After having seen their nitro cold brew coffee featured in the Westjet magazine, I knew I had to check out Fools + Horses! Nitro cold brew comes out of a tap, and in fact is infused with nitrogen, just like Guiness! Cold, bitter(without being acidic, true to cold brew form) and smooth… the $ 4.5 drink lived up to the hype. Delicious and served in a beautiful glass to boot! The café itself is distinctly hipster/yuppie, serving local coffee and beer, and dairy-free/gluten-free chocolate chip cookies(tasty but on the dry side). Minimalist décor accented with wood. Not usually my kind of vibe, but the visit was well worth it… even managed to watch the Pride Parade from inside!

Great coffee. Decent, clean décor. Baked selection was almost gone when I arrived. I will definitely return when travelling through YWG.

The place where every single hipster in Winnipeg comes out to play. Their pesto parm toast is what real fluffy parm should be. Divine.

After touring the WAG’s Olympus exhibit we walked over to Fools and Horses for a snack. It was totally worth the 10 minute walk over in the cold. We had a brewed coffee and a latte. My husband had a brewed coffee which he immediately said was good and didn’t require any milk to enjoy it. The latte espresso was strong with a smooth finish and the milk was nice and frothy without being foam. They use Pilot roasted coffee beans for both. We decided on a ham and cheese croissant and cinnamon bun as snacks. The cinnamon bun had a bit too much icing for my liking and the bun itself was a little dry. We thought both items would have been better if they had been warmed up. The atmosphere was great and the aesthetic of their espresso machine was really cool, unlike anything I’ve seen. We also had the pleasure of being served by Amy who was friendly and made the experience a memorable one. She took the time while making our drinks to talk about why they’d decided on such a different machine and the pros and cons of having it. If downtown again I’d go back.

This is my new coffee shop in Winnipeg. Ordered an iced latte sweetened with their homemade vanilla syrup on a beautiful sunny fall day. A little piece of heaven.

Can’t say anything about the wine or beer aspect but the coffee was very good quality. Got a London Fog with Bailey’s. Was a little pricey. Tasted very very good. It wasn’t hot enough for my liking but I think that’s because the Bailey’s cooled it down a bit. I’d ask for extra hot next time. Staff was very kind. Made conversation with them while they were making my drink. The atmosphere is great too. Nice little patio. Definitely would recommend it!

The creamy almond milk latte was the best I’ve ever had; Mr. Kahn’s Falafel Sandwich was warm and perfectly spiced; and the staff were all smiles. The bright, minimal décor has plenty of room; more comfy chairs would be welcome. If you’re in the area, don’t bother with the usual coffee places — Fools & Horses is worth seeking out.

This is probably my new favourite coffee shop in the city. I got a latte, as well as their toast. One toast had strawberry vanilla beet jam and the other was a mango rhubarb jam, and both also had organic ricotta on a seeded rye. I like that I could mix and match with the different flavours of toast, so I could try more than one flavour. I preferred the strawberry vanilla beet jam over the other one. The latte itself tasted good. The shop was quite spacious with lots of windows and tables and seats available. The only downside would probably be its location, since it is in downtown, and meter parking is only good for 2 hours max. I hope to return again shortly to try other things on their menu. I should also add that they also have beer and wine on tap, which is the first of its kind in the city!

I happened upon Fools & Horses when I was in town for the World Cup. Basically, I was there 3 times in the span of 26 hours. It was the first place I went when I arrived in Winnipeg after a long, long drive. The coffee and toast were so great that I figured I’d stop back but what really made the place special were the people working there. EVERYONE that worked there was so nice and helpful taking time to give me lots of recommendations of things to do when I was in town. I wish they were in Chicago, I would go there all the time.
