Watered down drinks and terrible service, no wonder the place was so empty

Very spacious, ambient venue to host an event with pretty good quality service. Washrooms have a touch of class in the detailing for choice of furnishings. Food is tasty, ample, and easy to eat in a social setting. Drink selection is limited but includes all standard bar rail and selection of local brews. Accessible by transit via C23 and 6 buses.

Very meh. I’d come here for a drink or two, but I’ve given up on the food. It tastes frozen and pre-prepared, and the menu is way too large. Service is okay. Prices are too high for what they offer.

To be fair, the only reason I went here was because my partner had $ 50 gift certificate. In short, I was pleasantly surprised by the creative menu(for a place like Moxie’s anyway) and the attentive service. I enjoyed the chicken bruschetta sandwich, while my partner complained the asian bowl was too saucy and she couldn’t taste the vegetables. My other friend had the classic burger with bacon added and enjoyed it thoroughly. And they had drink specials on a Saturday night, which(again) was a pleasant surprise. I have two Granville Island Grapefruit ales for $ 5 each. Would I go back? Probably not, only because I don’t live or work anywhere near Davie Street. But if you’re hungry and want to stick with what you know, Moxie’s will not disappoint.

Food very sub standard. Marguerita pizza was horrendous. Save yourself the time and go elsewhere

On Monday nights, this location has a 35 cent wing special, so I decided to try it out. When my fiancé and I walked in, we were greeted by two hostesses. We were asked if we wanted the lounge or the dining room. We mentioned we were there for the wing special, so we were given a(really nice) booth in the lounge. Our server approached us right away and told us about their $ 4 beer special. She even gave us a sample to try it. We ended up ordering two beers and two pounds of wings, with suicide sauce on the side(we ordered a third pound later). The wings were decent. They weren’t amazing but they weren’t terrible either; not too greasy and tasted pretty good. Nothing to write home about but the price was right. The suicide sauce wasn’t too hot; it actually was pretty tasty and I should have gotten it on the wings instead of on the side. Our server checked on us a few times while were eating, but when it came time for the bill, she seemed to have disappeared. We finally noticed that she was working both sides of the restaurant. She must have been the only server working(despite there being two hostesses?) which made our wait for the bill — and the wait to pay the bill — quite long. I won’t fault the server for that though. She was great. In the end, our bill was only $ 22 after tax for two beers and 30 wings(including the 50 cents for the suicide sauce and tax). Not bad at all! The atmosphere was also quite nice. The booth was comfortable and the environment isn’t noisy, so you can actually have a conversation. I would come back again.

I remember the days when I would plan with a group of friends to go to Moxies and have a couple Bellinis and enjoy a nice dinner. Today’s dining experience reminded me that those days are long gone. It is usually the go to place if you want a large group in the area. The pricing is just too high for the quality now and the Bellinis I used to look forward to are now tiny diluted glasses of their former selves. Went here before for a burger a while back this year and even then, they failed on too many levels. If you’re in the area there are way better options for you. Verdict: The good: nice ambiance for larger groups and they are able to handle those large orders. The bad: drinks are either super sweet or just underwhelming. The ugly: the quality has just not kept up from over the years and I would like to see this location changed to something worthy of being in the heart of Davie ;so sad to see a great location wasted on an empty chain.

I wish I could give Moxie’s a better rating as I often like eating at this chain back home but the visits I had here didn’t leave me wanting to go back. It was pretty empty in the back of the restaurant where the seating by the bar was and we had our choice of booths. The staff aren’t the most friendly servers I’ve seen but efficient to get the food and drink to us in a reasonable amount of time. The first time I had the rice bowl with steak. The vegetables were good, but the beef wasn’t. It tasted somewhat slimy and not very appetizing. The other time I ordered the wild mushroom and chicken pizza. I like mushrooms but I found the taste of them overpowered the whole pizza and they put a lot of mushrooms on it. It was disappointing that I didn’t enjoy my meals more and if I would have ordered something else, I may have left happier. There are many food choices around, so next time will stay away from Moxies.

My wife and I hit up this Moxie’s a couple times when we were staying at the Sandman Hotel recently. Moxie’s is never a satisfying restaurant visit because they try too hard to please everyone by serving diverse food. The choices are slim and generic and really end up pleasing no one. They have some varied ethnic dishes but they’re obviously not being prepared by subject matter experts on that type of food. The same person cooking up the ginger teriyaki rice bowl is also flipping burgers. The first time we went I got the Blackened Chicken Burger with cheddar cheese and bacon topped with barbecue sauce with fries on the side. The burger was incredibly bland tasting. It wasn’t horrible but it was pretty forgettable and unremarkable. It was like chicken spam on toast. A few nights later I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. The waitress mistakenly informed me that the enchiladas came with fries on the side. She was wrong but she apologized. I still had to pay for the fries on the side though. So she wasn’t that sorry. The enchiladas tasted watered down and frothy as if they were under a heat lamp for a long time. I suspect that a lot of the business this restaurant receives is from people staying in the Sandman who come here because it’s located in the same building — convenience. The service was alright both nights we ate here. The wait staff and the hotesses are all friendly. Ours orders came out in a reasonable amount of time but the food is bland and blah.

I had an amaZing burger here last night. It was late and I really didn’t want to go looking for another option. The burger was excellent in just the way a good burger should be. It was fresh and juicy. The frys were good too. The drawbacks were first… the price. I spent almost $ 28 Canadian for a burger frys and beer. Second…the beer was kind of flat. Third the place needs a few updates to its décor… I’m not one to complain about restaurant décor, but they need to fix some of the seats. The service whatever at best… at least the burger was amazing. Rip off

The food is excellent. Ordered Ribs and Black Cod with Quinoa. Both dishes were really tasty and definitely the best ribs I have had in Vancouver. Tip: order the BBQ on the side, as the ribs are so flavourable that they don’t need the BBQ sauce. Went there for Happy Hour and had an excellent glass of Syrah for $ 5 — which was excellent value for money.

Well… a couple more years and we gave it another shot. We shouldn’t have. Just my 11 yr old daughter and I, celebrating her New Year haircut and a «fancy» lunch. Hamburger Mary’s would have been a smarter choice or our wonderful French bakery down the street! Where they have smarts, politeness and ITISCLEAN. We sat in a booth… and just as 2 or so years ago… the fake bamboo frawn thingies had DUST all over them. THIS was right in the new year… the backs of the«modern» ugly white/silver chairs, that MAY have looked good when they put them in, were torn and dirty and terrible to look at. Our table THATWEWERESEATEDAT in an all but ONE other table place… had crumbs on it? Really? and Where are the wait staff? Seriously? EVER? Where do they go? It’s a mystery… because when you need something? YOUCANNOTFINDTHEM. I received my luke warm cappuccino… and the waitress walked away so fast after plunking it down… NOSUGARCADDY, nothing, NOTEASPOON. My 11 yr old got up and went to their station at the doorway, got me some sugar and I thought I’d wait for a teaspoon… but it was that long, so I stirred my cap with my KNIFE. When our server came back I nicely told her, «next time you really should see if I need anything with my coffee. My daughter had to find me sugar.» Do you know what she said… this is NOON by the way… a lovely sunny day… the girl looked right at me and said. «Yeah?» YEAH… in a question. As if to say, «Really? Why?» No, «Oh really, oh I’m sorry.» Normal response. My daughter isn’t here so I’m going to be rude now. I felt like… WAIT A MINUTE… I get it… their running gambling in the back, these servers are black jack dealers and they come out now and then to serve the restaurant… sometimes they forget. My bad *rollseyes* Cuz that’s what it felt like… that dumb and THATNOTCARING. Seriously. ew ew ew EW. The shame? is that the Fish Tacos aren’t lame. but then again, when you’re eating in dusty filth, who cares. and really? Next time, we’ll pop into the new Taco place up the street and get an ice-cream at Tutti(a STORE) at leas they’ll have classical music and a SMILE for us… JOE’S would have been BETTER… ugh. They are lucky I waited to write this review, because I was MORE disgusted and angry before. Cost: With tip, because I always tip — EVEN in this circumstance. Hey, a black jack dealer’s gotta eat right? lol $ 50!!! FIFTYDOLLARS. For fish tacos, a cap, a pop and my daughters PLAIN cheeseburger and fries. Yep. *shakes head* NEVERWILLWEEVERSTEPFOOTINHEREAGAIN. They get 5 out of 5 Bleckghs — A shame in our Davie Village(and servers? DON’T WORKHERE if you have any class or self-respect ATALL)

Arrived on a Wednesday night and there had been close to nobody within the restaurant. There wasn’t a host/hostess that was present to greet us, so my companions and I seated ourselves in the separate sort of room by the entrance. Finally, service had arrived and our waiter, Matthew, brought us menus. I settled myself with the lobster and prawn linguine for $ 23. The food was OK, but definitely not worth $ 23. The flavours were just too bland. –1 star for no greeting and seat placement upon arrival –2 for food Service was decent as well as décor +2 This was my first and hopefully, last experience with Moxies.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. Ordered a burger. It was overcooked and over seasoned. The service was so lacking. The waitress truly did not want to be there. You know those cool happy hip beautiful people in the commercials? Yeah not here. That is not happening.

Well, I was going to write a sort of favorable report, but having watched this, I don’t think I can. I can only say, I didn’t get sick. I ate the seared tuna salad… which was relatively tasty, but I was only one of the 15 people in the group that enjoyed their meal. The steak my buddy had, he should have sent back. Medium rare was more like just shy of well done. The roast chicken, was more like a pan fried chicken fillet… which was bland, dry and generally not worth the $ 20 that was charged. The service was fine. Our server steered me in the right direction and overall I enjoyed my meal. In a nutshell, there are plenty of other choices nearby that would be a better choice.

We ended up having to go for a super late dinner on my birthday because my husband’s didn’t get off until 9 p.m. It was freaking cold out and every place we wanted to go to up davie was packed full with a 45 – 1 hour wait. Lame. So Moxies it was. we got sat in the lounge beside the bar right under a speaker where the music was blaring so loud we were squinting and trying so hard to hear each other. We asked that they turn it down and it never went down. Our server was pretty. general? «Hi how are you? What would you like to drink? Are you ready to order? Is everything okay?» we had to ask for share plates for our app, cutlery for my husband TWICE, and glasses of water twice. all in all, meh. We should know better. I didn’t even get a free birthday dessert :(Pfft. and it’s moxies, so i should have damn well gotten one!

Whenever I’m out of town, I like to get down, dirty, and local… with the food scene. I can eat at a million chain restaurants out in the 972 suburbia any day of the week so I try to avoid chain when dining in new cities. Sometimes, it’s not always easy to identify a chain, especially if you’re in a whole different country. It was Friday night in Vancouver; we were hungry, and ready for a nice dinner and drinks. I came across Moxie’s and I guess I missed all the«chain» comments but it didn’t matter, the experience was great and my belly was full. Walking past the front, Moxie’s definitely seemed to be one of the busier places on Davie that night. The bar was packed and the tables full. The menu looked good so we gave it a try. Right from the start, the service was great. Attentive doesn’t even start to cover it. Everyone here from the managers to the servers and bartenders seemed to take pride in their establishment. I started off my night with their«twist» on a Gin & Tonic which was basically a Gin & Tonic mixed with a margarita. Not too bad. Moving onto the food I went with their special which was a turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, dressing, and cranberry sandwich. Or something like that. Top it off with a mountain of fries and I was happy. Sandwich was great, nice flavor and good portions. Service continued to be great all night. Overall, I guess we have to drop our view of «chains» sometimes. It didn’t matter this time around because we had a great meal and top notch service. It suited what we were seeking that night and this Unilocaler was happy.

10 of us got together from my social group for Girls’ Night with drink specials, and we wondered if perhaps other reviewers were just ordering the wrong dishes? I only compared notes with the people at my end of the table, but we enjoyed our steak salad, roasted beet & arugula salad, dry ribs, beef vindaloo and our two veggies were thrilled with their customized items: veggie vindaloo and vegan ginger-teriyaki rice bowl. The beef vindaloo is my personal fave: creamy coconut, warm spices, tender-crisp veggies and succulent bits of beef with savoury spiced-up bread to sop up the sauce. The steak salad was likewise amazing: slices of seared tender steak on crisp fresh greens and a luscious dressing. But the vegan teriyaki rice bowl really looked to be the winner! Crisp, flavourful jewel-toned veggies lightly sauced, atop fluffy rice, with these amazing crunchy beet and carrot strings and toasted sesame seeds. We liked our bellinis — and especially the price at $ 3.99 on Wednesdays — but in our collective opinion, the bellinis at Milestones are better. We felt disappointed that the Wednesday drink specials had changed from last time we went to Moxie’s — used to be beer, wine, and mini 1oz margaritas all on special, so everyone in the group could find a drink they liked on the same night. In spite of the significant change to the drink specials, we plan to return to Moxie’s and will try the West Georgia location next time, as I hear they have a nice view. We’ll try out the new Monday night drink specials, which include the fabulous mini-margaritas(Hawaiian Honey, I’m talking about you!). While I have enjoyed quite a few items on the menu(beet & arugula salad and chicken enchiladas especially), I’ll probably get the beef vindaloo again. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it ;)
