I am crazy about Roger’s chocolates, and have been since my first visit to Canada over 30 years ago. The outlet gets fresh bargains most mornings, plus they have some of the other choices the regular stores have. May I suggest Maple Nut, Rum, Wild Cherry, Raspberry, Marzipan???

Freshly-made chocolates with high-quality ingredients are astonishingly common on Vancouver Island — Rogers, Callebaut and Purdy’s come to mind. What makes this location great is that not only can you smell the chocolates being made, but the specimens that aren’t jewelbox-perfect are sold to gluttonous sorts like me at a very, very reasonable tariff. The associate who helped us during our most recent visit was well-informed about Rogers’ history, very funny and generous with the samples. We left with a big bag of goodies of all sorts, and a plan to return soon.

Ever since arriving in Victoria, I have loved Rogers chocolates. I have tasted chocolates from all over the world, but no one compares to Rogers either for their chocolate or for the cream fillings.(The fact that each candy is a huge 45g also helps — they weigh as much as a whole chocolate bar!) I especially like the commerce drive location. It is the main factory that produces products for the downtown location, but it still has the antique décor that makes the original location special. But unlike the downtown location there is plenty of parking and not too many crowds of tourists. And that is why I have to visit them every holiday to get my chocolate fix.
