Hole-in-the-wall, Malaysian/Singaporean, Cash Only, Cheap Your to go Malaysian/Singaporean place that is meant for«to-go». Also, a great hole in the wall! After coming back from Malaysia and Singapore, it does the hawkers’ places great justice. First, this place is tiny! Unless you are lucky to find a spot by the window or come outside of peak hours, you have better bets taking this home. But if you are one of the few lucky ones who snag a seat, do order a good variety. Great portion size and immense flavor! I will warn you that many things on the menu is quite spicy. Family owned and staff are very sweet. Do know they are swamped 100% of peak hours so don’t take offence when they are not as attentive then. Second, here are a few items to try: steaming Laksa(great for a cold day), Char kway teow, gato gato, Mee Goreng. Fritters! They are sold next to the cashier, buy a few to snack on while you wait! Third, don’t come during rush hours.

Lived in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for many years, and I’ve ALWAYS been sorely disappointed with Canadian and American attempts at reproducing those cuisines… Until this place! The laksa and roti paratha are so perfect that I literally cannot believe I am not dreaming! 11⁄10 stars! Thank you for rekindling the light of my childhood!

If hole-in-a-wall kind of place and cheap eats is what you are after; this place is it. I came from Flushing, NY and have been to a lot of Asian countries — so I am exposed to these kinds of cuisine. We had the Laksa, Roti. and Nasi Goreng. The laksa and the nasi goreng looks right and the taste is there; but it needs more oooph. They must have adjusted the taste to fit american taste. It is very hard to f up roti; the sauce that came with it needs more spiciness tho. Will definitely come back to this place as there is no one better in the area.

I’ve only been here once and am of two minds. I’d award it 2.5 stars, based on my first impressions, but since Unilocal uses whole-value ratings, Hawkers gets a 3 from me for now. The three is, in part, to be fair, since I didn’t try some of the other dishes such as the laksa. The restaurant is small with limited seating. It’s a cash-only place where the menu is posted on the wall, you have to get the napkins and cutlery yourself, and the takeout container will set you back a quarter each. Not the kind of place to impress your date. We ordered roti, mee goreng(noodles), and nasi goreng(rice). The roti was good. However, neither of the gorengs were spicy despite ordering them as such. I also thought the rice was oddly fluffy. Overall flavor was meh. The gorengs were in the $ 7 range, so from a quality-over-quantity perspective, the dishes fared well, though I wouldn’t quantify them as being huge. Might hit the spot for those aiming for a quick lunch. If I ever go back, I’d try out the laksa.

FML bunch of us ate the Hainan Chicken this past Friday and now we all have food poisoning… Been to this place a few times in the past, but not going here anymore. Don’t rush the orders when it is busy and make sure the food is fully cooked!

I love love love Malaysian/Singaporean food especially Laksa. I was a bit disappointed because the laksa was a bit to sweet for my liking. When asked for some citrus(lemon or lime), they said they didn’t have any… which sucks! Laksa is so much better with lime! I also hat their vegetable fritters… it was good! What I like about this place was that it was very affordable. I spent less than 15 for the two, and it was good, not great, but good. I’ll definitely come back though :)

This is what you call a mom and pop restaurant. Long story short, flavors are real authentic. Crowded and small place. Prices are good. Great location. Had hainan chicken rice, Singapore Laksa and Mee Goreng. All good. Would come back and try othe fried rice noodle among other dishes, the fried rice noodle.

Place is small. Had the laksa — so so(it’s not the penang assam laksa, I believe it’s the KL type). The Vege Curry was excellent.

Cheap and easy lunch on the go. Arriving at the restaurant, ordering and finding a seat made wine feel for a moment that I was back in Asia. We had the laksa(prawn and curry noodle soup) and the cha Kwak deow(fried rice noodles). Cha Kwak Deow had enough heart from the wok but the chicken was a little bit dry. The laksa was nice but lacked the richness and depth of flavour compared to traditional laksa however it was still very tasty. And for the price I have no complaints there.

I came back here just for Hainanese Chicken Rice, but thought of trying something new so I got Prawn Noodle($ 7.50). Like other noodle dishes here the portion was big, had plentiful of toppings like fish cake, prawn, pork slices and some veggies. It also had something crispy bits on top. It was flavorful, tasty and delicious. However it’s kind of spicy and has little bit of jalapeño peppers in it. This dish didn’t catch my attention at first and it was better than I thought. On my next visit I’m not sure whether to try Mee Siam or just get usual Laksa or Hainanese Chicken Rice.

Food is good! Price is very affordable! Place is small. Service is pretty much self serve. Ignorance is a bliss, the next time you eat at Hawkers, if The staff brings you the food or anyone else’s, their thumb is usually inside the plate or bowl right by the food you are about to eat. Yes, they wear rubber gloves however I don’t ever see them change it or wash it even though the grab a dirty ass table cloth to wipe the table or when the pick up dirty dishes off the table or from the dish pan. I just hope they have the decency to change the gloves when the throw out the garbage or clean the washroom! That is why I said, IGNORANCEIS A BLISS! Because of the above observation of the food runner regarding their unsanitary rubber gloves, I deducted only 1 star from them which is extremely generous of me.

This is where to get the real authentic Singaporean food(- spiciness). I lived in Singapore for over 5+ years so I can guarantee that this is the real Singaporean food. I came here with my friends and shared mee goreng, lamb curry, laksa, roti, chicken curry and chicken rice… the food is really good. Great portion, great food, cheap(in Vancouver standard) and very authentic. My favorite is Laksa. The laksa is really close to the best laksa I had in Singapore. It was so good to the extent that I even finished drinking the soup… If it was spicier, it will be even more authentic but I think most people including me will not be able to tolerate the Singaporean spice level…

It’s rare to find hole in the walls like this place. Cash only and you order at the counter before sitting down. The food is authentically Singaporean. How do I know that? I don’t know. But it sounded good. I had ordered the chicken curry dish and some of those wonderful veggie fritters. They were so good. I’ll be back to try other items.

A taste of Singapore in Vancouver. You can find many Singaporean dishes here and at very reasonable prices. The food falls a little short of how the authentic dishes would taste in Singapore but who can complain when you’re so far away from home. I had the Mee Rebus and spring rolls and they were tasty. Mee Goreng seems to be fairly popular(overheard many people ordering) but I did not get a chance to try that! Definitely would recommend anyone missing some Singaporean food to visit this place!

I’ve only had a few items here, and all were tasty, but damn I love those cheap and greasy vegetable fritters. They’re 2 for a dollar and come with a sweet & vinegar dipping sauce. If you’ve had Filipino food, these are like okoy, but without the shrimp. And okoy are a complete pain in the neck to make, so these are a very good substitute for when you are craving them but don’t want to go through all that effort. Just take them home and make your own vinegar/garlic/fish sauce dipping sauce and you will hardly notice the difference.

I spent a summer in Singapore a few years ago, and my mouth still drools at the memory of the food I discovered at hawker centres across the city(country? I never know which word to use when). I’ve tried the Singaporean staples at restaurants in Seattle, and while the food has been pretty decent the price point has been proof that this is a westernised version of the food. Then I came here. Everything is under $ 10, spicy, flavourful, and just how it should be. The décor is minima and the place is always packed to the brim. Again, how it should be. The roti-prata is soft, flaky, and delicious. Both the mee goreng and laksa are pretty good too. My boyfriend(also very familiar with Singaporean food) was quite disappointed with the chicken curry because the curry powder used in it wasn’t great. But stick with the rest of the menu and you’ll have a blast.

Good Malaysian food is tough for me to find back home so when my Vancouver buddy told me about Hawker’s Delight, I was all over it. Seriously, this place is hole in the wall GOLD. Almost everything is $ 6 – 7 per dish, which I didn’t know exists these days. The perfect place to go for homemade Malaysian and Singaporean deliciousness. As you would expect, the décor is minimal and you have to grab your own water/tea. No big deal unless you’re a princess. We were hungry but there were only three of us. However, we were pretty gung ho and decided to order six dishes(technically, we only were going to order five but the lady convinced us to get roti): — Laksa($ 7.00) — thick rice noodles in a mild curry, coconut milk with dried shrimp, tofu puff, fish cake, egg, shredded chicken, prawns and bean sprouts. The broth is smooth and creamy, with only the teeniest hint of spiciness to it. Tasty but I’ve had better ones recently. — Hainanese chicken rice($ 7.00) — chicken leg served in chicken flavoured rice with cucumber and tomatoes. Comes with a really delicious vinegar-chili sauce. The hainanese chicken was light and flavourful. Such a solid plate. — Mee goreng($ 6.50) — fried wheat noodles with egg, bean sprouts, onion, tomatoes, tofu, diced potatoes and yu choy. Nicely fried, crispy, and not greasy. We ate all of this bad boy. — Roti($ 5.00) — light, fluffy, all you want in a roti along with an awesome dipping sauce. — Lamb curry with rice($ 12.00) — steamed rice served with lamb and vegetable curry stewed in rich spices. Lamb is one of my favourite things to order so we had to try it. The lamb was tender, juicy and just look how massive this plate is. — Mee soto($ 6.50) — yellow noodle with bean sprout, served in a chicken stock garnished with greens, chicken and fish cakes, Chinese celery and shallots. This was noodle overload for us. It had a very clean, hearty tasting broth — something you would order if you want to eat to be «healthier». Clearly, we ordered an excessive amount of food but my one friend took the leftovers home. You have to pay $ 0.25 for a take out container. All I can say is that Hawker’s Delight is boooooomb. Like seriously, if you’ve never been here before, you’re missing out. Like a lot. With dirt cheap prices and delicious food, this is definitely a «delight». Oh yeah, cash only.

This is another great local spot to grab a bite to take home. The inside of the restaurant is quite small and holds no real atmosphere. Solution: Get it to go. The aroma in my car on the way home was amazing. There Gado Gado was swimming in peanut sauce, the Nasi Gorang was just what I wanted and the curried chicken had two nice big whole pieces of chicken in lots of yummy curry sauce to coat the rice.

This place is know for their cheap price and large portions. Not the best Malay food I ever had but still pretty good. The place is pretty run down and need a bit of reno. I would give it another star if the food was spicier and tastier. I tried their Laksa but it was too sweet for my liking. I also tried their Char Kuey Teow. I thought it was soup noodle but was more like mee goreng like. I didn’t like the porky base sauce as I got this dish thinking it would be vegetarian. Vege fritta was ok — bit greasy but ok. I tried few of their other dishes that I can’t remeber the name but nothing really stood out as outstanding. Still, a pretty good place to grab a quick and cheap bite.
