Interesting and expensive gifts. Prefer to see more local products instead of imported items. service is ok to mediocre. Parking is a challenge.

Cool stuff to buy here. Unique too. On the negative side, they had some items labeled«made in China». That was unexpected here.

Much needed category in the area, a higher-version of Ikea for kitchen products. For the summer, they carry some colourful picnic utensil sets, you can feel the quality when you hold it, and thus the price ;) Pillows, knapsacks, tea, yes, anything to make it Martha Steward. even offer their design services. I love the iMacs they have there ;) Online shopping available.

Really cool gift ideas here. I can’t list all the different things they have here. I’m into their scents, soaps, candles, lotions, napkins, doilies(but not old lady lace ones), table wares…

SHOPHOP2013 We did not have time to look all around the store, but what we did see was unique and original. Books from a «funny» Scandinavian authour about organization. simple old fashioned Christmas Cards. Beautiful artwork. I have already made my card list for this year. So what if it’s October, these cards are so simple and unique and cannot wait to hand them out! And my sock fetish continues. I could not leave without this brightly coloured pair!

Unlike most of the upscale furniture places in the area, this has a bit of color and some class, something that screams«hey look and me, I am not living in a neutral black and white world.» The colors aren’t over flashy either which makes it accessible for people with different tastes to buy as suggested and or make it their own. It’s simple, clean and has elegance and if you want to go flashy or edgy, you can make it your own and expand with other pieces to complement.

A gorgeous store, Orling and Wu is a celebration of new Scandanvian design and their textiles, displays and ideas remind me of more staid(certainly less of a color bomb) version of Lotus Bleu in San Francisco, one of my favorite shops in Hayes Valley. Full of unpretentious simplicity and understated elegance, the décor ideas in Orling and Wu are full of Danish design components and things that partner well with the light and bright. The shop is full of British Newgate clocks(drool), textiles galore, wallpaper prints, whitewashed plank walls, design books in line with their styling, and a handful of arm chairs and traditional/modern sofas by Stockholm designer Malmsten. Definitely inspired by this place, and a little surprised that the Unilocal reviews are not higher. This is a fun place to come in and be inspired by a blending of modern and traditional. I was dreaming of redecorating something beautiful, accessible and livable the whole time I was walking through this store.

I so wanted to like this store. Arrived on a Sunday just before it opened at noon. And waited. And waited. And waited. At 12:05 there were 5 of us waiting to get in. A retailer’s dream! Finally the lights went on. A couple minutes later, the owner finally made her way to the front door, picked up the«closed» sign and the empty cash drawer from the window, and walked away! We waited and then saw her carry an iMac out of a back room, put it on the counter, and begin connecting all the wires. Still with no acknowledgement of the customers waiting outside! Then she disappeared again. At 12:10, I knocked on the window– maybe she didn’t see us? She brusquely came to the door and said that she had to complete her security check before she could let anyone in and closed the door again. We left. There were SO many better ways to handle this. Like maybe coming to the door, smiling sweetly, apologizing for being late and letting us know when we could come in, for a start.

I like to browse through their wood and metal housewares, wallpaper prints, and vintage-looking picture frames and visit my sofa: A 1920s-style love seat, covered in a cream-coloured fabric, that just happens to fit my body size and shape perfectly. So stylish! So comfortable! I have daydreamed the owners one day saying to me, as I sit on the sofa, yet again, that they will give me the couch for a quarter of the price(!) for being its biggest admirer. The slightly more realistic alternative to this, if I want to own such a thing, involves working many moons… Money, I think I’d rather spend on a few good trips abroad or put towards a downpayment on a home. Orling & Wu provides a nice alternative to the ultra-modern looks in many of the other housewares/furniture stores in the area, but its stuff is costly like most of the rest. 3.5 stars…

A beautiful home décor shop in the heart of Gastown. I was always intrigued by the name of the place, and today I finally was able to check this place out. They carry a lot of tableware here, especially many ceramic items. My new found like for ceramics is in this store-by Mateus from Portugal. There’s a cute butterfly plate that would complete my ceramic set. As well, they have tables and arm chairs, lamps, towels, bath mats, and intricate tealight holders. Pieces here are elegant and unique. Their prices are a bit high(out of my range, anyways), but it’s always nice to browse a shop with such carefully selected pieces.

New home décor store, Orling and Wu located in historic Gastown displays some of the most inspirational objects for the home. When I walked in, I felt like I was transported somewhere in Europe. Owners and founders Fredrik Orling and Julie Wu both have the creative eye for sourcing the best design from all over the world. They carry unique product from handmade cushions by William Yeoward, Vivaraise bath mats and towels from France and my favourite, sofa pieces by Carl Malmsten. No matter what it is, I think you’ll be able to find something that will become a must have for your home.
