I usually don’t review gas stations or convenience stores but this one is for fellow guests staying at the resort. Because when you’re bleeding money out of every orifice staying at the Marina Bay Sands, you gotta slow the $ outflow somewhere. This 7-Eleven is located on a quiet corner at the Shoppes at the Marina Bay Sands, which is a collection of posh and luxury stores. Though its stuff is definitely un-posh and not-luxury, it’s a relief to anyone who doesn’t want to quench their thirst by spending S$ 25 at a fancy tea café(such at the one at the Canal Level downstairs). I appreciate a store layout that makes sense. Open space without sliding doors or doors to push makes it welcoming and inviting. The neatly stocked merchandise lured us in and we weren’t really looking for anything at first. 3 things you’d probably look for here: Souvenir-ish goodies, like the Merlion cookies and chocolates out in the front for that last chance of gift-buying before dashing to the airport; or some cold beverage because you’re drained from the miles that you’ve walked from checking out every level of the mall; or a S$ 2.05 lunch that you can’t get anywhere on the premises. The store layout beyond the open entrance leads the customer to the packaged foods and snacks, then to the hot foods /Slurpee machine, and to the cashier where you can pay and walk out. The variety of goods carried was sufficient and almost impressive. For example, instant noodles. I never eat instant noodles at home but I spent 10 minutes figuring out which ones(plural) I wanted to eat, because I wanted to try them all — which then leads me to why I love this 7-Eleven. They stock brands with which you’re already familiar back home but the flavors are all local. Cup Noodles, for example — featured not-boring flavors at all. Instead of the plain oriental, chicken, and shrimp, tey have Tom Yum, Chilli Crab, Spicy Seafood, Seafood Curry, Laksa and Prawn. Not just shrimp, but Prawn. How about that. Thanks for stocking these so that I could eat them and take 2 with me to the next city. Basically, everything was well-stocked and well-organized. Customer service was sufficient and the floors were clean. Also, because there is no one around, I can gawk at everything and be in nobody’s way. I wish I found this 7-Eleven before spending money on the overpriced mediocre though fancy food court downstairs. I hope this review/yelp listing can save someone some money… there are definitely better things to spend on at the MBS!
