I’m the kind of person that doesn’t plan my trips until… I’m on the plane. Hence, having one or two books with me for the flight are pretty much key for my not being completely lost at the destination :) I’ve typically just gone for the standard Lonely Planet guides… so I was surprised by the knowledgeable staff member at The Travel Bug assuring me that the Maui Revealed Ultimate Guidebook was my best option. Nonetheless, this woman had a very convincing accent that just screamed«I know travel»… so I went with her suggested books. Both books I bought turned out to be awesome — so big props to this place for not only having a good selection of travel books, but for their staff knowing specific details of each book!

If you hate Google Maps… they have old school maps. The kind that screams, «Caution confused tourist ahead» when you fold out your map the size of a beach towel. I bought an LA/Hollywood map for my best friend for his B-day/V-day so that he can properly pin point and get a better perspective(that Google Maps wouldn’t be able to provide efficiently) all the record stores and bakeries that we want to go to. The guy at the cash register was friendly and helpful. They have other travel books as well for further research on a specific place you want to travel to. There’s only so much the internet can provide. P. S. They also have local city maps as well.

Travel store with a travel company in the back?! This is really a one-stop shop for all your travel needs. I went here right before my voyage to Europe and the store has everything you need plus everything you didn’t think you need. I ended up walking out with way more stuff then I imagined but all these trinkets came in really handy on my trip. The staff is friendly and won’t try and sell you fluff(stuff you don’t need) so go in with questions and they will be sure to give you proper answers.

There is definitely a plethora of travel gadgets and travel books/guides of all sorts here… they had a rare copy of a travel guide that I really wanted. I havent used The Travel Bug much but I can say they are very helpful and have one of the largest travel book stores in the city. There is also an booking agent section within the store… The store is located at the west end of Broadway, but worth the trip if your taking a trip.

When you wish the travel section at your local bookstore would explode and engulf the biographies, references, and sudoku section? Then come here. It’s always fun to browse, plan and think about an upcoming trip — it adds to the excitement! With entire shelves stocked with novels and multiple travel guides from various countries, a travel bug could get caught up here for hours. I got a friendly vibe from the staff which made it feel ok to hang out a while and get lost in a book!(Just be warned, they were really chatty with me, which is great, unless you’re wanting to get in and out in a flash!) There’s a plethora of travel gadgets for the compact traveler and an awesome selection of worldly calendars(If nothing else, I’ll have to stop in for my 2010 Calendar!) And a section of books dedicated to BC too — day trips, hiking, camping, coffee table books etc. I picked up a couple of gifts for out of town friends here too!

This is a store for classy backpackers. Not necessarily the kind that carry abnormal amounts of duct tape and bundle up their extra sweater for a pillow. I stopped in here to have a good ol’ browse and ended up finding a hiking book on Newfoundland that made an ideal belated birthday gift for my Dad. It must have been close to closing time, though, because the cashier spoke far faster than any normal human being. The selection of goods is pretty specific here, but the books are quite beautiful and vibrant. All around: a bit too polished for my travel style.
