Eating here made me sad. My tempura was so obliviously reheated and soggy that I wanted to throw it away. The avocado in the rolls was brown, they give you a pitiful amount of wasabi… you get the picture. If I’d spent 30 seconds looking elsewhere I would have seen Fujiya 20 yards away and gone there instead, They have a much better looking selection of sushi. Lesson learned I guess.

This is the little sushi place that most people forget about because they see Fujiya and run right there before noticing this place. For the price point, it’s okay. It’s not great – but it’s okay. The sushi is around the same quality as Fujiya except a bit pricier and, although previous reviews highlight how they’re freshly made compared to Fujiya’s prepackaged rolls, they don’t taste very fresh. The tekka maki had the taste of not-fresh raw fish where it tastes fishy and almost cooked. It was strange tasting. The california roll was really wimpy looking. That being said, the woman there was really courteous and nice so maybe I’ll give it another try later on.

The sushi we had in Vancouver was insanely good and cheap. My friends needed to grab a quick bite and we found this tiny shop close to our hotel. I definitely did a double-take on the menu. Nigiri sushi was $ 1.05-$ 1.86 per piece… say what?! Check out the menu: I wasn’t hungry so I only ordered a couple of WILDSALMONNIGIRISUSHI to try. This wild sockeye salmon was a reddish-orange with very thin white stripes and it was delectable. I seriously can’t believe how good and cheap it was. If our stay was longer, we’d have definitely come back. Sushi Tei looks like a family-run, small business… come support them!

Tiny little restaurant tucked away in Bentall 4 — most people go to the Fujiya a couple of doors down but why get pre-packaged sushi when you can go here and get it fresh? Only 7 or 8 tables so most people get it to go. Just expanded into tempura and now they take debit so whoo hoo! Great rolls, great prices — a real gem! #30DaysOfYelp
