Value lunch option, with every rice meal you get a deep fried spring roll, their fried rice and curry are great

Reading all the Unilocal reviews from before I am pretty surprised by some of the negative reviews. If you go on any weekday at lunch you will see how busy this place is and how sometimes you have to wait for a table. I find the food good, consistent and reasonably authentic. The service is always friendly. I think it is one of the best Thai restaurants in Downtown and would recommend you give it a try.

Yeah don’t even bother to come here. Rude owner she speaks in Thai to insult people she doesn’t like. I don’t know how this place is still in business. Bad service. Very slow service. Servers have no idea what they are doing. Okay food, very inconsistent taste. If you ever had authentic Thai food then you wouldn’t like this place.

Love love love! I’ve been all over Thailand cause I lived in asian, and the food here is pretty damn awesome! I haven’t been able to try everything yet and I do have a favourite dish I tend to come back too because I am addicted but I am slowly making my way through the menu. Highly recommend for good food!

This restaurant is authentic in both means of decoration and food. We went there for the Taste of Yaletown combo, only to find it more expensive and quite unworthy, so we went for normal dishes. Food served hot and fresh, but the waiter is too busy to serve us in time. Also she was kind of gloomy and did not smile at us. Is this some kind of Thai style as well? In a word this restaurant is good, but not good enough to make me come again.

Well, the Taste of Yaletown website only showed one menu with 6 items(sans dessert), but our preview event had 13 items(2 appies doubled on one plate). I’ll list what we had below, and italicize the items that will for sure be featured in Taste of Yaletown: Pork Gra Paow Nua Pad Ped Salmon Pa-Nang Tom Kha Gai Cho Muang and Chicken Satay Beef Lettuce Wrap Tod Mun and Curried Prawns Tom Yum Goong Pad Thai Goong Chicken Massaman Curry The Pork Gra Paow came with light brown sauce with onion, bell pepper, green beans, mushrooms, and fresh Thai basil. I really liked the saucy pork and the crunchy green beans. The Cho Muang and Chicken Satay came on the same plate. The Cho Muang was a steamed flower dumpling stuffed with minced chicken, onion, and Thai spices. This was my favourite part of the meal because these were the cutest and were full of minced beef inside. The Chicken Satay was pretty juicy and I love anything marinated with coconut milk. The Tom Yum Goong was a bowl of prawns in hot and sour soup with mushroom, lemon grass, kaffir, green onion, cilantro, and Thai chili paste. The first I noticed about this was its delicate bowl with an ornate design. The soup is quite small so it might be hard to share but the prawns inside were delicious. The Pad Thai Goong came with shrimp instead of prawn, maybe to save space, but eggs, tofu, green onions, bean sprouts, and ground peanuts were also in the mix. These had a nice mix of sour, sweet, and spice and I only wish the noodles were so clumpy because the flavour was all there. The Chicken Massaman Curry was a classic Thai dish with red curry, potato, tomato, onions, and tamarind sauce sautéed onto the plate. The chicken was just a tad bit dry for me but had lots of curry to soak into which was a pleasant taste. Having all of these dishes at $ 35 was a great deal and I’m sure most couples will be stuffed especially if they fill up on the included steamed rice.

Not a fan of this Thai restaurant. I remember liking the food here years ago. I’ve been back twice now and the food is not the same. Over priced food and small portions. Definitely not going to return.

Almost 2 hours for a single diner having a lunch special. Textbook example of poor/slow/inattentive Canadian service. Hope you like flagging down waitresses.

We stopped in on a Tues or Wed night a few weeks ago after flying in from Atlanta. The restaurant was slightly busy and were seated promtly. I orderd the Pad Thai and my partner the Beaf & Vegetable. Once the dishes came I found the Simply Thai was overpowering with spices as if they threw in way to much by mistake. Our server was very apologetic and rushed the food back to the kitchen which from my observations the cooks seemed as if it was our fault! The server was back quickly and was very apologetic once again. My partners Beaf & Vegetables were fantastic but low marks for the unprofessionalism from the kitchen but very high marks for our waitress who was actally Filipino she had told us. Very attentive, caring and talkative which made us feel better about the whole experience and they need more girls like her! They just need to fix the cooks attitude in the kitchen to make this worthwhile.

It’s a good place but really no ambience and when you use canned bamboo shoots, you know you’re not going to get authentic cuisine. They try hard here… but not hard enough…

This place seems to have hit or miss reviews. Each time we’ve been here the food has been delicious and the staff has been both helpful and friendly. We stayed pretty basic: Tom Ka Gai and Pad Thai. Cocktails, we each picked one to try. The soup was creamy and flavorful, even our companion who doesn’t like coconut loved it. The Pad Thai was sweet and savory without being too sweet. We splurged on getting the dish with both chicken and prawns(well worth the extra charge) and it was enough for four to have a light, late dinner. Of the cocktails, the apple pie martini was the favorite of the group. Besides the really good food, even better, this place was open late on Sunday. Winner!

Was feeling something different today, so decide to come here for lunch today. Since it was a beautiful summer-like day, it was a no brainer to eat in their patio. Ordered the«Kao pad pong garee» which consists of fried rice with beef, onions, egg, Thai yellow curry topped with fresh cilantro. There was a chilli pepper next to the item, but thankfully they let me have it mild. I have to say the entire bowl was delicious and there is definitely a good amount of food! If you don’t usually eat much, you will probably have to pack at least half of it. The curry goes well with all the other ingredients beautifully. The only thing is that I thought the beef was a little dry and could have been more tender and juicier. I’ve been here a couple of times in the past and I feel it’s a hit or miss sometimes with the food. There are times when the food is über delicious, but the last time I was here I struggle finish my meal(because of the quality, not quantity!) The service was attentive and prompt despite I was out in the patio. Sometimes I hesitate to sit in the patio(at any restaurant) because there is a good chance you will be neglected, but it was not the case today. Anyways, based on today’s experience, 4 stars!

I absolutely loved the Penang curry with prawns. I had it for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the yummy bold flavors. I Will definitely be back to get that dish again :) also, my server was very attentive and sweet even though I was dining be myself since I’m traveling here alone for business.

Loved the food and the ambiance. We ate here with our two year old and they were very welcoming. We had the chicken pad see ew and salmon curry and broccoli in black bean and fish cakes and it was all delish. If you’re craving Thai food look no further than here to find flavourful authentic dishes. I ate so much but couldn’t get over the savoury chicken and noodles We loved it and will return, we live in Vancouver and have sadly neglected this spot but won’t anymore. There are lots of options to choose from that will draw us again as well.

I went here for the first time this week and must say I left disappointed and knowing that I will try to always take my business elsewhere in the future. Don’t get me wrong, this was by no means an awful experience, but given the much higher quality Thai food that you can find for the same or for better prices in Vancouver, I would just go elsewhere. I got Tom yum soup and pad thai. I always feel like pad thai is a good base to judge a Thai restaurant on and also it’s my favourite! It wasn’t the worst pad Thai I’ve had, but it definitely did not pas by my standards. Not tangy enough, and the flavor tasted more packeted than fresh. And no chives or lime to garnish. I love chives in my pad Thai, so big letdown. Here’s where I got p*** off: Asked the waitress for some lime wedges, which she kindly brought over. The problem is they are very close to putrefaction, squishy on the peel and almost yellow from old age. I don’t pretend to be a Thai chef, but I’m pretty sure that fresh lime should be something readily available in a Thai kitchen. If that’s what their lime looked like I don’t even want to know what else is rotting in the fridge. Would not return and would rather give my business to U&I, Bob’s or Salathai.

This was the first place that we ate in Vancouver and it was quite tasty even though it started off rocky. We were started outside and two menus were on the table. I started looking at the bigger one even though it had larger prices. After about a 10 min wait, we were told that one was the lunch menu and the other one was the dinner menu. Another issue was my phone said there was a WiFi for the place, but even I asked the waitress for the password, she said there wasn’t WiFi. I was so confused and hungry, I just moved on(my wife ended up using the WiFi from the coffee shop next door). We ordered our drinks and they were delicious. I had a mango colata, which was fresh and refreshing. I ordered the beef and vegetable dish, which was great the vegetables were fresh and the sauce was good. We also got two free spring rolls which was AWESOME. They had glass noodles inside then and were crispy. This is a good Thai place with great food.

Pad Thai is always my main dish at any Thai restaurant. Holy heck is this the worst pad thai ever! ! Never have I been asked how spicy do I like my pad thai. So I said mild. But even then its bland as heck. No flavor! It was expensive and a waste of calories. I was battling with myself to not waste money and eat it or not eat unnecessary calories. I would not recommend this place but if you must, do not get the pad thai! !!! You’ve been warned by this pad thai fanatic. what it includes: Pan-fried Thai rice-noodles in tamarind sauce with shrimps or chicken, eggs tofu, green onions, bean sprouts and ground peanuts. $ 15. it claims that its the real way. i guess i prefer the non traditional way then. personally i would say walk across the street and eat at rodney’s oyster house. tips: *cash and credit cards accepted. *indoor seating only. *has a lot of stickers on the door from places like opentable and zagat. *staff speaks english. *takes reservations. *its on Hamilton Street, between Drake and Davie. *serves alcohol [wine and has a bar] *it’s pretty spacious and can accommodate a big party.

After spending the morning at VAG(aka, Vancouver Art Gallery, which like, seriously should have chosen a different acronym for their acquisition stock b/c I am not mature enough to see VAG on all of their ID stickers — but I digress…) — we started wandering towards Yaletown and by the time we got ambiguously hangry, we ended up at Simply Thai — it was sufficiently hopping and we were thrilled to get a place on the patio — the lunch menu is small — a few soups standards, tom yum, tom kha, etc — pad thai, Thai stir fries, and a rainbow of curries(green, yellows, reds) — I dabbled in the scallops w veg and thai basil — amply spicy, but not in a way that blasted out my tastebuds — and the portion was appropriate for lunch. Word was that the pad thai was decent too. For soups/salads, it’s $ 9 – 12, noodle dishes/stir fries are $ 12(comes w a spring roll), curries are $ 14(comes w rice and a spring roll), and seafood dishes are $ 16(comes w rice and a spring roll) — I think it’s roughly $ 1.5 steeper than it needs to be, but it’s perfectly adequate Thai — not worth making a trip, but if you’re in the area, it’s not a regrettable option. Service is quite friendly and quick.

Went here with a group of friends on a Saturday night. We all ordered some jasmine tea for our meal. We made the mistake of pouring the tea before it was steeped, so we poured our hot water back in and all was good! Mmmmm, jasmine tea. Anyways, we started with lettuce wrap appetizers. These were the fanciest lettuce wrap appetizers I’ve ever seen! They brought out 5 «boats»(one for each person), in which there was a cabbage leaf cradling another leaf of lettuce, and lots of delicious beef and vegetables. Even though it was beautiful, I ate the whole thing! The lettuce wrap was the standout, but we also enjoyed the curry, pad thai, and vegetables. When they say spicy, they mean spicy! I was a little disappointed with the coconut rice, because it tasted similar to the jasmine rice. We all had a bite of the banana dessert — yum!

I’ve eaten Simply Thai’s food twice so far. The first experience was takeout for myself and other colleagues working late. I called ahead and found it to be an easy experience communicating what we wanted. Upon picking up the order, I thought the interior was beautiful and I should dine in some time. The one downside was that there was a long strand of black hair resting upon my colleague’s white rice as soon as he opened the container. That was quite a put-off, but we still enjoyed our food — we both got curries. Another colleague had the pad thai with shrimp which she felt lacked flavors. Upon my second visit, 5 of us came for a late dinner. The service was accommodating and my red curry with chicken was great — again. I was adding hot chili sauce to my dish which I ordered medium while my friends who ordered mild were saying their yellow curry was very spicy. Prices come out to be slightly higher than Urban Bistro which is just on the next block and has comparable food. They have brown rice and coconut rice. They also, like other places, charge way too much for either option.
