1,092,624 different permutations of combos you can pick from! Happy sushi has a «Make Your Own Combo» deal where for $ 9.98, you can choose any three items from a list of 104 different items. Mathematically, that means there are 1,092,624 different combinations you can make. And the list of items is growing, with new items being added. This tiny hole in the wall seems family run. One sushi chef, one waitress and probably another person in the back, although that has yet to be confirmed. Service is friendly, and sushi was made quickly. Quality was good, but unexceptional. This place could and did get crowded when we were there. Pricing is par for the course. This place is not my first choice on Victoria street, but it also wouldn’t be my last choice either. Conveniently located across from London Drugs, Bank of Montréal, Starbucks and McDonald’s if you need to complete multiple errands at once.

I’ve been here before but couldn’t remember if I liked it so I decided to try it again. I ordered the dragon roll, 2 wild salmon nigiris and a miso soup. The dragon roll is unlike any other dragon roll I’ve ever had before. And I don’t mean that in a good way. For some reason there was also prawn and yam tempura. I will add that in the menu description it stated that there was going to be prawn but why the extra tempura? As for the salmon nigiri, one piece looked like it had sand on it. Needless to say I did not bother eating it. The miso soup was the only thing I finished which is pretty sad since this was supposed to be my dinner. The service was fine. The hostess even offered me some tea while I waited but I doubt I’ll come back.

one of my favourite Japanese restaurants! we are regulars now so they know us & are always genuine. their pricing is amazing they have a make your own combo option which is 3 menu items(sooo many to choose from) for only $ 10 with miso. the deep fried California roll is to die for! the food comes very fast but I don’t know how it is during the day as we usually go at like 8pm. you also get a stamp card every $ 10 you spend you get a stamp then every 5 stamps you receive something. the only negative part is that the place is so small it fills up very quickly so you’re easily out of luck if it’s busy. there’s like 5 tables then 3 chairs for singles at a bar type table.

If i could give it 0 i would. Sushi was nasty. Rolls were so massive you could barely pick it up. Soggy soggy rice. Beyond soggy. Greasy tables and chairs. Never going back. Save your money go to 49th and victoria

WHAT I GOT: AYCE sushi If you know what good sushi is then DONTGOTOTHISSUSHIPLACE. For everyone that’s rating it more than one star, you obviously never had authentic sushi I went 3 years ago thought it was terrible, just went last night after 3 years hoping it would be better and believe it or not it was worse. It is a husband and wife who run the place alone, service is slow and terrible. Please don’t waste your money! When I left all I could taste was a nasty raw fishy taste in my mouth. PROS: I want to say none but the tables are cool, under the glass is fish swimming around. Cool concept. CONS: 1. The deep fried items are deep fried in old dirty oil 2. salmon and tuna spicy rolls were so mushy that when you picked it up it was falling apart. 3. Ratio of rice to sushi was 90% rice 10% filler 4. They create the rolls so large with rice to fill you up so you don’t order more. 5. This restaurant is a joke for AYCE sushi they can not handle it as there is only 1 waitress doing everything and 1 chef. 6. A lot of the items we ordered didn’t even come to our table. E. i we order 2 orders of 3pcs chicken wings and 4pcs came. They try and chince you thinking we are dumb and don’t know what we ordered. WOULD I GOBACK: Not even if it was free

First off, this is not an authentic Japanese Sushi Resturant. It is owned and operated by some country chinese folks. The environment of the place is off. The lighting is terrible and it was too cluttered. I looked at the sushi and it came with a ton of rice. The sushi to rice ratio was not good at all so I ordered sashimi, fried oyster, salmon roll, and teriyaki beef. The salmon sashimi was thick and poorly cut. You can taste how long it has been defrosting. The fried oyster was the only good thing I had there. As for the salmon roll, it was even worse. The salmon was somehow worse than the already defrosting salmon sashimi. It looked unappetizing and the rice had too much vinegar. Lastly, was the«teriyaki» beef. It did not have teriyaki sauce and it was very wet AND was very cold. I mentioned how this place is run by country chinese folk and you can definitely tell because they put bean sprouts under the beef… really? The service was really slow and just depressing. I know this is a cheap sushi place but you can get a lot more for your money. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Do yourself a favor and find a better place to go.

For an all you can eat dinner under 20 dollars including tax and tip, this is a great option! The Chinese-run sushi place inspired menu is mainly fried foods, rolls and nigiri with very fresh fish and only one sushi chef in the tiny restaurant. They often forgot our dishes but were quick to make them right away when asked. Seemingly family run, the service is forgetful but very kind! Our favourites were the spicy salmon roll, takoyaki, deep fried scallop, and agedashi tofu. Wish we were hungry enough to try the deep fried milk!

My rating is directed at the AYCE menu. This place is incredibly ill-equipped to serve AYCE sushi. From the moment we sat down, I eyed the patrons, and the restaurant was 1⁄3 full at most. This was promising to see as it is a 1 chef operation, for AYCE service. As soon as we put down our first order, it took 20+ mins to get a part of our order — a plate full of fried things. The delay comes from the many customers coming in to pickup their take-out orders, which is probably what the solo chef was occupied with. The fried food was greasy and overall saturated in oil. They probably forgot about the fryer while rushing orders. It was only 2 of us ordering, so the order was pretty simple and short, yet we still missed out on numerous dishes. The dishes that did come out were hit and miss. Misses: –ebi sunomono –fried anything –sun roll Hits: –Nigiri sushi — too much rice though Not a lot going for this place other than cheap and dirty sushi. I’d argue it’s a borderline scam that they’re trying to push out sushi and pretend it’s good. Lots left over on our plates. To top off the whole experience, the lady/server/cashier kept offering unsolicited advice for our baby… non-necessaire seniorita.

This is my new go-to place for cheap sushi and AYCE with my friends. We have become such regulars here that the owners know us by name and know our orders… Service is a little awkward but we’ve ended up compensating by just getting our own water and tea, although I’m pretty sure most people wouldn’t enjoy doing this: P While the restaurant is run by a Chinese-family, they are super sweet and accommodating so it gives the place a comfortable feel compared to some other restaurants where the servers are all up in your face/rude/hate their life. The best thing about their AYCE aside from being one of the cheapest places for dinner($ 14.98 on weekdays and $ 1 extra on weekends), is they don’t limit any of the items on their menu(ie. prawn tempura). They also have a really good selection for the 3 items for $ 9.99 which is definitely worth it! The quality of their fish and sashimi is actually surprisingly good. This is one of the only«cheap» sushi places that I will eat chopped scallop rolls at because I’ve found a lot of other places either skimp out or use poor quality scallop which leaves a metallic taste in your mouth. However, at Happy Sushi they chop the scallop into very decent sized pieces and give a generous portion for the roll! The nigiri sushi also has some surprisingly good options: I always get the Saba(mackeral) because it’s actually very fresh and flavourful here, and I would definitely recommend the Salmon Tataki which is almost like a Salmon Toro that has been lightly seared with some teriyaki sauce or something drizzled on top. Fatty goodness! The last item that I would have to recommend is the deep fried milk which my friends and I are ADDICTED to. It’s some sort of condensed milk/evaporated milk concoction that has been wrapped in spring roll paper and deep fried. So when you bite into it, the roll is crunchy but it’s filled with this sweet, gelatinous mixture(that’s piping hot!) but SOGOOD! It’s the bomb.

Solid three stars on my radar because the standards for Sushi in Vancouver are quite high. Cons: Service is a bit lacking here, as is the dining space. Also, the menu appears to have everything but the kitchen sink on it… AYCE, make your own combos, party trays etc… Which is a con in my opinion because the saying«jack of all trades, master of none» is never wrong. Pros:(I ordered a la carte, so I can’t comment on the AYCE quality.) My benchmark for good sushi is the salmon roll and toro nigiri. If you can’t do the simple things right, I’d be hesitant to try anything else. This place definitely delivered on both counts… Fresh and tasty with fair ratios of fish to rice. In a nutshell, it is a good decent bet for lunch but nothing to phone home about or go out of your way to at.

This sushi place is quite cramped but I decided to give it a try anyways. I ordered two sushi rolls and I waited about 30 minutes and there were not a lot of customers at the time. The service was not very good either. The sushi is also very mediocre and nothing to rave about. I am disappointed and I don’t think I will be visiting again.

Well made food, diverse menu and good price points. I will have to say I am a fan of Happy Sushi for the well made food, diverse menu and price points. Don’t come here expecting an omakase experience but come here for everyday sushi, something that satisfies the belly and the wallet. Their menu is quite diverse and it offers ala-carte, chose 3 items for something like $ 10.88 or the best priced AYCE in town at $ 14.98. While the restaurant may be small, cramped and busy it’s the service of the family run and owned joint that makes it popular neighborhood haunt. Often it will be quite busy, so call in advance if you need a reservation or takeout. Most likely will return when I need a sushi quick fix.

Great service. The happy combo is more than enough food for under 10 bucks. Great value, great fresh food for either dine in or take out.

The all you can eat menu offers a wide selection and a good value. I really enjoy the spanish salad, Ebi, and the vegi rolls. Very friendly staff. I can’t say too much about the chicken soups /rolls and the raw fish(not something I eat much),.

Not an authentic venue but good variety of items half decently prepared. $ 10 gets you 3 choices to pick off the sushi menu soup included, or you can choose all-u-can-eat for $ 15 on weekdays or 16 on weekends. I tried some rolls and sushi for take out. The rice tastes rather bland probably because they use minimal vinegar to prep or it is just omitted. 3stars for the edible food and fair prep’d food but 4stars total for variety and pricing. Service was prompt. Parking best found on side streets in back.

I have come back again and again for the $ 10 combo! I only ever order the Dynamite Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, Roll, and California Roll all of which are standard fare for Chinese run sushi joints. Not the best but large and very filling. My friends are always adventurous and would order non-staple items from the menu and I would say the rate of being pleasantly surprised vs. disappointed is 60⁄40. A husband & wife team runs this place by themselves and I commend them both for going above and beyond in terms of service. Whenever we order the fried rice we would ask for customizations(black pepper, less soy sauce, smaller cuts of chicken etc etc) and they would almost always deliver. The few times that our specifications were not met we were given a free dish to compensate. Wow! Considering we are paying $ 3.33 for our dishes this is really great service. There are only 2 people running the show here so sometimes the food can take a while. And they don’t have spoons, so we have to use the Chinese soup spoon to eat our rice which can get awkward but we adapt. Overall not the best tasting sushi, but go here if you’re hungry and craving for quick, cheap sushi.

$ 15 ayce sushi dinner before tax and tip? No flipping way. The last time I saw this, was Ji Sushi, which folded after a rather short time. Parking is available in front, as well as on the side streets. The staff are Chinese, but you’d expect this from most places in Vancouver. Service was quite friendly, with a smile. The selection is actually not bad. What sets this place apart is that most rolls are also available in cone form(most other places only have 5 types of cones or so). Not a biggie but this does allow you to «mix it up» a bit. Their rolls are actually quite good. My benchmark(BC roll) delivered. Most of my time was spent stuffing my face and double-fisting cones. Oh yes. The only thing about this place is that well, there’s no dessert. No mango pudding or beloved Jell-O. The closest we could find was a mango roll. My buddy didn’t like it, but I thought it was pretty good. The mango was a bit on the raw side, but I’m guessing they do this so that things don’t turn mushy. One last thing: as with most places of this type, they take Interac but not credit cards. I will definitely be back around dinnertime. Recommended.

Is it still possible to keep this place a secret? After driving by Sushi Bay and finding out that it was closed on Labour Day, we decided to pop by Happy Sushi. Happy Sushi has this deal where for $ 10, you can order any three items off an extensive list of menu items ranging from the usual rolls, teriyaki and udon. And they have stamp cards for a free menu item. Wait, stamp cards for a sushi restaurant? This is new. I thought that only bubble tea places do this. Cheap, filling and good. I’m so glad that I live in this city.
