CHIPPY

Located at the basement of the shopping centre, there were various food outlets for quick bites. One of them is Chippy which offers british food fare such as the traditional fish and chips, and sausage with mash for takeaway. But its most well known item on its menu would be the Fried Mars Balls. Sounded quite sinfully and naughty, but it was a hit with the old and young. Recently Chippy has gone through a rebranding and reopened with a new look.
Fried Crumbled Calamari and Fries ($ 8 /​combo)
For combo set, it was served with a bottle of lemonade. The lemonade was sour and not too sweet, with a slice of juicy grapefruit on it. The fried crumbled calamari and fries was served in a chinese wire handle take out box, which one usually saw in US dramas, but not common in Singapore. It was quite unique.
I had requested no chilli powder on the calamari and fries, yet the serving was covered with the spicy chilli powder when I opened the box. So sad.
The batter was light and crispy with chewy calamari inside.
The chilli sauce and mayonnaise was served in a separate container, but I did not use it as the food was already quite spicy for me.
Fried Mars Balls with Ice Cream ($ 4.90)
The pipping hot crispy balls were drizzled with chocolate sauce, served on top of the ice cold vanilla ice cream. If you did not like vanilla ice cream there was also a choice of chocolate ice cream. Encased in a thin crispy batter, the balls were filled with layers of gooey thick caramel and rich melted chocolate. Super sweet and yummy. It was an explosive combination of sweet, hot and cold with the ice cream in the mouth.
Overall the food was not bad. Except for the mistake with the chilli powder on my order, the staffs were quite friendly.

AWESOME COMFORT FOOD!
It used to be one of my favourite stalls growing up and I remember getting from Chippy’s, be it a fried mars bar or fish and chips, at least a few times a week when I pass through plaza singapura on the way home from school.
Definitely not for the health conscious, but so good for the soul. Their fried mars bar is one hell of a guilty treat but its so good that I almost never regret it. Served with vanilla ice-​cream, it’s one of those perk me ups that never fails to work. They do pretty great beer-​battered fish and chips too. While I would not say that it is done the way it is in britain (which is not exactly a bad thing), it is nonetheless a mass of fried goodness. The fish batter is really enjoyable and tasty, yet light! A meal there costs approximately $ 4-​$ 6, which is pretty cheap! Their servings are reasonable too, enough for a growing teenager to be full and satisfied!
There isn’t a sitting area, as evident in their shop name. So be prepared to walk and eat, or eat around those standing tables in the basement of plaza singapura.
