Well they do have good pies, they’re service is terrible. I bought a whole apple pie from them, took it home put it on the oven to warm it up and then went to eat it, ended up not being an apple pie but a peach pie. They would not get back to me about replacing the pie, or even apologize for the giving me the wrong pie.

I’ve been coming here for lunch for about four years because I work in the area and when I heard our office was moving my first thought was«thank goodness, no more Tartine!» Don’t get me wrong, they make nice soups, tasty sandwiches, and their baked goods are pretty darn good on the whole. I love the butter tarts! This is what gets them up to two stars. Nothing else can earn any more stars. Prices? Very high for very small portions. Over $ 4 for the breakfast sandwich which is smaller around than an english muffin. $ 9 salads that are premade(ew) and are in between the size of a side salad and an entrée salad. Best value is the soup for $ 5 because you can take lots of fresh baked bread to go with it and make it a meal. The toast with avocado and tomato is a good deal, too. Everything else is really expensive for a neighbourhood bakery/café. $ 7.50 for a cheese sandwich with ONEPAPERTHIN slice of havarti with some veggies and condiments? Uh, no thanks. Service: pretty awful. The staff are nice when you get to know them but holy crap, none of them understand the meaning of haste. I’ve waited in lines that go out the door and see the servers gossiping with customers instead of moving on to the next customer. Or gossiping with each other instead of making sandwiches. My orders, which only have the odd sub/mod like no cucumbers, or easy mayo, are wrong almost half the time. And sometimes they take the food to your table for you but most times they just yell out the order… no, they don’t ask your name they just yell«turkey sandwich!» Food Safety: special section. Try watching the cashier as s/he gathers some of your order. Watch how s/he deals with cash and then puts her/his grubby hands on the inside of your soup bowl or muffin baggie. YUM! At least they wear gloves when making sandwiches. And on a humorous note, if you aren’t a fan of overprivileged mombies and their underdisciplined children(and their strollers that make it impossible for you to get anywhere) you might want to give Tartine a pass. Overall I’d call Tartine a nice place to go to once a year for a great slice of pie and cup of joe. When it’s not busy. And ask your server to wash her hands.

Went in to pick up a sour cherry pie the other night and it was so disgusting the whole thing went in the garbage. Gelatinous pie filling out of a can into a store bought crust for twenty dollars. I will never darken their door again.

I’ve been to Tartine before without much issue but this particular experience was a bit baffling. I ordered 2 pies(salted caramel apple and elvis) for Thanksgiving dinner a few days in advance to be picked up the night of our dinner. I was quoted $ 40 for the 2 pies and my order was repeated. Come Friday night we were told we only ordered 1 pie which was the salted caramel apple. there was no record of us having ordered a second. Ok fine, it happens, it’s just unfortunate because we needed to feed dessert to quite a few people so we had to swing by Earnest to grab extra ice cream. What I don’t get is the phone call I got the next day asking if I was still coming to pick up my other pie, the Elvis. I told the woman what happened when we picked up our order and her polite response was«So you don’t want it anymore?» I said«well no because we needed it yesterday.» She says«ok I will cancel the order then.» without an apology or an admittance to miscommunication. Very bizarre. Also my dinner guests did not enjoy the salted caramel apple as the mixture had way too much salt in concentrated areas. I was really disappointed with Tartine’s food quality and customer service. We will likely go elsewhere the next time a reliable dessert is needed.

I am living nearby and coming to this store many times. However, I found their service is getting worse and worse. Especially an old dark skin lady, her attitude is so bad and no patient at all. I feel very disappoint with this store now, and very angry with her bad attitude. I think they don’t need old customers now because they think they will have more new customers.

Met a friend here for lunch as it’s in her neighbourhood and she is a regular. It was packed at lunch time and it was tough to get a table but eventually got one outside — it was cold and rainy and I got wet but better than standing! We asked our cashier for a recommendation for sandwiches and he suggested chicken salad as it was their most popular. Really yummy but very basic. My friend went in and surprised us with two pies — some sort of red fruit pie and the buttermilk blueberry which was my favourite! Fantastic service and super nice food and tasty food — I will be back!

… Meh. I was here a couple years ago and thought their pie was amazing. Came again today reminiscing about their pie, ordered a peach and dream pie and breakfast sandwich. Breakfast sandwich was too much bun and not much filling(also, a ~$ 2 increase to simply get multigrain bread?!). The pie… First of all, presentation: they cut the slice poorly and actually piled the bottom crust on top because it came off from their initial cut. Second, service: ordered for here, and he served me the pie slice cold. I asked to reheat and he put it in the microwave(…You have… An oven). Third, taste: probably better if it was reheated by oven, but the filling has clearly split and was lumpy. Will definitely not be coming back.

I’ve tried four different desserts here and they were all killer. Ate lunch once and it was very good. Coffee is pretty good. Nice quiet setting, if you can nab a table outside.

Such a cute little bakery on the edge of Yaletown, I love it! If I lived within the area, this will literally be my spot to hang out and get my daily bread: P I see a lot of those who live in the area come here for bread, since their daily bread loaves are always sold out. And their pies though, the best thing ever! I had their Rhubarb Strawberry pie, I was dying already of how delicious it was. Then I bought a take out slice home for myself, because I was gonna have it for desert the night after which is still just as delicious! Came here with a friend and had some coffee and pie. Yup, totally worth coming. And the free parking is 2 blocks down. Very close within the area, and after a nice coffee and pie, walk the sea wall! Walk off those calories and enjoy the amazing location it is in! Will for sure come back to this place, only regret is that I don’t live in the area to get their daily loaves of delicious bread they have to offer!

Quick, casual, well priced and great quality, that’s Tartine in a nutshell. Had a chicken pie today and its on par with many of the Aussie pies I’ve had back in Oz, and for only $ 5? Fantastic! Tasty, flakey shell with chunks of meat in the filling. Lovely quality coffee and the sweet pies and crumbles look and taste like they’re straight out of a home oven. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area and up for a casual meal.

Tartine is in my neighbourhood so I go there fairly often. The pies are amazingly delicious and so are the butter tarts! The chili, soups, and sandwiches are all good too. I also enjoy the breakfast sandwich. Unfortunately, the service is poor which can sometimes make for a frustrating experience. The coffee is also not great. However, it is still one of my favourite bakeries in Vancouver!

Best place for a slice of pie. Prices, portion size and taste are unbeatable. The Banana Toffee is my favourite but I have never been disappointed with any of my choices. I have tried the sandwiches and other lunch items but find them to be a by pricey and quite plain they should just stick to the pies! If you’re looking for fresh PIE this is where you need to be.

Two words: butter tarts. I had heard about this Canadian phenomenon on my(first) recent trip to Vancouver. As a San Francisco native, and a culinary school/college grad, I pride myself on knowing my way around pastries. I had heard about butter tarts as being some sort of Canadian traditional dessert, and I had to try it. To those who may not know what a butter tart is like(i.e. Americans such as myself,) it is a flaky, pie-like pastry that tastes like the center of a pecan pie. The flavors are primarily brown sugar and butter. Absolutely incredible. Also, I ate the avocado and tomato toast. The bread was thick, seeded, and substantial. It was fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Tartine. You not only were smack dab in the middle of my walk from my hotel to Granville Island ferries, but you made the most memorable and delicious pastry of my entire trip to Vancouver.

Nice bakery! I went at the lunch time and It was pretty busy! I had BRIE sandwich that comes with good amount of brie, lettuce etc and if jam. Light and tasty! Love the mixture of the brie with the jam. I also had small tarts and my favorite one was chocolate. Lovely location with good food. i will definitely go back to try more of their great menu.

I love pie… almost like I love doughnuts. Lately I’ve been all about coconut cream pie, but Jubilee told me about Tartine and its awesome banana cream pie. It’s in my hood but I just never got around to popping in. Then my special day rolled around and Jubilee, being the sweet bug she is, brought one to me. Tartine’s pie was everything I wanted and needed it to be: a flaky delicious crust filled with a pillowy cloud of whipped delight, bananas and banana cream. Trifecta of delicious — ohhhh ooooh ahhh yumness.

My best friend and I accidentally found this place on one of our walks one weekend. They have a decent selection of in house made pastries. Limited seating. The area is not obvious is your walking by as it’s in the middle of nowhere, hence the lucky find. The staff were really sweet and friendly. We had the lemon meringue pie, however, there was more meringue than lemon. Unbalanced ratio but good none the less. Prices are reasonably fair.

I was fortunate enough to live in walking distance of Tartine Pies. 5 stars for great food but 4 or 3,5 stars for price value. Amazing pies and baked goods combined with hot sandwiches. I love panini with beef and melting cheese and their chicken salad sandwich are heavenly good. Every pie is great but the cinnamon bun really standout. I love their cookies and their free sugar muffins are perfect for on the go morning ritual. The only downside, every time I go to this place, they never give you the bag/paper bag regardless how much item you buy(I never buy just 1, 2 but 5 or more different items). I ALWAYSASK them every single time I come here and each time always with different server. Perhaps it’s their protocol/manual. Lol.

I live around the corner from Tartine, so I’m there frequently, anywhere from 3−5x a week. Really big fan of their breads, sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, tarts, pies, and coffees. All of those are done really well; sandwiches and salads are made to order(their multigrain bread and cranberry mayo on their turkey sandwich is heavenly, and they freshly cut up fruits and cheeses for their salads); you can tell bread/pies/cookies/tarts are baked fresh on the regular, and they’re all very rich in flavour and texture. I’m an absolute nut for their Coconut Cream Pie, the cream tastes so fresh and the coconut cream filing is packed with flavour. I really love this place and all of the staff are very nice as you get to know them and they get to know you. They would benefit from a more efficient workflow behind the counter in processing orders, to minimize the amount of time people have to wait and some of the confusion around which order belongs to whom.

I love Tartine’s pies – their bumbleberry is my year-round favourite and their pumpkin pie is great in the fall. You can phone them to pre-order a pie a day in advance, and sometimes on the same day if they have it in stock. For a quick snack, try their cherry tarts or cookies. They do all their treats and breads well, also serving breakfast items in the morning. When I used to work in the area, I would get a turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo on multigrain bread… so fresh and delicious, but a bit pricey(around $ 8). They have a daily lunch special and soup as well. Service is hit or miss, but their pies are what keep me coming back.

As Unilocalers know from my earlier thread on best lemon meringue pie, guess no one’s tried this yet. It’s a great place for a quick bite, as they have sandwiches too, for a casual coffee date too, it’s more than do-able, better than Starbucks imho. Tried their mini-ones for a buck and though not truly a LMP, close enough and better health-wise lol. Order a pie a day in advance can be your’s for $ 18! Glad they enforce a ‘no dogs allowed’ sign, even small dogs inside a café bugs me, imagine all the hairs floating around lol. metered parking all around.
