Great home made dumplings and Shanghai style noodles. Decent price for what you get. Only complaint is the msg in the food

For a tiny restaurant that has no washroom for customers, their prices for some bigger dishes are quite steep.(How did they get the building permit or health permit without a washroom or a sink for handwashing?) Now let’s talk about the food. Besides all other dishes I ordered, I focused on their XLB. Freshly made on site but again, like many other XLB places, they lacked of richness and sweetness in both the soup and the meat. However, skin was very thin and had a great elasticity. I can see their restaurant is very popular. Their customers were mostly Cantonese, Caucasians, and Koreans at the time I was dining. For some«FOB»(or half«FOB») like myself, their dishes are not authentic Beijing or Shanghainese enough(still Cantonese :))

We arrived at 11:10 am on a Sat morning and were seated at their last available table. Talk about busy. There was this mini heat wave outside and they had their A/C on, but halfway through our lunch the fuse jumped. Seconds later the lights were back on but not the A/C, so it was getting stuffy in a jiffy. Maybe it’s time to update the electricals? As usual their food was decent, service a bit rushed. Definitely the best xiao lung bao… on Main. Will be back for sure, just NOT on a hot day.

Was thinking of Xiao long bao… but got the beef noodles, spicy pork ear and the spicy wontons, instead… was a tad busy when I arrived at like 130ish… waited a bit…(didn’t really matter) ordered… while eating my beef noodles I noticed it had no flavour what so ever… but it was good… the pork ear was ok and the spicy wontons also didn’t really taste like anything… BUT spicy… guess since they were close to closing time and the cook didn’t really care… don’t think I’ll be back… Kinda disappointing hence i was craving beef noodle too… such a shame!

I echo other reviewers: best XLB in the Vancouver area. Quite delicious and they make them in full view of the restaurant. Long’s serves both Shanghainese and Northern Chinese fare. The staff are very friendly. They are Shanghainese but speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese and some English. I’ve even heard them alternate between Northern accented and Southern or Taiwanese accented Mandarin depending on the customer they’re speaking with. The cucumber salad was delicious — somehow they really brought out the cucumber flavor. Shanghai Cai Fan(clay pot rice) was very decent. Shanghai-style wontons are pretty good. Northern Chinese dishes(beef roll, pan fried beef bun) are not spectacular but decent. Overall a fantastic hole in the wall for delicious authentic Shanghainese(especially XLB) and Northern Chinese. Priced a *bit* high for a hole in the wall, but they can get away with it because you’re paying for quality food.

Xiao long bao was very good(shanghai soup dumpling) — almost rivals the famous Ding Tai Fong from Taiwan. The drunken chicken was surprisingly large portion. Don’t be deceived by its tiny pot! It’s very succulent and juicy.

We went for the famous Xiao Long Bao. My friend(who is Chinese) took me and my other friend there and it was everything I had hoped and dreamed of. We also got the drunken chicken and a delicious beef noodle(?). It was so delicious. It’s been a week and I still think about those dumplings.

Really poor service and their xiao long boa was okay. Said they didn’t take reservations and only do walk ins but when we came they said we can have a table and only eat for half and hour because the table had a reservation. That being said the Vietnamese place next door is great so you can always go there :)

Not too sure what the hype was around this restaurant. I probably didn’t pick the right foods. We got XLB, the fried rice crispies with egg yolk and I got the snow cabbage with rice cakes. Everything was pretty underwhelming to be honest… I ordered the wrong noodle so I’m probably being a Debbie downer right now. The XLBs were pretty tasty. The wrap was thinking which was much appreciated and none of them broke! We ordered the crispies to try but not sure what you’re supposed to eat it with??? I imagine it would be amazing with congee or mixed in with some noodles??? HALPPP! Rice cakes we got weren’t expected but I still liked the pickled cabbages we had(is it pickled? I’m not even sure LOL) Everything was kinda pricey for what it really was. I hope to come back and try something else and hopefully give this place a better review!

A little over rated. Hot and sour soups was just ok. Steamed dumplings were good. Shanghai thick noodles were decent. Fried rice was good.

Small hole in the wall Shanghainese restaurant with fast service and well-priced, delicious menu items. I had lunch there today and enjoyed the tan tan noodles with meat sauce, xiao long bao(so soupy and yummy!), beef rolls, and wine chicken. Everything came quickly and my tea was refilled many times. The bill came to $ 30 before tips. I will definitely be back – it’s good to know that I don’t have to go all the way to Richmond anymore to satisfy any cravings for Shanghainese food,(and Shanghai River isn’t as good as it used to be). Note that Long’s accepts cash only.

This is our favourite Shanghai restaurant in Vancouver. If you’re looking for the best XLB, look no further. We always get two orders because they are that good(tip: order the second one halfway through your meal so they are hot, steamy and fresh). We also love their jellyfish with lo bok. Their hot and sour soup is quite delicious and good portion size. Their Tan Tan Noodles with meat sauce is decent, but very heavy and rich(due to its peanut sauce). Their chow mein was underwhelming, would not order that again. When we are craving XLB, this is definitely our go to place, despite the long line ups. Price is decent for really food, expect to pay about $ 26 for 3 dishes. Service is fine.

Other than the crowds, squishy seating and rushed eating, i love this shanghainese restaurant(pretty sure its my favourite!). Their menu is quite small but everything that I have tried has been good. Must order the beef roll/pancakes which are a bit different from taiwanese ones with less meat and a flatter pancake. Regardless, it tastes amazing perfectly complemented with hoisin sauce. Next, their wine chicken is extremely tender and their XLB are also filled with soup with a thin skin and are very flavourful. Spicy wontons are not so spicy and more tangy but delicious! Their spicy beef noodles were not spicy but good noodles(a bit soft) and delicious beef shank slices. Ive also had their pot stickers that are personally not my favourite but good and the rice and veggies(not sure what its called) was a little oily. Finally, the pork meatballs have a yolk inside them and a bit too fatty for my taste. The wine fish slices is also really strong in wine flavour but oh, so good. FINALLY, the wuxi spare ribs are my dad’s FAVOURITE with a great sauce, nice pieces of side ribs and although a bit pricy, worth it. That was a long review but it is delicious here… just plain delicious.

dan dan noodle with meat sauce is undeniably delicious. combination of my 2 favorite things — dan dan noodle and jah jan noodle. it’s positively heavenly. the xlb is good also — doesn’t crumble like it does at dinesty and is packed with a healthy dose of soup. skin is thin but just enough to hold up to the soup. you can see them being handmade with love one by one in the front of the tiny shop. i took a ridiculously expensive cab ride to and fro one of the airport hotels to come here. and i dont regret it one bit. the fried rice to go was less flavorful than i wouldve liked. dine in here. eat the noodles and the xlb. go home happy. cash only.

I’ve been a regular here for a couple years now, and I guess have been selfish to post a review. But now this place is always busy and so everybody already knows about it. I’ve tried a bunch of xiao long bao places around town, and always return to this one. The skin is perfectly thin, while housing plentiful soup inside. I understand that for some people the size is probably too large. Often when you’re there you can see somebody behind the counter wrapping the XLB. The beef roll here is also very tasty, and depending on the size of your group you can call ahead to order their chicken wonton soup pot. It’s a huge pot of wontons and stewed chicken(I think there’s half a chicken in it). Seating is very limited in this small restaurant, so your best bet these days is to call ahead and make reservations. They have 2 large tables for big groups, and then the rest of tables are for 2 or 4.

The name«Longs» probably refers to the long line-ups you may experience waiting to get into this eatery. Call ahead, and make reservations if you plan to go to Long’s. People have always told me that this place makes one of the best Pork Dumplings around. Well, I can confirm that this is pretty accurate. The dumplings are made in-house. You can even see the chefs prepare them behind the counter, carefully hand-crafting each one to perfection. When you put one in your mouth, their thin shells rupture, releasing their sweet juices. It’s like a taste explosion in your mouth. I also sampled their Spicy Beef Noodle soup, but it was anything but spicy. I rarely leave a drop of soup in the bowl, but I left 2⁄3 of it here. There simply wasn’t enough taste to justify emptying the bowl. In my opinion, Wang’s on Granville still has the most flavorful spicy beef soup that I’ve tried so far. If you know of a better place than Wang’s, please tell me. Their other offerings are typical Chinese, meaning they are on par with every other restaurant in town. I tried the chicken chow mein; the noodles were crispy and the sauce was creamy. On other occasions, I’ve had their beef wrap as well, which makes a good appetizer. But, if you come to Long’s, its probably for the pork dumplings. You won’t be disappointed, even if you have a LONG wait.

I was here last week just for Tantan noodle and really enjoyed it. Service was fast. My noodle was soft and sauce was rich and nutty. Yum. Only thing I didn’t like was the tiny washroom they have.

Delicious Xiao Long baos!!! The owner was wrapping the dumplings by the counter so customers can tell they were made fresh. We also ordered their mini shrimp pork dumplings as well and the broth was very tasty. Love that they use seaweed soup base for the dumplings. Last we shared the Tan-Tan noodles with meat sauce! It was so good! Great mix of peanut sauce with the minced pork meat! I will come back just to eat this noodle again.

Essen war top. Einfach klasse.

If you want authentic Shanghai food, this is it! The restaurant may look old and ghetto run-down and needs some major reno’s, but their food over-rides all these negatives. Price range is reasonable and quality of food is very good. They have some speciality dishes that other places don’t have. This place can get pretty busy at times so it may be wise to book ahead of time. Plenty of street parking around restaurant available.

Honestly, I am always surprised by how friendly they are. I’ve eaten at a lot of Shanghainese(is that the term?) restaurants and the service is always mediocre at best, but not here. They’re always really attentive, responsive and friendly. They check on our tea before we even have to move the lid. They’re always quick to take away plates/dishes that are empty. The food comes quickly and it’s hot, so it’s not sitting around in the kitchen and it’s not lukewarm. — The salted egg rice crisp was amazing. I smelled it as she brought it to a table near us and I had to try it. I’ve had rice crisp before and found it bland so I was hoping the salted egg yolk would help give it flavor, and it sure did! I am calling this dish«rice crispies» and it’s so effing good. It’s salty, crispy, crunchy and yummy. I’m going to order this every time from now on and hoping no one else likes it so I can avoid sharing! — The XLB are good. I can say they’re the best I’ve had in Vancouver, but it’s not the best around because Richmond wins on that front. They’re juicy but the actual flavor isn’t as amazing as Richmond’s. — The wine chicken was good but I“ve never found it outstanding. Other people I know swear by it though. — The pea shoots aren’t in season anymore so it was a little bit tough. I’d suggest getting a different vegetable now that summer’s here. — The snow cabbage pork rice cakes were tasty but the rice cakes themselves were a little undercooked and tough. — The hot and sour soup was average. I had the fish and veggie thick soup before and it was SOOOOOO good so I’ll get that next time I come.
