Really cool hidden bar with a variety of bottles and cocktails available. The staff is nice, the food while limited choice is delicious — tried both the Poutine and the Ham&Cheese plate and both were great. The ambiance is speakeasy-ish and there aren’t too many seats inside with primarily counter seating. With that said it is one of the more interesting bars I have been to and a selection of American whiskey a that I have never seen outside of US. Despite the somewhat pricy drinks I highly recommend!

What’s not to love about Secret Mermaid! Howard, the owner, has literally taken a busy MRT underpass into a Speakeasy. It’s hard to understand what I’m talking about until you see it yourself. Outside of Auld Alliance, The Secret Mermaid has the best collection of whiskeys on the Red Dot! The bar specializes in craft whiskeys from the US of A. They also have a nice selection of craft beers as well, but I wouldn’t call them Secret Mermaid’s specialty. The place is rather cramped. Could fit 20 people max, but quite intimate. It’s perfect for dates or having nice conversation. The music background is something that I would listen to. Overall, a chill speakeasy with great drinks in a location you would least expect!

Good variety of American spirits here with friendly waitstaff. Reliably good cocktails and food. Docking one star for its location, in the middle of a bustling MRT station, and having too few seats.

Once you stepped into this bar, it’s easy to forget you are in the middle of a brightly lit walkway to the MRT with all the after work crowd rushing home. It’s a pretty small bar — good for a drink with a couple of friends but not more. They have a list of interesting looking cocktails — I had the strawberry basil fields which was pretty tasty but a little sweet. If you are a whiskey fan, they have a good selection here. Happy hour ends at 7pm with cocktails at $ 12. Otherwise you are looking at an average of $ 20 a cocktail which I think is a little overpriced for the place and quality of cocktail(at least for the one I had).

It’s a perfect location in the corridors of Raffles Place MRT(whatever they are actually called), «somewhere on the left past Paul». I go there frequently for drinks with CBD based friends and just because it’s a very convenient weekday location. The menu has changed somewhat, particularly on the drinks side, since Kevin Petrie has left. It’s less experimental, more classic cocktails and in a way that’s a bit of a shame because SM was the one place where you knew you could get something really different vs «twists on classics with our cool spirits». There was also a strange lack of any«sour» flavour to all the cocktails, which is rare since so many classics rely on it — the list leans towards Old Fashioned-style sugar-and-aromatics-over-brown-spirits. But it’s still good drinks, service is still excellent. The place is packed every time I go now, although that’s not hard when you have something like 10 seats. The house specialty is American spirits, and there are tasting flights as well as cocktails based on the spirits. Some — like Montanya rum, or Sparkle Donkey tequila — are really good and worth trying. Others are a bit more of a hipster experiment gone wrong. You should take a risk and try all the flights before getting settled into what you like going forward. Prices are, as with Ah Sam, a bit higher than they used to be, but still great value considering the location and crowds. It’s worth buying a bottle and keeping it there if you work nearby.

I’ve heard about this place for awhile but getting a tasting platter for a song on Sugar provided me with the incentive to make my way down. This place is ideal for after work drinks, with nice happy hour(5 – 7) deals. They have a mean cellar of whiskeys, rum and vodka that come from the US and are happy to provide you with even more samplers if you are genuinely interested! Friendly and knowledgeable staff paired with good alcohol. I will probably swing by again for their mojito(ask to pair it with the crusoe spiced rum). PS. I still haven’t figured out what’s the deal with that light feature on the bar counter.

Super cute, tiny little hole in hole in the wall under Ocean Financial Centre. How to find — take the escalator down near OFC, it is near the Starbucks and down the sloping hallway from Cedele and Paul Bakery. Happy hour — $ 10 old fashions and $ 11 house pour drinks. And free tator tots! Maybe not such a good idea to give this gem to the world…

Hard to find if you have no idea what you are looking for. We circled the area a few times. So awkwardly asked for directions. One of the barkeeps happened to pass by and told us where it was(we didn’t know she worked there until later). I ordered a negroni because I was craving it. The negroni was allright(my fave is at a bar in Stockholm’s gamla stan) but the service was good and the people who work here are friendly. American stocked bar. Will try some of their other drink offerings next time :-)

by day, an unassuming but delicious salad joint; by night, the salad panels flip, the entryway closes into a speakeasy style secret door, and voila, Shinkansen becomes The Secret Mermaid. inside, you’ll find great little bites. I tried the tater tots and the fried broccoli strips, and both were very tasty and paired well with the stellar drink lineup. and that’s really the star here. The Secret Mermaid is staffed by an expert mixologist and stocked with some eclectic craft spirits from the US. I tried an old fashion made with tequila which I was very worried about. I mean, tequila? really? wow, you really got to trust these guys as I was blown away by this tasty cocktail. there were definitely strong notes reminiscent of an old fashioned while still being completely novel. also, I had one of the best negronis I’ve ever imbibed here. this secret is worth hunting for.

the secret mermaid. what an interesting name. most bars have some sort of a mermaid in them in the US(who knew) and it is basically a secret door in the tunnels around the Raffles place MRT stop across from a starbucks. while the place is small, the staff is very friendly. in the evening they have a bites menu that includes greats like deviled eggs and tater tots. this is a mixologist bar with some very unique bourbons, vodka, and gins. while they have only been open a few weeks i will be going more. they also said that they have salad and sushi until 7pm and the bar opens at 5pm.
