I have pretty curly hair and phoned in to Hennessey(North Side) to get it Japanese straightened. Came in for a consultation and everything seemed alright. It’s my first time doing it, so all I had to go from was the research I had done online. I honestly can’t remember what the lady’s name is, but she is the only one who does it in the salon apparently. And she’s asian, if that helps narrow it down. Anyway, actual procedure day. I walk in, she ushers me into the chair and begins instantly. I had had a few questions I wanted to ask beforehand, but she seemed in such a rush. The whole procedure took about 3 hours, when I had expected at least 5. I honestly felt like she rushed through it, and at the end, when she finished, she told me that my hair type wasn’t going to be able to be 100% straight. It would have bumps here and there. Maybe if she had taken her time and straightened it a little better, it wouldn’t have any bumps and waves. Honestly, I went home and took my flat iron and straightened out the parts she had missed with her flat iron. Like really?! I should not be having to do that. If I(an amateur) am able to see and have to go over hair sections that she(a professional) missed, there’s a problem there. Also, I was not offered tea or coffee or even water throughout the whole thing, even though it took 3 hours, and I could see other customers drinking coffee, even though they were just getting a simple cut/colour. Also, she charged me $ 420 when we had agreed on $ 400 during the consultation. Yes, this is already expensive for straightening, relative to other salons in the area, but I thought I would be paying a premium price for premium service. Nope. She was friendly enough as she did it, but throughout the 3 hours she would constantly sigh and tell me how difficult it was. Like ok, once or twice it was funny, but after that it just made me feel like I was being a burden. And, yes, it’s annoying to straighten hair like mine, I get that, but I paid over $ 140 an hour(and tipped quite generously). AND it’s her job… So, yes it’s difficult, but I wasn’t paying someone to complain to me about my hair… Also, another super annoying thing, was that during the consultation, we had agreed that for that price, she would trim the ends, because they were really dry and split. I wasn’t expecting a full on haircut/style. Just a trim to get rid of the dead ends. But after she finished, she said the ends looked fine and that they wouldn’t need a trim. But they clearly were NOT fine. They literally stick out in all directions now and look like straw! I feel like she was just too tired/too lazy to actually do them and just told me they were«fine». I can’t wait to go elsewhere to get them fixed. I wish I could redo the entire process and just go elsewhere.
