In a city teeming with great Asian food choices, this infamous buffet at the M hotel in the financial district boasts all the local foods — pig trotter, Singaporean chili crab, satay sticks, and everything else in-between. The variety and spread are impressive, but the taste of the food is average. And for the price tag, you can find yourself some more authentic tastes at a local Hawker Center or even the nearby touristy Lau Pa Sat. The buffet costs $ 70.62SGD, and $ 49SGD with a coupon found online. Even at the discounted price, it wasn’t worth the price tag. THEFOOD The foods are arranged along one entire wall of the restaurant, split into sections. There was a raw section(sushi, fresh broiled shrimp, scallops, oysters, sashimi), iced lemon tea and coffee station, hot foods(pig trotter, soups, cheeses, Singaporean chili crab, salted egg crab, prime rib), steamed section(scallop sieu mai, steamed mud crab), crab section(snow crab legs, other local varieties of crab on ice), and desserts(asian desserts, fruit tarts, chocolate fountain, cakes, ice cream, mango ice). The sheer variety was very impressive. I loved the general Asian theme, but with some western staples like prime rib(presented half cooked, and then seared to your preferred level of well-done when ordered). My favorite thing was the fresh broiled shrimp served on ice. They were so succulent and fresh, and large. The juiciness and firmness of the shrimp really stole the show. The scallops served on their shell were also very impressive and well-cleaned, not an easy task. Finally, the steamed mud crab was so tender and warm, delicious and easy to eat. The other crabs didn’t taste as fresh and were not as impressive. Most disappointing were the«traditional» Singaporean dishes of chili crab and salted egg crab. I definitely tasted better outside. Iced tea and water are are unlimited and there’s an option to add unlimited alcohol for an additional cost. THESERVICE While the food was not impressive, the service was wonderful. The servers were polite, friendly, and very quick to bus our tables. OVERALL It’s a nice buffet, but won’t be the best Singaporean foods you can find in the city. Good option for a fancy dinner with many options or if you’re staying at the hotel.
