We decided to give MaDangCoul a try after seeing it filled to the brim many an evening on our way to dinner at other spots. We ordered a seafood hotpot dish and chicken and beef hot plate dishes. Seafood hotpot: A very generous serving, very very tasty! Seafood was fresh and the broth, delicious. I’d admit I’m not a huge fan of cooked fish eggs though Chicken and beef hot plates: Thoroughly enjoyable, albeit a little salty IMHO — though my dining companions thought they were fine. If only the serves were a little larger though. Service was good, both the waitresses that attended our table were friendly and more than happy to answer our questions. The top ups on side dishes were also very welcome. Always lovely when a meal out with friends comes together

Came here with my pal last wed for dinner and good thing I introduced him to MDG fot Korean food. I’ve been here multiple times back in college days to crave the actual grill yourself BBQ. They no longer have DIY grill BBQ and had to order cooked pork belly I felt little disappointed about that. Spicy pork(ordered with tofu soup and lettuce wrap) was good and should’ve seasoned bit more. Pork rib was actually good. They were both tender and delicious. Side dishes(banchan) were good too. There were bean sprouts, salad, kimchi and panfried potatoes. Soondoobu(soft tofu soup) was delicious too. There was more tofu than soup though. We enjoyed it. Server was nice and helpful. She got us refill for side dishes and we enjoyed it. Would’ve been better if she refilled more water.

Stopped in on a whim while passing by while visiting Vancouver. Winner! Korean food done right, no pretense, authentic home-style. Everything was absolutely delicious and all served with a smile. :) Reasonable prices. These folks are busy, busy, busy, for good reason, so don’t expect to be catered to. But everything is brought in good time, and if you need something just get their attention and you’ll get it. We loved this place and will return. It is a fairly tiny space, so best not to come with more than 4 people, as that’s the biggest tables they have. There are only about a dozen tables total. If you love authentic Korean food, you will love this place. We had a great hot meal here on a very cold night and left with warm, happy bellies. :)

Went there with two of my friends, the place is really small, maybe 7 – 8 tables in total. With two people on the same side, it’s hard not to elbow each other which is a bit of annoying. Food was okay, seafood pancake is really disappointing, but the soft tofu soup was delicious, highly recommended. I had high expectations because the ratings, but it was not worth the hype.

Just found this little gem of a place yesterday as I was lost downtown Vancouver. I was looking for a coffee shop but found this place. So good! I had the jap chae with veggies/beef and comes with rice also. It was so delicious I think I ate it in record time! Try it if you find yourself in the area. You won’t be disappointed.

The price is very reasonable for the quality and portion you get here. Service is very good. We got soon dubu with mackerel combo. Was so good. This is a nice lunch spot for us. Oh, check out their kimchee! It’s really good.

Came back for dinner with some friends and it didn’t disappoint. We shared the kimchi ramen hotpot with sausage and ham and jap jae and grill pork meat. It was delicious. Perfect for rainy and cold nights. Staff again were super friendly and helpful!!! Definitely one of my fav Korean in Vancouver area!

This place have the audacity to charge full price for food the size of an appetizer. Shameless. The galbi they serve is $ 17 but the serving is a third only of what the other restaurants serve. Also, their galbi is not bbq, its more like stew in sweet sauce. Awful. Also, the thursday jjim special is gone gone gone.

Having lived in Korea for more than five years, I know what Korean food tastes like and what is considered delicious and high quality. This place is really as good as it gets. The first dish I tried here, and have now ordered several times, is the Stone Bowl Bi-Bim-Bap(Dolsot). Everything is just perfectly done with this dish… the flavor, the rice, the amount of each ingredient. I have never had bi-bim-bap this good before in Vancouver, and I would even say it rivals the better places I tried in Korea. One extra special thing I noted too, about this restaurant, is that the kimchi they serve is the kind of kimchi I absolutely love. It is fresher than normal kimchi, which can be pickled for months and months… but this kimchi is absolutely delicious(perhaps it is my preference) and I frequently purchase kimchi from them(about ten dollars for a take home bowl). The nice thing about kimchi, too, is that you do not have to eat it right away. It stays good for months in the fridge. The style of Korean food you are getting here is super traditional, home-style Ma’ and Pop’s restaurant Korean food, but don’t let that fool you. I have always found this style of Korean food to be superior to the more expensive places. Aside from the Bi-Bim-Bap every other dish I’ve tried is super authentic and delicious. Honestly, I wish there were more restaurants like this. If there were, Korean food would quickly become a fad. The service is what I would call«cute.» They are usually very young, perhaps a bit inexperienced waitresses, but they are super friendly, speak good English, and get you your food without too long of a wait. The restaurant is small, but gets quite busy during the dinner rush. But the restaurant is usually freed up outside of dinner hours, and I often find a seat or two during lunch time without a problem. The older couple who owns this restaurant are your typical«cute» old Korean adjossi and adjumma who know what they are doing in the kitchen. They are good people, super friendly, warm. This really is my favorite restaurant at the moment. Korean food, if done correctly, is the best food you will ever taste. This place really exceeded my expectations and truly rivals the best restaurants in Korea.

Good, reliable Korean food. Place is pretty small. We got there at around 5:30 and it was empty but by 6:30 it was packed so get there early or be prepared to wait. Staff is friendly enough if a bit rushed, husband’s bibimbap came out long after the rest of the food so he had to watch us eat while he waited. Banchan were nice, pretty spicy kimchi, sweet potatoes were lovely. They played G-dragon and Big Bang so an extra .5 star.

I like the food here, went with a friend for dinner and the service was fast, although busy. I’ve had more variety in the pickles before at other places and would like to see that here, but otherwise not disappointed.

As a Korean, It’s surprisingly hard to find a good Korean restaurant outside of Korea;) Since I moved to Vancouver last year, I visited this place more than 10 times! I can say this restaurant has decent Korean food with good price. In my opinion, It’s the best Korean restaurant downtown(there are better ones in Coquitlam, but that’s too far:(Every dishes are good except chicken wings(It’s not fried chicken wings, so don’t order it!) If you haven’t tried Korean food, I recommend Bibimbop(hot stone one when it’s cold:), bulgogi, if you can eat spicy food, try soondubu jjigae(spicy soft tofu soup), Dak galbi(spicy chicken), Jeyook bokeum(spicy pork). As many people mentioned, it’s a very small place, so if you go lunch or dinner time you probably have to wait 40 mins to 1 hour. Try to go weird time like between 2 and 5 for late lunch or early dinner;) The service was ok, I could see the waitresses were trying their best, but because they got so busy, the service was slow sometimes. There was a time I didn’t get my food until my friend finished hers:(

This place is one of the best Korean in downtown and my girlfriend and I usually went to this place for lunch or dinner. We usually ordered the Bibimbob, Soondubu Jjgoe(Seafood tofu soup), Bulgogi(Beef Stir fry). Sometime we even ordered the Hae Mul Tang(Seafood hot pot), if we are really hungry and plenty for 2 to 3 people. The taste of the dishes, I believe is more traditional than other Korean Places around there(at lease most costumers are Koreans). I would recommend for a great Korean dinner experience.

Always consistent tasty korean food. I have tried almost the whole menu and come back all the time when I this area. Try the deep fried chicken with sauce on the side. This is hands down the best asian fried chicken I have tasted besides @ramenisshin chicken Karaage in Toronto. This stuff super crunchy, juicy and perfect dish to have. It’s $ 19 bucks but you get a very decent sized portion and korean food is always on the more $$$ side anyways. The hot stone rice bowls or the bibimbap is also killer and ask for them super hot so you get the rice extra crispy. That’s my favorite! Service is decent to good. They keep a really tight staff as the restaurant is small and seats about 25 to 30 people. Great choice and this place is a better deal than the other Korean restaurants downtown.

I didn’t think I was a fan or Korean food until I was taken here, changed my total view on Korean food. Yummy pork dol sot bi bim bop(hot stone bowl) Bul gogi beef. Lots of little dishes come with, including dubious potatoes and kimchee. If you’re on the fence about Korean give it a try, the hot stone bowl was a winner along with all the little dishes.

Haven’t been here in years. It’s not as good as it once was, but still pretty good. I enjoyed the banchan refills(cause it’s free ^^) I love their sweet potatoes and kimchi. I’m not a big fan of the cabbage, bean sprout and water chestnuts though. The portions are smaller than before, but the food is still relatively good. I think if they added eggs to the japchae then it would be perfect: P but that’s just my personal preference. Their mandu lacked a good tasting sauce though. It’d be nice if they gave us more than 1 sauce to pick from. Finally, service was quick and the waitresses were friendly. I’m tempted to give 4 stars, but I think there’s still room for more improvements :)

Came in randomly for lunch because another popular Korean join down the street had way too long of a lineup, and we are soo happy we did! Tiny little place but we were seated fairly quickly. Ordered the Beef Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap which was really tasty and yummy with tons of veggie and meat toppers, but not much rice? Which is usually the opposite for most place. I honestly felt like it could have used double the rice that it had in it, there was only about a thin layer of rice at the bottom of the bowl. But other than that, very tasty! Also had the beef short ribs combo with spicy tofu soup. Came with a small bowl or rice. Beef was tasty, tender and cooked perfectly. Soup was good as well. Prices were fair and service was average as it was quite busy in there. Would definitely come back!

This place seems like is always packed… I walked by a few times and I decided to give it a try. I got the bulgogi dinner and it was good… not as well done and crispy on the edges as I like it, but good. Service was very attentive and they take credit cards. They are about to change their name to MDG… so check that name out…

This place was packed but somehow we got lucky and scored a table within five minutes of walking in. Friendly servers who were quick and efficient. The menu consisted of all my Korean favorites and were all fairly authentic in flavor. A couple things: My husband’s dolsot wasn’t hot enough to brown the rice as much as we’d like. He likes the rice on the sides golden and crispy, almost scorched. But I guess this is a personal preference. Our banchans were brought out after they served us our orders and by this time we had already started eating. I completely forgot about the banchans(perhaps they initially did too) as our dishes didn’t really require it but it was noticeably late when it did arrive as we were probably in mid bite of our 3rd or 4th bite. There seemed to be several Korean restaurants in the West End. Despite a few minor things I think this one is a pretty solid option to satisfy your Korean cravings.
