Walking around the streets of Vancouver looking for a light late afternoon snack we spotted the Mr. shawerma truck. My husband is from Lebanon and a Shawerma fanatic. If he sees it he has to have it, if he doesn’t see it he craves it, when he wants it he makes it. I could tell from the Arabic music the guys were listening to and their accents that this was going to be good. We ordered the chicken shawerma with hot sauce and onions. After taking his first bite my husband’s first words were«WOOOOW! This is AMAZING!» Ummmm did I mention he’s the pickiest eater? By picky I mean he picks everything he eats apart & finds something to dislike about it. He didn’t say one negative thing about his sandwich. I’d heard that the food truck scene here in Vancouver is pretty good, but we weren’t even planning to try any food trucks and bam! We did and it blew us away!

The special thing about this truck is that they make their own sauces. Having worked in a corporate kitchen, you appreciate the slight differences in flavour of your ingredients. I love their Chicken Shawarma Box. I’ve been going this place frequently since I discovered it.

My favorite shawerma in town so far. It’s super fresh and yummy. The staff at the truck is very friendly and it’s a huge shawerma that I ate for two meals. This is the only place I know of that makes fresh falafal. Amazing!

We love Mr. Shawarma! Right now they have a great special on where you can get two shawarma pita wraps for $ 9.99! That’s $ 11.20 for a meal for two, how can you beat that? Their shawarma’s are generously filled too and they don’t skimp out on anything — red cabbage, tabouleh, greek type salad(no feta though), creamy hummus, banana peppers, onions, hot chilis, olives, lettuce and of course the grilled chicken which is really flavourful and tender! Top that off with the tahini and some hot sauce, so awesome! The décor is… minimalist, but who cares if they can serve great food at those prices! We usually go for the takeout option and the only problem with that is that the pita can get a bit soggy by the time you bring it home. So here’s a tip… last time I asked if they could put the fillings in a separate container. The guy at the counter was a bit confused so he asked his manager(maybe the owner?) who was super friendly and said that next time we could just order it as the chicken salad and it would be all the same ingredients as the shawarma! So perfect! Go and visit Mr. Shawarma, you won’t regret it!

My eyes just didn’t believe the total, they still don’t. $ 17.90 for two chicken shawarma plates: complete with 2 salads*, 3 dips, tahini, rice and a heaping pile of chicken. Yes. A very filling dinner for two under $ 20 exists — in Kits. In Kits! If plates aren’t your thing you can order two generous pita wraps for $ 9.99. It’s a one man operation on a Sunday night, and if it’s busy** it seemed to get a little disorganized. Who pays first? Who gets served first? But it was worth the additional little wait for so much awesomesauce. Literally. Tahini, hummus, garlic sauce, a very thick tzatziki were all available to layer on. I kid not, they piled on scoops of everything high enough that I had leftovers for lunch the following day. If you’re feeling adventurous try one of the malted beverages which included Pomegranate, Apple, Strawberry etc. There was also a Strawberry Crush which looked very intriguing. But I didn’t need to ingest a cup of sugar in that moment, just a pound of hummus! *Salad choices included Tabbouleh, marinated red cabbage, green salad, tahini tomatoes, or Greek salad(minus the feta). **I use«busy» loosely, there was one other couple behind us.

When both guys are working behind the counter, they really keep the line moving. Great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner on the run. The meat is always tasty and the portions are generous. Prices are already decent, so if you get a wrap on sale price, that’s bonus. Delicious stuff!

After walking around downtown Vancouver for a day, while my wife and sister-in-law went on a binge clothes shopping extravaganza, I was famished. Needless to say, I was so hungry that I would have eaten a half baked donut, that was laying on the side of the road, but I digress. I stumbled upon a bright yellow truck called Mr. Shawarma. Being from the states, I had no clue what a shawarma was. I’ve had falafel before, and recognized the picture on their menu, so I ordered one. Needless to say it was so delicious that I gambled on ordering the shawarma. It was also delicious. I’ve dappled in falafel before, eating at the world famous Rainbow Falafel in NYC, but I am happy to say thY Mr. Shawarma Falafel is the superior product. I asked for spicy and I got it. The falafel itself was crispy and delightful, and the sauce was too die for. Which is why I went back for seconds, and explored the shawarma realm. The chicken shawarma was grilled to perfection, the veggies were fresh and tasty, and again the sauce was exemplary. Not to mention the warm and inviting staff. If I am ever back in Vancouver, I will absolutely stop back in to the yellow Mr. Shawarma truck. Except next time I will other items on the menu.

For a limited time they have all of their wraps for $ 4.99! My regular choice is normally $ 6.49 and the $ 4.99 portion size was just as big as it always is so I can’t deny them the extra .5 stars.

To be honest, I had no idea what a shawarma until I walked into this place. Parking here is pretty horrendous, as this is Hipster Land. The interior is a bit curious looking. Looks like something you’d find inside a haunted house. Just a bit creaky, but it’s clean. One word of warning: it is HOT in here. Think of the restaurant as one giant kitchen. The heaters for the meat vent directly into the dining area. You will break a sweat. Oh yeah, the place was also deserted in terms of sit-in. So you can probably throw an entire party, while watching the TV attached to the back wall. The food is quite reasonably priced, at $ 6.49 for a chicken shawarma. Most other dishes go up to about $ 8. If you get any item, soup is $ 2 on top. Not bad. The guy was really nice and let me cram my shawarma full of all these different toppings, with no limit. This was a good idea until I realized that water was coming out of the salads. Soaked my hand. Totally my fault. The guy also told us that of the soups, the lentil is homemade while the minestrone is purchased. So, go for the lentil. The soup actually was pretty good. There is this really awesome(non-alcoholic) malt drink called Barbican here. Look for the bottles with Arabic written all over. I had a raspberry one and it was freaking good. Then again, it was also $ 2.50. Lastly, the washroom here is clean as a whistle. Special mention here. The food is tasty and the service is a bit slow(this 1 guy has to do everything, can’t blame him), but the food is a pretty good deal, as it will fill one up nicely. Just be sure to get the takeout if you don’t want to bake.

Mmm my new favorite shawarama place! Came upon this place one cold night; I’ve always wanted to try this place out. I’ve heard good things about their Bada Bing food truck, so I knew this would be a good choice. I got a chicken shawarama which came with all the works. Tabouleh, garlic sauce, hummus, lots of chicken, and four kinds of salad veggies to choose from. Marinated tomatoes. Yes please! One bite into this and it was delicious! The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and all the components went together well. The extra veggies added the crispness which I liked. A truly satisfying quick meal! And to end off the meal, I couldn’t resist but to get a piece of their baklava! Layers of honey phyllo, soo good!

I was informed by a super Elite that they have a food truck too. So this place has to be good. Why? Cause food trucks are awesome! And she was right. This place was good. It was a precursor to our Elite event accross and down the street that night and my dear brother Jay came along for the grub too. Good grub. Vegetarian grub. Heart healthy grub. I got the falafel with cabbage and tabouleh and extra hot sauce with jalepeno’s and it just hit the right spot. It helped to give me enough energy through the night and the nice thing. I didn’t need meat to fill me up. Fresh ingredients, friendly service and clean place all add up to a near perfect score. Great place and a definate recommendation if you are hankering for a shawarma or falafel in this neighbourhood.

I freaking love Mr. Shawarma. Chicken Shawarma platter is most excellent. And I am not sure what sort of addictive substance that they are putting in their garlic sauce BUT I WANTSOMERIGHTNOOOOOW!

I’ve done the shawarma lunch twice now at this little W. 4th Ave spot and been completely satisfied on both occasions. The first time I had the Chicken which I loaded with all manner of tasty accompaniments — that yummy parsley stuff, olives, lettuce, tomato and the garlic sauce filled my office with it’s potent charm! Everyone asked me what I was having for lunch. My response was«A tasty mess!» And messy it certainly was. They filled the pita to bursting point. A truly satisfying lunch for about $ 7 and change. The second time I dropped in I was fortunate enough to find lamb on the menu. They cut it right off the rotisserie and packed the pita so full of the juicy meat there was Barely room for the humus, tzatziki, black olives and lettuce I asked for. Once again my office colleagues were hovering around my desk as I munched on my latest creation. I think they’re catching on… Be sure to ask for the loyalty card when you go!

Not sure what it is about them(maybe something in the baclava?), but they have the best customer service and friendliest staff I’ve encountered in the city! All of the staff are so friendly and helpful, which is a refreshing change to the usual cold, bored, dismissive staff I’ve sadly gotten used to here in Vancouver. I had a problem with a credit card charge at one point, which can always be stressful, but they were so concerned about getting it resolved, that it put me at ease. I love their shawarmas too. I skip the tabouleh since I don’t like parsley, and double up on the cabbage. Add chicken, garlic sauce and hummus and I’m a happy camper! Plus, it’s the only affordable restaurant I’ve found on 4th ave. Highly recommended — and if you go be sure to pick up some of their baclava baked in house!

Like everyone else seems to have mentioned, the flavor is lacking. It seems like they’re playing it safe. As my friends Indo-Canadian mother once told me when I was visiting for supper«Don’t worry, I only made this ‘white-people’ spicy.» I can handle a lot of flavor and a lot of spice, garlic is universally used, so why skimp on THAT Mr. Shawarma, why? This sounds harsh but it’s true: I’ve made better hummus in my Magic Bullet… at 2 am… drunk. I wouldn’t say it if it weren’t true. I had to put so much pepper in the lentil soup, and thought to myself«with a little bit of coriander, cumin and cayenne, this would be amazing!». I was thinking of ways that I could better a soup that I payed good money for… Over all my experience was disappointing. Will I find myself eating here again? If I’m in the neighborhood, and it’s the most convenient option I probably would go back. But if the question was, would I go back just for the food? No. No I would not.

Swung in on a whim. I’m pretty particular about my shawarmas. The only ones I can say I enjoy are Abdul’s at Crystal Mall in Burnaby and the places on Robson near Granville. I compare all else to those two and Mr. Shawarma did okay in the comparison. Needs some more spice though. It was a bit more like Subway than a traditional shawarma place that I’m used to. It’s definitely the best in the area, I’d go back. The price point is also good, especially for being in Kits.

Mr. Shawarma needs to get over his fear of garlic and spices. Dry chicken, bland hummus, and flavourless tabouleh was the verdict in our office.

* New shawarma and salad spot * Passed by today and noticed that PHAT closed, and was replaced by Mr. Shawarma. A quick look in the window and the salads and pita toppings all looked really fresh, so we stopped in to try it out. The chicken shawarma pita wrap included a very nice fresh tabouleh, a huge amount of chicken from the spit, garlic sauce, a very nice hummus, pickled beets, tahini, and hot peppers. A nice pita sandwich overall. I also got to try the falafel platter which had a very generous portion of salad(which had a nice hint of mint in the dressing), 4 large falafel(the long type, not round), hummus, pressed yogurt, and some pita. Overall for a quick bite, this is a nice little spot. I wish them luck!
