You can get some specials for cheap and the suahi is great. My only problem was the price of the combo: almost $ 10 for the same sushi I could’ve got for 5, plus two extras pieces with shrimp and a misso soup. Other than that, it’s a great place with nice prices.

The sushi is edible but for the price i would advise you to go somewhere else. Not fresh. The rice was gross and fell apart from the rolls. Go grab some tacos down the road and save your money! This is super overpriced!

This is a basic lunch sushi joint. It’s not a standout in any way, and the selection is limited, but it holds its own among Vancouver’s other hundreds of sushi restaurants. It’s convenient, affordable, and fast, and the food is decent.

Quick in and out for lunch; I grabbed a BC roll with three pieces of nigiri, and sunomono. The food was pretty just okay but it was quite cheep, ~11.00 so not bad.

I was pretty hungry today and my small meal at nester’s wasn’t enough so I decided to pop by Hiro to grab their special: $ 4.99 for 10pc california roll + miso soup. The california rolls were actually above average and the miso soup was just okay. I wouldn’t call this exactly healthy, but I guess eating this is better than spending the five bucks at mcdonalds!

This review is based on having ordered the beef yakisoba, chicken teriyaki bowl and numerous rolls both from the ready-to-eat section and prepared fresh at the time of order. I think this place is great. Service is very friendly and fast, the flavouring is good, not bland like some people have said(for the bowls). The rolls are fresh and the raw fish tastes fresh. The décor is lovely and the place is very clean, not something I can say for a lot of Vancouver’s sushi restaurants. I’ve been here about 5 times and will continue to come back, so it looks like the owners are paying attention to the reviews and making improvements. If the owners are reading this, please make the white(non-dyed) ginger available with the rolls — I don’t like the pink kind. Thanks!

Waited to try this place a few times before saying anything. Clearly, this establishment does not know what Japanese cuisine is. It’s like they make up dishes for their specials based on what looks nice, not what tastes match. Curry was VERY dry and salty. Sashimi was frozen and giant.(typically sashimi should be a specific size, not the gargantuan pieces that westerners think is good. Just like the cut & size of a french frie, the size & cut of sashimi changes the texture and flavour). I think its a waste of money and hope the owners read these reviews.

I’m here all the time. They have meals ready to go when you line up. It’s one of the best lunches you could ask for if you’re tight on time. I’m a very busy guy during the day so it’s an amazing find for me. To best experience this place, get it to-go for lunch. I wouldn’t suggest anything else.

I happened upon this place as I was seeking lunch in the city. I ordered the 8 piece tuna sashimi 9 $ and a wonton ramen 9 $. Everything in the store is pre-made so they merely served the sashimi on a plate and poured hot soup over ramen and wonton to create the ramen that was flavourless.

I went here once and was excited about the fact that the sushi was pretty good. Today I went back, deciding that this would be a new regular spot for me… it was 7pm, an hour before their closing time, and there were no chairs outside, they were leaning on the wall by the fridges. I wanted to sit outside so asked if I could take one of the tables and chairs out to be told ‘oh sorry we’ve tidied up for the night so you can’t, you can go and sit on the wall over there’ I promptly left speechless, won’t be going back there ever, customer service counts for a lot… and this place has none!

I had a Groupon Now that I used for lunch. After reading all the negative reviews about the noodles, I made sure to stay away from that and got sushi. The entire meal is slightly forgettable(but it was months ago), forgettable in that the lunch specials weren’t all that unique — just the standard California rolls and nigri. But the food was fresh and the woman behind the counter was nice. I wasn’t familiar with Gastown back then so I had trouble finding this place as it was a bit tucked away from the main streets.

I love Japanese food. I really do. I bloody well hate bad sushi though, and that’s what this place purveys. Yes, I said purveys. They’re hot dishes aren’t terrible but they’re clearly made in advance and kept warm. The sushi on the other hand is made first thing and then sits in a cooler all day. COuple that with the clearly fake crab in the california roll and you get some disgusting food. I really wish it was better, but it isn’t. Avoid.

I’ve bought both the pre-made sushi and bento box combos to go and enjoyed everything. This sushi is above the quality level of any other takeout style sushi restaurant I’ve been to in a very long time. If you want ramen, go to a ramen restaurant. There are plenty in Vancouver. Go here for sushi and sashimi and you won’t be disappointed.

Sometimes when one reviews, it’s easy(and common) to make your judgements on 1 dish. This does bring some variation, which is why the reviews here are all over the map. If you look at the other reviews, you’ll see a pattern. This place is located away from the street(but still on the exterior of the building), in the Woodwards plaza, by the old historic red«W» on display. Parking is available on the street(rip-off), or in the parkade across the street(not sure of the price but probably also a rip-off). When we first walked in, we were impressed by the décor. Thought it would be a somewhat trendy place. There’s a small rack filled with take-out sushi and beverages. The walls were covered with lots of wood panelling. The staff lady was really friendly too. I had a shoyu ramen, and a piece of salmon nigiri sushi. The 1st thing I tried was the sushi. This is easily some of the finest sushi I’ve had in town. it was fresh, and the piece wasn’t farmed. The chef was generous on the fish. My buddy Vincent N. had a(tuna) toro and he also agreed his was delicious. I was getting excited for this place. Then our ramen came. This had to be some of the WORST ramen I have ever eaten in Vancouver. I had no idea it was possible to mess up the dish this badly. The noodles were mushy, the seaweed was soggy, and worst of all, the soup was SUPER bland. They must’ve skimped out on something. The only redeeming ingredient was the pork, which was half-decent. I asked Vincent N. about his ramen(he had a miso) and his one-word response explained it all: «Terrible». I tried some of his soup and it was also super bland. Tasted like clay mixed with water with a tiny bit of salt mixed in. I was torn between giving this place 4 stars for the sushi, and coveted 1 star for the ramen. Hence the 2 stars. I was actually tempted to ask for my money back for the ramen. Final verdict? Excellent sushi, but do NOT eat the ramen here. Side note: notice the 1 good review here(Ema J.) doesn’t mention the ramen at all.

The sushi here is all pre-made, although everything that I’ve tried tastes perfectly okay. I’ve been here three times. You’d expect that, at a place where you simply grab your pre-packed roll and pay, you’d be able to get in and out really quick. Unfortunately, every time I’ve been here, it seems like the staff are really«out of it». Things that should take one minute take ten. For instance, getting a simple cup of tea required me to ask several times… by the time I got my tea, I was done eating. Since there was barely anyone else in the restaurant, and since the tea carafe was sitting right behind the counter, I’m not sure why there was a delay. The donburi is a bit better than the sushi, but what I though would be «quick takeout» turned into a 20 minute wait, even though there were only three people ahead of me. It just doesn’t make sense.

I work one block over and was excited to see the«coming soon» signs when I would walk to Nester’s or London Drugs. I became even more excited when they opened up and saw that they offered ramen on their menu! I am a ramen fanatic and regularly make the trip to Robson for my ramen fix. It would have been great if I didn’t have to go all the way there… Alas, it was not to be! The chicken ramen was so bad and flavourless it was literally like slurping boiled water with a bit of teriyaki sauce mixed in. It was soooooo bad that I almost wished I’d just bought a pack of 99-cent Sapporo Ichiban and had that instead. I basically ate the chicken(also flavourless) and the tiny amount of veggies I could find in the bowl and left 95% of my ramen untouched. Thankfully I also bought some negitoro, which was actually decent. I didn’t get the chance to compare pricing with other sushi places around this area(Momo, Zero One, etc.). My only gripe is that they are all in take-out containers, which is a waste if you’re dining in. I get that it’s faster that way, but I just hate all the garbage that’s generated unnecessarily. I would give this place a 3 for the sushi, a whopping ZERO for the ramen, which gives me a 1.5 average score, plus 0.5 for the clean and nice place(which you can’t eat… sigh). IMO there are other sushi places around that can deliver the same quality sushi PLUS other items that it’s not worth going back to this place.

I am so happy this place opened up! This is the best sushi in the area. Consistent quality, and good prices. The salmon is super fresh and the best I’ve had in a long time. Yum! I am not a noodle fan so I can’t comment on their ramen and other noodle dishes but here is a breakdown. 1. Salmon nigiri– rocks– 5 stars 2. Miso soup — average — 3 stars 3. Rolls — great — 4 stars — not the best I’ve had but better than anything else in the area(except maybe guu but that’s different). Get them fresh made. 4. Chicken teriyaki — great 4 stars. Good quality chicken, good portion in the bento box, average sauce. I will be back! PS. I always do take out here but it looks nice and modern inside. For the takeout they have good quality chopsticks +++ yay for that, and good quality boxes +++

This place just opened up and my hubby and I live in the Woodward’s building and thought we would grab a quick dinner tonight. We both ordered the Beef Yakisoba and all I can say is that it was«OK». It wasn’t made fresh, you could tell by the noodles. It was obvious that they had reheated them. The beef tasted pretty good and there was a decent amount of it but I wished there were more veggies. A couple of broccoli and a few chunks of carrots. Overall it was dry but edible. Disappointing. They have a cooler with pre-made sushi for grab and go service or you can have them make your sushi fresh. The sushi looks like it may be alright. I may go back to give the sushi a try. I hope that they are just going through the usual opening growing pains and this place improves. It sure would be nice to have a good sushi place right at my doorstep.

I dropped by the other day and grabbed a couple sushi rolls to go. Sushi was pre-made so service was quick. Quality was ok. but I’ve had better sushi for cheaper. I didn’t like how they gave me a GIANT paper bag for my takeout even after I told them that I was just crossing the courtyard to SFU. I came back again several times because of convenience and have not been impressed. The hot foods like the soba noodles and the rice bowls are just disappointing. I’ve had cold rice from them more than once. But aside from the food I’ve noticed that the staff seems really inexperienced when it comes to costumer service. On one occasion I was in the store and another guy asked quietly if they could make him a fresh roll because the one in the fridge had a hair in it. And if finding hair in the food isn’t bad enough the staff refused to make him a new roll insisting that there was no hair in the to go box. Now I don’t care if the costumer was crazy and seeing things or if there actually was hair in the food. When you’re asked to make a new roll because of hair, you do it. And you do it quietly so the entire store doesn’t start listening in on your conversation. Needless to say, I haven’t been back to Hiro after this instance. I’d rather walk the extra couple blocks to another place.

Just came from lunch there — I was super mega excited for this joint to open as it’s close to my work, but man, what a disappointment. I had the Veggie Soba — uninspired noodles with super sweet teriyaki sauce, 4 pieces of broccoli and carrots that tasted like raw onions. My lunch mate had a chicken ramen which was bland and reminiscent of dishwater. Neither of us finished our meals — and we were miffed that they wanted to charge us $ 1.25 for tea! Sushi ZeroOne is just up the street and is fantastic, skip this place.
