Don’t expect great service here or you’ll be very disappointed! Food is good and its one of the better value based Chinese spots in Victoria. Soups are authentic, Lunch specials are fast and usually very good. Ginger beef on rice one of my favourites, nice and crunchy! Beef brisket and noodles always good. Fish dishes are fresh and tasty. Great food and count your blessings if your service is any good cause thats not why you go here!

I’ve been going to Ho-Tong since the early 90s, it use to be called Lin-Heung I think? Anyways the food is always very fresh and hot. When talking about quality of their food and the extremely reasonable prices for how big the portions Ho-Tong is my #1 go to for Chinese food for lunch or dinner. Some of my favorites are Vegetable and BBQ Chinese style chow mein, soya sauce chicken and of course their bbq duck and bbq pork Mmmmmm so Hungary right now. Also if you you’re a fan of dumpling soups with noodle do the bbq pork with shrimp dumpling soup also a few other of my favorites are crispy ginger beef and cream of sum-young-guy. That last dish was a joke :) I love you Ho-Tong see you soon

I like ho-tong restaurant because their food is delicous. Yes, their service may sucks but that doesn’t make me stop going there because I am eating the food that I like and taste. I do not freaking care of customer services as long as their foods are good. That place is very popular because whenever I went there to eat dinner for celebration, there are so many people in the restaurant so they are making good sales. The prices are cheap and worth to pay for. Ho tong’s employees are Chinese so their English is not too bad but not too good. They are busy almost every day because there are so many customers. One time I went to the ho tong restaurant to eat with my friend, I had to wait in line to order take out, took us 30 minutes and we went home to eat it and it is good. Even though they are busy, they can make food tasty. You need to know how to order because if you order something sweet then that dish would obviously be sweet so don’t complain about it.

Referred to restaurant by local Victoria BC resident. By myself so ordered the combo B plate. The spring roll came out first, smelled nasty and tasted like they hadn’t changed the oil this year. Couldn’t stomach the smell or taste of it. Then came the plate with broccoli & beef, chow mein and sweet & sour pork. The plate had the same nasty smell and the taste was disgusting. Being Chinese, I know good Chinese food. Unfortunately this wasn’t. I ate a few bites and went to pay. After paying, owner shoved an empty cup at me and said, «TIP!!!» being warned is being aware.

The food was too sweet and I’m pretty sure we got a dish returned by another table. That said, the service was awesome.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food. We had Kung Po Beef and Garlic Eggplant and both were very flavourful and delicious. The Kung Po is a tad on the salty side but I’d rather that then no flavour. The service was kind of abrupt and left a bit to be desired as mentioned in the other reviews. I would just get take out.

Ordered the Kong pow chicken on rice for lunch, was disappointed. ½ oz of chicken only, then drenched in sauce. That was too salty. Didn’t feel well after the meal. And I didn’t even eat half of the plate.

Forget those fancy cleanses like Master Cleanse, Rose Herbal Detox or that one with the lemonade, honey and cayenne. The food here is an excellent alternative to an enema. I’ve spent the last 24 hours having the after effects of their food rip through my bowels. Just like Draino, it’ll clean you out, but leave you hollow inside! This is the second time that Ho Tong has done this to me(this time with my pregnant wife). Time for an anonymous call to the local health inspector.

Like a couple other reviewers, I experienced some really bad service as well. I went with a party of 9 and we sat there for a good twenty minutes before a woman came to serve us. She walked off WHILE we were ordering to answer a phone. After ordering, it took forever to get our food. The man who tossed our food to us did not tell us the names of the dishes, so we didn’t know who’s dish was who’s(the menu did not have images). He was unfriendly the entire time and when we asked him what the names of the dishes were, he mumbled them and stalked off. The food itself was NOT good. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl. It had more broccoli than actual chicken(the chicken was alright, kind of dry) and the rice was soaked in sauce to a point where it was a bit soupy. The others in my party complained that the wonton noodle soup tasted like dishwater, but said that the Shanghai noodles were pretty good. Overall it sucked.

I’ve been to this place a few times and its always been pretty good and price is reasonable. I went last weekend and had sweet and sour chicken balls that had enough sauce for at least another order or two. I also had the crispy chow mein which was alright but the flavoring was a bit weird, not to my liking. I guess i got what i paid for cause i ended up getting really bad food poisoning. Probably will never eat there again– Thanks Ho Tong!

The food is usually good but the service is beyond bad. One time, my mom and I entered at 8pm. No one greeted us and we stood at the front for a few minutes. A small Chinese man looks at us a few times while walking in and out of the kitchen doors. He doesn’t bother to acknowledge us. He was the only waiter that we can see. When we grabbed his attention, we asked«how do we get a table?»…he answered sarcastically«by getting a table». We just left because we felt like they don’t deserve business that evening.

I’m not sure if these folks know what customer service is. We reached Ho Tong restaurant for dinner at 8:10 pm. As soon as we sit, the first thing we are told is we close at 9 pm. As we are vegetarians they did make some adjustments to their dishes by not using Oyster sauce etc. Around 8:30 they start switching off the Neon«Open» sign on their windows. We had just started having our dinner and the cheque comes on our table. Another 5 minutes and the lady comes to our table and asks if we are going to pay cash or use a credit card. I had already lost my appetite by then. After that the crew was literally watching over us and it was 8:40 pm. If they were in so much hurry to leave they should have not been in restaurant business at all or they should have not even taken us in at 8 pm. Food at best was below average. Stay away.

I had been recommended by somebody that works near by that he goes for lunch here sometimes so I just stopped by here yesterday for takeout since my bf felt like having chinese food. Looked through the menu posted on the window outside and decided on three dishes: shrimp lo mein, crispy ginger beef, and kung pao chicken. I typically order ginger fried beef when I go to chinese restaurants… it’s a sick habit, I know: P We walked in and were promptly IGNORED for a few mins although the lady at the counter and the other guy running around saw us. I’ve worked in a restaurant before… always acknowledge a customer, even if you can’t get to them right away. She finally comes over to take our order and we place it. Then we wait. No probs. I see people coming in for their takeout orders and it just confirmed my thought that the ppl here are unfriendly. Got our order and took it home: shrimp lo mein was ok, not great, not horrible. Boring and bland. Kung pao chicken had enough salt to last us 5 days. I couldn’t eat it. It was also 70% veggies rather than chicken. Last, the crispy ginger beef… well, they messed up and gave us ginger chicken instead o_o although on the box they wrote down ginger fried beef. I don’t know? Anyway, get it if you like eating fried blobs of dough in sweet sticky sauce. It’s probably on par with Fairway’s hot food dept. which was also fried blobs of dough the one time I tried it out. AVOIIIIIIDDDD!!!
