If you can’t get to Morocco, then this place will be your best bet to get a slightly similar experience, in terms of the dining experience at least. This joint is really popular mainly for its comfy carpeted floor seating and the shisha it offers. Food wise, it is your regular Middle Eastern offering stewed lamb or mutton with spice tossed rice. The one simple dish that I do enjoy and find great to share would be the pita/flat bread with various dips. Each unique dip adds a kick of flavor to the perfectly charred bread. The only set back would be the lack of staff to cope with the 2 floors so sometimes it can be quite a wait to get served. Then again with an environment like such, you seem to feel a whole lot more patient.

Amidst the plethora of Middle Eastern inspired eateries dotted around the Arab St and Haji Lane vicinity, Ambrosia strikes me as one of the better ones Ushered in by a friendly smiling host, we were shown upstairs to a cosy carpeted room filled with cushions and low tables. Surrounded by a somewhat international clientele owing to the backpackers’ hostels in the area, we truly felt like we were in a tiny pocket of Singapore that wasn’t. Food: The menu too, reflected the exotic and international feel of the restaurant, comprising dishes from Spain, Italy, Greece, Egypt and the Middle East. We got the melitzanes tiganites, essentially eggplant deep fried in batter, fish shish kebabs, an absolutely mouthwatering tender lamb shank with fragrant saffron rice and Moroccan chicken with couscous. Delicious! Service: Majorly understaffed. There was only one waiter serving the second floor and the food took forever to arrive. He seemed a bit flustered but to his credit, was very earnest and fairly eager to please. Definitely plenty of room for improvement though. Ambience: Lovely, cosy and comfortable. Highly recommended if one wants to avoid the heat and more ghetto feel of the open aired cafes littered around the area.
