the range of cheese! Way more variety than you can find at Giant’s and NTUC. Final verdict: Great upmarket supermarket choices in Jurong!
