AMK Hub

If you compare it with some major heartland mall, AMK Hub is consider small in terms of size.
But this mall do have lots to offer, You can find a big supermarket, few restaurant, banks, and also Cathay cinema. So is not a bad place to visit if you need get some food after grocery shopping or maybe catching a movie.
AMK Hub also integrated bus interchange and shopping mall in one, and it also have an underpass that link to Ang Mo Kio MRT station.

AMK HUB is 1 of my fav hotspots for shopping and dining. Although it’s not a very huge shopping place like the JEM or IMM, u can find anything in ANG MO KIO HUB like BreadTalk on Level 1, Mr Bean on Level 1 & B2, Four Leaves Bakery Shop on Level B2, Challenger on Level 2 & Mini Challenger on Level B1, a always bustling food court on Level 3, cathay cineleisure on Level 4, a restaurant called 18 chefs with lots of delicious food next to the cinema, a huge NTUC FAIRPRICE xtra on Level B2, Giordano store on Level B1 and many mini food stalls on Level B2 like Taiwan Shilin Food Snacks etc but I am wondering if there’s a Popular Bookstore in AMK HUB then will be perfect, hahaha.
There’s 3 points for improvements :
Firstly, the toilet located near the main entrance at Level 1 is not clean enough.
Secondly, the escalator should be maintained frequently to make sure it’s working finely. Last time, the escalator suddenly stopped and a lady behind me stepped empty and gave a push, luckily I stand strong like a tree or else I would definitely roll down the escalator, phew~
Thirdly, the Christmas & Chinese New Year Decorations are not attractive at all, making me no mood to take photos.

I frequent AMK Hub at least twice a week for groceries at NTUC Xtra in B2 and it’s strange that only after several years do I sit down and write a review for it.
There’s pretty much everything you would need in a heartland mall in AMK Hub, there’s cathay cineplex on the top floor, next to the arcade and eighteen chefs, that closes at like 230am. The NTUC in the basement sadly isn’t 24 hours like the NTUC at nex. But there are options like S11 across from AMK hub should you need 24 hour food.
There are lots of shopping options, like KIYO, G2000, Bossini etc, for food options, there are Swensens, MOF, NTUC food fare and also Pepper lunch. There is also a Singtel that you can go to to take a queue number and wait like 30 minutes to be served.
It can get quiet crowded on weekends, and the basement does have a lot of food options to-​go/​takeaway if you need something quick, after a trip home.
There are usually promotions going on, like in the month of december, spend $ 150 and get $ 20 of AMK hub vouchers. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

Very nice little mall with many eateries and random stores.
Families with kids overtake it on weekends, so it can be a bit hectic– but overall, it’s a decent place to hang out.

Right next to my uncle’s HDB apartment tower. So much better than Westgate mall in San Jose. Bigger better and very lively. It is right next to the MRT Station when you get off and you can also go directly from here via SBS. There is a lot of good food choices to eat here and you can choose it over going to a Hawker Center. To me it is so much cleaner too. Everything you need and want is here

One of my favorite heartland malls because it has everything you need. A Challenger was added in the past couple of years and there’s MS Color for cameras. The Cathay cinema at the top floor is also one of the most comfortable. Not many people realize it but there’s also a food court in the Hub which has pretty decent food for cheap. Not forgetting my favorite Gong Cha which also recently established there.
Moving downwards, there is also the famous durian pancake at basement. Dian Xiao Er and Soup Restaurant is also there and I would pick the former if one has to go for a family dinner. Which is precisely why this place can get buzzing on weekends. The huge NTUC Fairprice downstairs also gives you all the groceries you need.
All in all, it is a very heartland yet quality mall serving up a functional need but having a emotional place in my heart.

What was AMK like before AMK Hub? I can’t remember.
And yet this monstrosity… connected to the bus interchange, and just across the MRT station, AMK Hub is as centrally located in the town as it can get.
It’s got all the hallmarks of a typical suburban ‘hub’ or mall. Its layout and array of shops about as inspiring as one floor of NEX or all of Clementi Mall and City Square (which is to say, not very much).
I come here to use the banks and sometimes go to the movies, but other than that there aren’t that many shops that catch my eye or that I’d want to hang around in.

AMK Hub is the biggest mall in the area, and the default place to go if you’re in Ang Mo Kio with nowhere to go. The main attractions are the supermarket at the basement, the IT large store Challenger, and Cathay cinemas at the top floor.
The rest are tuition centres, a food court, fashion outlets, and others. There are a number of restaurants, including Fish & Co. New York New York, and Ichiban, and some street food-​style stalls in the basement.
It’s also linked to the bus interchange and MRT station, which makes it very convenient to get to and from the mall. This make the mall quite crowded at times.

My favourite place to go for movies in the ‘hood! The next closest option would be Golden Village at J8, but I tend to associate them with musty seats and tiny theatres. So basically, this is the only reason why I come to AMK hub on a regular basis.
The rest of AMK hub well… could be improved on. Even though it is huge, surprisingly, there aren’t a lot of good dining options here. Soup Restaurant in the basement and Ichiban are the only two respectable restaurants here, but the queue for Ichiban is always ridiculous and Soup Restaurant is expensive. Their food court is decent (the fish soup is delicious!) but I usually opt for having a meal outside in S11 before a movie.
The shops you’ll find here are quite standard for a suburban mall. There’s Cotton On, Mondo, Face Shop etc… The selection is not fantastic. I’d rather shop at J8, even though it’s smaller, because it has better brands like bYSI and Aldo.
All in all, a good place for movies, and nothing more.

Don’t be afraid if you’re trapped in the lift at AMK Hub.
There was once I got into the lift with my friend and a whole bunch of strangers. Instead of pressing the «close door» button, I accidentally pressed on the «speaker» button which was located just next to it. Instantly the speaker cackled to life.
«HELLO? Who pressed the button!»
Silence. I was taken aback.
«HELLO? DON’T PLAY WITH THE BUTTON OKAY!»
Luckily I was with a sensible friend and he apologised into the speaker, to much laughter from the people in the lift. So yes, their security guards are very vigilant and are always there for you.
AMK Hub has done much to revamp Ang Mo Kio. The area has changed from a small town sprinkled with separate adjacent shophouses into a bustling town with a major landmark containing all the shops inside. It marked the end of the era when people staying in Ang Mo Kio had to go Bishan Junction 8 for a quick movie fix.
I visit the place weekly. Usually I have breakfast at Coffee Kaki, then shop at Watsons, then go to Fitness First to do all my stuff and if I’m with friends we’ll eat at Ichiban Sushi/​New York New York or the S-​11 hawker just next to AMK Hub. Don’t tell the CIA where to find me. There’s not much shopping joy to be found though; unless you are a homemaker, then Fairprice Xtra is your one-​stop.
