This is a review of a solo lunch at Ban Mian Formosa located in Food Junction(3rd floor — Bugis Junction — #03−30). I was running errands. I was hungry. I knew there were stalls at Food Junction that I had not checked out before. I selected Ban Mian Formosa. They specialize in noodles(knife cut and fried handmade) Menu Sign: The staff was professional and proficient. I would not say they were particularly friendly. The food is prepared fresh. It will not come out immediately. I would say it takes about ten minutes(maybe a tad more). It is worth the wait. Plus, that allows some time to find a table, throw down a tissue packet, and visit the beverage stall. The stall area was very clean and well-maintained. In general, this is true of the stalls and other areas at Food Junction. The food was very good. As I mentioned before, it is freshly prepared. This was my first time having Dao Xiao Mian(knife cut noodles). Each dish was neatly presented. Dao Xiao Mian(knife cut noodles) w chicken — This was piping hot. It is such a great comfort food. The soup had a strong peppery flavour which I enjoyed. The noodles were velvety. The only negative was the chicken was a tad oily. But it was also super tender and, when dipped into some hot sauce, it was actually quite good. I would have certainly eaten more. Also, this was a large bowl of noodles, very generous. If I had a flu and you brought me some of these noodles, you would be my pal forever. Fried Dumplings — These were very good also. Instead of the provided mix of vinegar sauce, I chose to dip them into the hot sauce. They were perfectly fried. They had just the tad of crispness I prefer in fried dumplings. They were not too oily. The flavour was delicate. The Cost: Dao Xiao Mian $ 6 + Fried Dumplings $ 4 = Total $ 10 Overall — I really enjoyed my lunch at Ban Mian Formosa. The noodles were freshly made, freshly cooked, piping hot, and flavourful. The same was true for the fried dumplings. I thought considering how much I enjoyed the food, the price was very reasonable. (Note on Food Junction: If you are in or near Bugis Junction, this is a very handy place to go for a nice meal served by friendly folks in a clean environment. It is especially good if you are shopping with someone and you can’t agree on what you would like to eat. Food Junction has enjoyable options for all. In peak periods, it can be quiet busy. But I find with a little diligence I can find a place to sit. The prices aren’t too bad either.)
