Been there twice at this location. Tried Special Fried Rice at first visit. Liked it a lot. Tried Special Wonton soup with BBQ pork at the second visit. Liked it a lot. Took Special Fried Rice to go when leaving. At home, when I checked, was pretty sure it was recycled Fried Rice, gross stuff you get at Chinese all-u-can-eat buffet. Don’t think I will visit this place again.

I went to their grocery area. Everything looks fine. I got exactly what I wanted. They could use better lighting though.

Usually when working in Chinatown I’ll stop here for a quick lunch and am always satisfied with what I order. The location is in Chinatown so there is some hustle and bustle which is to be expected and there’s street and lot parking which is convenient. Service is always fast and efficient with tea and water fills being quick once you run out an getting the bill is just as fast. Lunch special of sweet and sour fish with rice and a bowl of wun tun soup is fabulous. Six pieces of wun tun with cabbage and broth is comforting on a cold day. The fish was great with a small bowl of rice as my only real complaint was too much onions in the dish. Overall it’s always a consistent experience from the service to the food and that’s why I’ve been coming here since i was 8 years old

Been coming here since the 70’s and the food has been relatively consistent but notice differences in their broth and some other dishes like the spicy pork and noodles. Prices are ok. Happy to keep coming back for the pot stickers and brisket

Always enjoy my meal here. It’s not the prettiest of places, but it’s hardly a dive… Food is good and fast… And selection is good. I always make a point of coming here at least once when I’m in Vancouver.

Came in for a quick lunch the other day and the restaurant wasn’t very busy. Maybe it’s because I had an early lunch. I was seated promptly and tea was served to me. I ordered the gai lan with oyster sauce and a mixed meat congee. The veggies were very fresh. No complaints but I mean, it’s just blanched with oyster sauce. The congee was a good size but I found it lacking in flavour. It was a good dining experience.

The food is definitely good but I can’t recommend it without a disclaimer. This restaurant has some of the worst service I’ve experienced. Ever! The second disclaimer is that I am not a high-maintenance customer. I truly get that working in the food industry is tough! I went here years ago and had terrible service. I thought I’d try it again just to be sure the first time wasn’t an «off» day. I received the same poor treatment both times. With the exception of maybe one employee, most of the wait staff are extremely unfriendly. Our server had a scowl on her face the whole time and had the body language of a very angry person. I try to give servers the benefit of the doubt and not take it personally… maybe she was just stressed out. We(party of 4) were seated fairly quickly but had to wait a long time before ordering. I had a couple of questions about the food but was met with a complete lack of willingness on the part of the server to be helpful. We received our food 45 minutes later. The hot tea was served(in plastic cups) while we were waiting but I also asked for glasses of cold water, as it was a hot day. I don’t know if my asking for water was a faux pas or what, but first she only brought 2 waters for 4 of us. Then, when I couldn’t get our server to help us, I asked another server for 2 more waters and was ignored. I asked a 3rd employee that came by to refill the tea cups for some water and he only brought one more cup of water… this was finally after our food came. I also noticed that there were many people that came in after us and were served, ate, paid, and left before we got our food. I don’t know what to make of that. Maybe they ordered ahead? We also ordered rice and never got it with our meal at all, but were charged for it. If you are the kind of person that doesn’t mind waiting a long time to eat in a chaotic, poorly staffed restaurant, with a heaping side of attitude, go for it… it is good! But I don’t think I’ll be coming back for a third time. P. S. The washrooms are not for the faint of heart!

Food is good but service is very slow and servers are inattentive. Will never recommend to anyone visiting. The servers do not know how to greet with a smile, they mostly look like you’re stepping on their dog’s tail. I ordered one dish but I had to wait 40 minutes and I finally walked out after noticing all of the people that came in behind me were being served. Most were done and out of there, and now I’m still starving and at this point angry for having to wait for a meal I never got. Lousy atmosphere and bad service.

Amazing pot stickers! Other than that the fried rice, vegetables, crispy noodles and tea were average. The place reminded me of a cafeteria with friendly staff.

Try out the won ton noddles soup, very crunchy egg noddles, the won ton are awesome with shrimp meat inside very tenders, the soup is good and clear, very simple but taste good on the cold day.

One of those places I have been coming to for as long as I can remember. A couple plates of fried potstickers and a bowl of noodle soup was one of my go to meals to help out from the night before. Still drop by when I can and it hasn’t changed.

Everything we ordered was as expected. We enjoyed our waitress saying«only for you two, too much food», our reply was«sounds exactly what we want and bring the left overs». We ordered the Hong Kong congee, BBQ meat duo of duck and pork, crispy tofu, shrimp dumplings and beef+cilantro soup, and greens beans and mushrooms. Everything was delicious, cheap 40ish $, we will return.

I frequently have food delivered from here to the office, and they are not only friendly on the phone and in person, but prompt and efficient. The food is not bad as well. Highly recommended.

Decent food at a decent price. Service was excellent. We enjoyed the beef in black bean sauce and the Singapore noodle bowl. But what I really want to know is what’s «leather jacket fish»?

As a young one, my family and I would drive the six hours every year to visit Vancouver B.C.‘s Chinatown. It’s always bigger than Portland’s and more authentic with cute old Chinese ladies at every turn. Hon’s has been a staple of that childhood and I remember always coming here for their wonton noodle soup. Now that I’ve grown up, I’ve recently had the pleasure of re-visiting my favorite Chinese restaurant in B.C. I was greeted upon arrival and everything looked the same. It has that dingy, yet still charming vibe. It’s a weird description, but pretty true. I like that they don’t serve you water, but nice hot tea that warms you up after a chilly walk outside. They’ve definitely upgraded as they now take orders on an iPod touch. I think that’s so great that they’re moving with today’s technology. I of course ordered the wonton noodle soup and it was simply perfect. The wait time was not long whatsoever and I was elated to see an old friend(the noodle soup). The price hasn’t changed and is still only $ 5! Amazing deal for the quantity and quality! I can’t recommend this dish and restaurant enough.

Sweet baby Jesus. That pork. Potstickers, sweet and sour, black bean spicey chicken and the wun-ton were amazing. They messed up my beef and veg on fried rice and put it on fat noodles instead but turns out it was a great discovery. This location started out rough… but now… now I need a cigarette. Good job keefer but next time give me rice.

Went there with 3 friends after bailing at Bao Bei’s(too pricy & couldn’t accommodate a friend’s allergy.). The place is distinctly NOT about the décor. The neighborhood is seedy, and has virtually no street life after 5 p.m. The interior can only be compared to the NYC places that do not cater to tourists-1950’s diner décor not changed since the 50’s. The food was the best I’ve had since NYC’s Chinatown, and the service was pretty decent. We had tripe w/dry noodle, sticky rice, veggies w/black bean, some pork buns, dumplings etc. Total for 4 stuffed people-$ 60.

During our short Vancouver trip, i was craving a nice hot bowl of wonton soup and decided to give Hon’s a try. We went on a Thursday night around 5:30 and the place was pretty empty. I got exactly what I expected as far as service, not really friendly, but efficient. We ordered shrimp wonton soup, a fish fillet stir fried with veggies, and some dumplings. We just wanted a small meal for the three of us before going to the hockey game. Everything was A-OK, not great, not terrible. Just a’ight. The price was decent, service was ok, so yeah, overall, an «A-OK» experience.

I haven’t come here to eat in a very long time, but I will come down to Hon’s to actually shop. It’s kinda sad seeing the once all mighty place that is practically a former shell of itself in terms of eating joints, but they still make some pretty good products that you could buy in the fridge section at a local T&T, but why not just come and buy from the source. What am I talking about, I come here to buy their rice rolls, rice noodles, the chili oil they use in the restaurants. They have quite a bit of things when you enter their store on the left side. What I saw the last time was here was roasted meats, fish balls, meat balls, frozen pots, other sauces, full on uncut sheets of rice wrap, used to make flat rice noodles, and also the skin for the steamed rice rolls you see in dim sum joints which they sell fresh for under $ 1 a pound. The prices are by weight here, and even though this place is showing it’s age, I come down to buy noodles here cause it is fresher than going to buy the packaged stuff from the big box grocery stores that also sell their goods. I don’t know when I will come back to sit and eat, but I know I will definitely come back to shop for noodles here. If you have seen any of their products in stores, just know you will find it here, maybe without the label that is standard on all their packages, but what you also won’t take home, in terms of the noodles, is the styrofoam tray that is also served with this at the grocery stores. The place kind of runs like a mom and pop shop, and reminds me of shopping at Hon’s during my childhood.

Itself isn’t a too bad of a quickie but compared to Robson, this is a pretty drudgy place; esp. the washrooms — typical. Probably the only thing that keeps them afloat is their potstickers, as they even sell them frozen too. Always liked their pink vinegar sauce. But they really cheap out on the beef brisket Soup: just 3 pieces! and noodles that take forever to separate lol, need a pair of scissors ready. And after eating their E-fu or Yee Mein, which was decent w/the mushrooms & onions, this made me really thirsty — sign of too much MSG. Not surprising. Won’t be back for a long, long time, it’s my 1st time here in at least 7 yrs in Chinatown lol. But nice that it’s connected to the parking lot, though last time I checked, that was also a dungeon too. Service, yes. friendly, not a chance.
