The first review here was back in 2009 by my Unilocaler pal Crystal H. Our first Unilocal leader. She’s one of he few who’s reviews I enjoy reading and respect and trust. 6 years later, I finally make it here on a lucky chance after a round of golf with some friends for brunch. We tried the Eggs Benedict, Pasta, Clam Chowder, a pint of beer and Corned Beef Sandwich.(see attached photo’s). Overall the service was nice, friendly and efficient. Food came out in decent time as we chit chatted on the balcony on the sunny summer day. I’m giving them a solid 4 stars because of the service, the friendliness and the pub style food. Sad to read the lesser reviews of this place. Maybe it’s the timing we came and were lucky enough to avoid the night pub customers. Most important thing when you read reviews, is to check out how many reviews the writers write. If all they write about is a gripe, they’re not using Unilocal in a constructive manner. So if you’re not sure, drop by and give it a try. My experience and my friends experiences here were A-OK.

I showed up tonight to join a group to watch the game in the back room. I sat patiently for 10 minutes… no server in sight. I figured I would just go to the bar, no big deal right? Wrong. The bartender(blond girl) told me that she would not serve me and that I had to order drinks from the server. I told her that at that point I had been there for 15 minutes with no server introduction and still no drink. She could have easily fixed this by serving me a beer! Instead she rudely pointed to a server across the restaurant and said ‘there is your server’. 5 minutes later my server got my order. I drank it and sat there for another 20 minutes with an empty glass in front of me. I was there for a total of 1 hour and had either no drink or an empty glass for 50 minutes. If I was the owner of this place I would be absolutely appalled at my employees basically turning away customers and watching money walk out of the door.

Very disappointed. Came in to get a to go order for myself and aunt(who is 92). I got her fish and chips which was ok. I asked for a bunless burger and salad. For $ 12 I got a patty, 2 slices of tomato and a piece of lettuce. I was told it would look nice with a salad. TERRIBLE!!! Dry. No flavor no salad. I has to use my aunts tartar sauce. I won’t be back

I have been to this place on and off over several years. I brought my daughter because it was good in the past. However, today was a disappointment. The front door greeting was lacking as we told to just follow him and he dropped the menus on the table and then sat the other guest while talking to them at a table beside ours. I have diet restrictions that I spoke to server about before I placed my order. When our food arrived my daughters burger was burned and mine was not what I ordered. The veggies that I ordered steamed only were cold, the cold salad was on the same plate as the hot food, the salmon was coated in oil and seeds which I requested to be removed from salmon. The tomato in the salad was not fresh. The server was good about getting the meal corrected. but it took time which made us late. I will not be returning. Not worth the overpriced food. too bad because it was a good place.

Despite calling ahead and the place being less than a quarter full, took over an hour to get our order. The eggs had eggshells, the burgers were tasteless. Had been in the past and was ok, but I won’t be wasting money there again.

OK so it is a very busy Friday night, but if you can’t handle the volume then hire some more staff, or at least get some that can handle the job! Owner/manager was really rude when he «greeted» us, the waitress didn’t tell us her name, got the order wrong, didn’t keep our drinks replenished, then only took one drink order instead of asking both of us what we wanted, didn’t bring us cutlery or serviettes with the starter, didn’t check on us after we got our food, and then brought us the wrong bill and didn’t apologize. Then the poor dear got surprised when we didn’t leave a tip — the only tip I have for her is to take more care of the customers!

This is about the Hotel not the Bar & Grill. We stay at Red Lions all the time stateside. We found the person at the front desk who we called rude an short. the room we received was cramped and very small. The TV offered the least amount of channels we have EVER experienced, even regular channels were pay per view, they also do not participate in the other Red Lion Rewards club. As a Platinum member of Red Lion, I’d say pick somewhere else to stay than here.

Received exceptionally great service for our party of 5 plus 4 kids — super nice, friendly and attentive. The portobello mushroom burger was really good! I’d go back for another afternoon drink and snack.

Solid little pub in west Van with an amazing pasta dish on the menu — Spaghetti Trasteverini. Do yourself a favor and try this fantastic dish! Spicy, flavorful and a large portion for a reasonable price. Always worth a visit to the Red Lion for a plate of goodness like this!

while I enjoy the food(their quiche is to DIE for), and have been there about 5x, the service could be more consistently friendly and warm. for example, I had one server(tall brunette) who not only was quite cold in service, but was later was also seen patting a dog extensively on the patio(gross, man!.. don’t serve my food after saying hello to dog fleas/dead skin)…other servers that I have had were fine, but this one was a big thumbs down. she should work at a earl’s or milestones etc that teaches QC and cust service… afterall why should I revisit this place when I got into an argument and left feeling jaded? there are too many businesses wanting my dollars.

I have stopped in here 3 – 4 times in the past couple of years… it is getting worse instead of better. I’m not sure why but the care of this place seems to be going down hill… it is too bad cause it is in an exceptional location in west Van

British ‘olde world’ charm(whatever that is?!)…anyway, this place has good crème caramels though.

Last week we came in for a pint during the Canucks game. We’ve been here before and only grudgingly returned; there are very few ‘pub-like’ places to go in West Vancouver, and this is one of them. We knew already about the bad food and the pricey pints, etc. but hey — we were thirsty and the game was on! A very round, inebriated man with a bald pâté and some sort of accent greeted(I use that term loosely) us at the door — maybe he is the owner? Anyways he waved us on crankily to our seats in the corner. A very nice lady served us. No complaints about the service this time, although in the past, we’ve had some incredibly bad servers at the Lion. When we were done — actually before we were done; we were just about to ask for the bill — ‘Mr. Rotundo’ marched up with a ‘Reserved’ sign, presumably for the next customers, & slammed it noisily down on our table. Turned about abruptly and walked off. The server came up with our bill and apologized, saying«I guess he just couldn’t wait?» Nice of her, but this guy is a piece of work! Piece of something else, really. Do yourself a favour and don’t pop into the Red Lion. Hopefully someone will be able to get another liquor licence nearby and run this bozo into the ground.

Cool décor, outdoor patio, but overpriced. $ 7.77 for a domestic pint? Come on…

A great meet up space for a cheeky after dinner work pint with friends from the North Shore. They have some fabulous beers on tap — Kronenbourg is my favorite! And more importantly, they take care of their beer keg lines(phewf!). Although West Vancouver is an older crowd, they tend to have some good live pub music on most nights. Definitely worth a whistle wetting.
