I don’t even want to give it 1 star. I went here on a Friday with my boyfriend. They were not that busy considering it was a Friday night. Only 3 tables were occupied. If you go inside a restaurant and sit down, you expect a server to great you and give you the menu. After we sat down, we waited for approximately 15 mins but no one came with the menu so my boyfriend had to go get it. I would have understood if the place was busy but that was not the case. We ordered veggie pakoras, fish pakoras, cashew curry, garlic naan and two drinks. The veggie pakoras were not fully cooked in my opinion. Veggie pakoras are supposed to be crunchy but these ones were mushy. The fish pakoras were not good as well since the fish they used didn’t taste fresh. The cashew curry was ok but by the time we were eating the curry, we were already not happy with the previous food that came out and our appetite was gone. The garlic naan had too much garlic on it. We spent about 60 dollars and we expect good food when we spend that much for food. We were not happy with the service nor the quality and taste of the food. Will never go back again.

Having spent much time living in Malaysia, and experienced incredible Indian cuisine, Ginger Garlic beats it all. Not only are the staff wonderfully professional and friendly, the food is beyond incredible — seriously. Butter Chicken is my husband’s and I favourite dish, and I defy anyone to try it and dislike it. We’ve also sampled the palak paneer, which is equally as delicious(homemade cheese with garlic and spinach curry sauce). We can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough — the best in town! Huge shout out to Benji :) Skye and Amir.

I saw lunch special board outside this restaurant(butter chicken, plain naan, rice & Samosa for $ 12). The restaurant was not busy, had just one couple eating lunch. I asked the girl at the counter if they had any vegetarian lunch special. She said we will substitute butter chicken with any vegetative dish of your choice in menu. I specifically asked again«Can you do Paneer in the lunch special». She said yes, seated us & came to take our order. As discussed with her, I ordered the paneer substitute in the lunch special. After 20 mints of waiting, the same girl comes to our table & says to me «we are going to charge $ 4 extra for the substitute». What a pathetic service & how is it lunch special by any means. It is so unprofessional not to mention the extra charge upfront when I asked her twice specifically. Not even mention it during taking the order but waste our time & show up after 20 mints. Pathetic customer service, would not recommend to anyone!

Had the 15.99 Canadian dollar dinner special for two: Samosa, rice, butter chicken and naan. Great deal and delicious! Naan and Samosas were obviously freshly made, curry not overly creamy — very flavorful. Wish places like this existed in California! This is much better and less expensive than one entrée where we are from.

Delicious butter chicken, garlic naan, roti, paneer, and tandoori! We got a large order for take out, the wait was only 20 mins which was good considering it was during the festival of lights(a ridiculously busy event happening just outside the restaurant), and they kept us hydrated with free drinks during the wait time. They are very upfront about everything, even if it might sound discouraging(the wait times, spices, etc.) But you can tell they mean well and only do so to help you get the best meal for yourself. The mild is still really spicy, so be cautious if you have trouble with spicy food! Other than that, I’ll be returning again during my next vancity visit

Another addition to the not so special Indian restaurants in the West End neighborhood. Ginger Garlic is nothin but the same kinda North Americanized Indian food which you’d find at normal Indian restaurants. We had the Samosas which were not good at all. The tandoori chicken was ok but was unevenly salted. Also they don’t have the standard green spicy mint & cilantro chutney. The chicken tikka & biryani were ok but not wow. I’d high hopes from this place but now I don’t want to aloo chat about it anymore. Food: OK Service: Ok Ambiance: OK Worth the price:(–_-)

The food here is usually great! But the service here is terrible. I order take out via the phone and after placing my(easy) order the man on the phone said it would take 40 mins and he would call me back asap to confirm my order. He never called me back. When I rang he had placed the wrong order for me and said it would be another 40 mins on top. I arrived after the extra 40 mins and they still weren’t ready. I am not angry… I’m just very disappointed.

The best place for Indian food in WestEnd for sure. the prices are OK *not too expensive, not too cheap). And the food is just delicious. Must try for sure for anyone.

It’s been a while since I’ve had food this bad. I ordered«daal soup», which I assumed was just dal with a whitewashed name. Nope. It had vinegar in it. So it must be some invention of their own. Vinegar in dal! My ancestors probably all collectively cringed. I can handle heat. More than handle. I grew up with it, I’ve lived it and been moulded by it. But the heat in this particular food here gave my mouth severe burn. It’s a one dimensional unpleasant sort of heat with as much flavour as a McDonald’s happy meal. Next time I’ll just buy canned butter chicken and dump a bottle of chilli powder in it. Then I’ll open up a restaurant, give my dishes cheesy un-Indian names and sell them for a profit. I do not recommend.

Love it when you find cuisine that has authentic chef and food prepared. 2 can dine is cheap, comes with Naan, 2 samosas, butter chicken where you can choose the level of heat mmmmm! And of course basmati rice yum! You can order for to go too which is awesome cuz I live close by. Too bad their hours is not published or posted any where to notify patrons but for sure they are open Fridays past 10pm.

The wonderful aroma that comes from. this restuarant on to Davie evokes hunger. It smells so good that finally we had no choice but to give in to and order take out on a night I genuinely craved spice. My bf’s sister was visiting from T.O. and was looking foward to eating at the place she herself agrees the smell alone is great. We ordered the curry chicken and butter chicken. We picked up, and the restaurant was not very busy at all. The restaurant itself is nothing special, it has a full bar which is nice. The total came to$ 47.00. Which is a lot of money considering we ordered 2 dishes. I did not see the breakdown of the bill but I know what I ordered. We took the food home and the chicken was sparse. In my entire take out container we could could 8 peices of small bits of chicken. We were really disappointed, it was just all gravy and sauce no meat. The next day I made my own chicken to eat with the gravy and rice but even though we had refridgerated the food it smelled sour so it waa thrown out. I do not reccommend this place. Being that I can cook indian food myself, when I eat out I expect the quality to be very good. Not returning. Dont let the smell fool you.

Very good properly spiced food freshly prepared: you can see it all happening in the kitchen, which is up front visible from the street & entrance way. Be a little willing to wait, and enjoy a beer. Good food takes time. Spicing is intense & balance, not necessarily hot but well seasoned. Prices are good. New & clean but low on ambiance, with several TV’s showing Bollywood stuff. Take out available.

Great food, servings are quite big so if you order a couple of samosas and a main dish it will be enough for two people.

We decided to order Indian food in and found this place online. I called and placed the order and was told it would be an hour. That seemed like a long time since we are only 4 blocks away but — ok. After an hour and 10 minutes with no food I called back and got an answering machine but did not leave a message figuring they must be really busy. Waited a few minutes called back and left a message thinking I would receive a call back. Nothing. At this point we got suspicious and called back with a different cell — they answered on the second ring! They were screening our call. We were told that the delivery guy had forgotten the credit card machine so he did all the other deliveries first and then went back to the restaurant to get the machine. At this point it was close to 2 hrs since we first placed the order. At no time did he apologize for the delay. When the food finally showed up it was so cold that we sent the guy away with the food. We will NEVER order from here again

Dodgy… Placed an order at … 30 minutes later get a phone call from the manager saying he’s cancelling my order and wants me to order direct because of fees he has to pay and a delivery radius or whatever. I said OK, go ahead and cancel the JustEat Order and I’d like to order direct. When will it be here? He said 30 minutes… An hour later, nothing shows up. I call back, and he gave me a long spiel… long & the short of it is he wanted me literarily hang up the phone and call back and place the order. Argh!!!

Went here on a weekday for dinner. I was worried at first, it wasn’t super crowded. But, it proved to be a good choice. We had excellent service(which is not always a guarantee when you go to a half-empty place! [see my other reviews]). The décor was pretty nice. My dinner date ordered the Wednesday special – chicken tikka masala. It was nicely spicy(not hot) and was a pretty good sized portion. I had the chana masala. We ordered some garlic naan and nicely seasoned rice. I liked my chana masala; it wasn’t overly spicy, but it had a good mix of flavors. Definitely would go here again. Nice little surprise on Davie street!

The best Indian food in the West End. Surprisingly good dishes with a bit of a home-made style, which is good. The various dishes we have tried have all be good. Not too much oil, good use of spices, and generous portions — you’ll have a nice lunch portion for the next day. Be cautious if you ask for spicy/hot dishes — we usually find Indian food to be too mild in Vancouver, but here hot means genuinely spicy and fiery. We return regularly and the restaurant is getting busier and reputation appears to building.
