I saw a sandwich board while walking that short women’s cut was $ 10. I just needed the side of my head buzzed/trimmed and that that $ 40 for half a head for a quick buzz from my regular hair dresser was a bit much, especially, since I’m being extremely frugal for the holiday season. Thankfully these guys were very reasonable for something that wasn’t an extraordinary hair request. I love my regular hair dresser but I can’t go wrong with $ 10 during the holiday season for a clean up when my hair will be under my hood anyway most of the time during the weather. I emailed Cynthia and she called me back the following day. They are students, therefore, a lot of time and patience is required. There is an instructor who walks by to guide the students. I had a simple side scissor cut to shape my Mohawk. Small charge for protein product which I needed. They were really accommodating about not drying hair since my hair is damaged. I didn’t do much socializing cause I wanted the student to concentrate. You’re paired at the time with a student randomly. Just a heads up that there is no tip option when paying by card, therefore, it’s cash tips to students. There is wifi, therefore, was able to work on my zine while having my hair done. I was aware of the negative reviews going in, however, most are based on those getting color or highlights. Mine was a very simple side cut. I do have a regular colorist I go I just needed on off schedule clean cut hence the visit.

So love this place! I happened to walk by and saw the sign for colouring. After being in Vancouver and getting my hair coloured in so many different places, spending premium prices and walking out incredibly unhappy I thought well it’s worth a try, at least I wouldn’t walk out having spent a fortune. I spoke with the owner and explained my problem and how many places I had gone to and that every time I walked out my hair was never the colour I wanted, a simple deep brown, they always made it black. I went to Yaletown salons, Kerrisdale, Main Street… so many places. She was so patient with me, listened to my rant and set up an appointment with one of the girls. Wow is all I can say. I was so happy and so relieved to have found somewhere that listened and gave me exactly what I was looking for. This is my regular place now. I can’t imagine going any where else. I’ve also had my hair cut a few times and walk out happy every time. Love the cute Pug too! It’s such a lovely and friendly environment.

I asked for a trim and the hair dresser kept cutting it shorter and shorter«to fix and make sure it’s straight». Then she cut another inch, and another inch, and another inch. My hair originally reached the bottom of my back but I came out with shoulder length hair. That hair dresser should find another profession.

One upon a time… I was a fan… Well located… Average price… It was OK cuz as the time I was dying my hair black… So it was not really challenging… To do my roots touch-up… Then I decided to go for a lighter color… The student who did-it …Did a great job… Pretty quiet, not a talker person. Which I like believe-it or not… So… Why one twinkle little star? Cuz I went back one day for doing my high lights again… Previously made at this beauty school… The buzz was that my apprentice was sick that day. So one of the supervisor did my high lights… She was rude and super annoyed cuz the student was sick… And she had to take over… And she was saying non-stop… Yur hair are soooooo long… So… She decided to simply put some toner… NO color… I asked her if it was right… And she was like no worries… You will see a difference… Anyway it take less time bla, bla, bla… NOONE, I mean NOONE noticed my high lights… I wasn’t sure if I was wrong while checking out my hair in their bathroom before I leave… NEVER. EVER. AGAIN.

I sincerely don’t feel I would be writing as negative review as I’m about to had my stylist not been the owner/operator. I have long(nearly waist long) thick hair. I decided I wanted a small change and felt it was so simple that a school would be great. The young lady assigned to me was very unsure of herself as I explained in detail that I wanted a trim, long bangs and a little layering on the sides. The owner/operator came over because the young lady was pulling my hair while combing it and dropped the scissors I again explained in detail my simple request and felt more comfortable as she took charge. I picked up a magazine because the student seemed embarrassed. What a mistake when I glanced up the owner was taking random CHUNKS of my hair twisting it in a spiral and HACKING into my hair. I asked her to stop and she NASTILY told me that was the way to cut hair. I looked at my uneven choppy mess of layers on either side of my face and asked if she could straighten them out or at least even the length on both sides. She made eye-contact with me in the mirror and intimated that I should enjoy my cut the way it was. I was frankly intimidated and VERY uncomfortable. I paid the bill, tipped and went home. It will take years to grow this mess and I’ve had to have my hair cut to shoulder length. If this review saves even one person from this HORRIBLE business I’ve done someone a huge favor

i had a lot of trouble writing this review… my experience was kind polarizing here, and i didn’t want to give them an unfair lower rating. i came in, and the stylist introduced herself to me and seemed nice. however, she didn’t talk to me almost the entire time, which was super awkward. i was a bit jealous, because the other stylists were all chatting away with their clients. this leads into my next point, that she didn’t really ask me what i wanted. i said that i wanted dark ash blond, but she didn’t ask for any specifics or pictures or anything like that. i like being consulted during the entire procedure, and as i know that she is a student still, it was a bit unnerving. i tried to talk to her a few times, but she seemed politely disinterested. i wish i’d gotten one of the more talkative hairdressers. her supervisors starting coming around later, and they made me feel more secure and actually spoke to me. my hair came out really cool, but it definitely isn’t dark ash… more like a shade above platinum. now i want to be clear about this — i LOVE the color they gave me, i have no complaints except the fact that it’s not what i asked for. the other thing that annoyed me was that i came in a day before to ask about the price, and ended up paying quite a bit more than they told me. i understand that it depends on how much product they have to use, but i wish they had told me a more accurate price. i’m a student so i have a tight budget and i’d rather not be surprised like that. despite all the negative stuff, i know that this is a hair school and not a «professional» salon(though they work like professionals), and the products they used on my hair were pretty amazing. the stylist did the fastest bleach i have ever had, which was nice because it meant less scalp-burning.

I usually opt for the student services at Blanche MacDonald or discounted services on craigslist when it comes to keeping up with whatever colour and style I choose to get done at my regular salon. I choose the cheap route for my basic hair maintenance. With that being said, I never go into a student learning atmosphere with the highest of expectations, i’m realistic. But I also only opt for these cheaper and less experienced services because i’m asking for only a trim or basic cut and leave the more challenging services to my main salon. Anyways, after a friend recommended Future Hair I figured i’d give it a try since my requests were nothing difficult or drastic. Who knew asking for a simple few inches cut off, requesting to keep it just resting at my shoulders, and long enough to keep in a pony tail, would turn into an a-line bob with the longest pieces falling just below my chin. Now don’t get me wrong, the cut was okay and luckily i’ve had this cut before and am okay with it. My hair grows fast. But I had spent over 2 years growing it out and wanted a nice and healthy looking new length, and being able to put my hair up is a big deal for me. My requests were very straight forward, simple, and I had three photos of my desired length. What really gets me though is that a girl who worked there(not a student) took over nearly instantly from the students first cut and just went to town. Once I noticed, it was too late. I mentioned to her that it was shorter than I had asked and clarified with her that we both agreed to my shoulders, she then argues(while stretching out the longest piece of wet hair she could find) towards my shoulders and says«It is at your shoulders?» Me, absolutely rattled by her clear misconception of shoulders to chin, decided it was too late to do much more as she clearly didn’t care, was too stubborn, and I paid $ 15 for a cut so why complain. It’s more so the principle behind it all and the fact that she argued something that clearly wasn’t correct. Be professional, acknowledge you fucked up and apologize. Maybe I could have gotten my flat iron service free rather than charge me an additional $ 5. She finished up and left the student to style the rest and cut my fringe. The student foolishly says while blowdrying«It definitely looked longer while wet.» Umm anyone with half a brain knows that wet hair looks longer than dry hair. Just completely baffled by the lack common sense and professionalism in these girls, I shut up cause I needed out of there. Anyways, not that this really affects their business as they are a school, I will NOT be returning.

Whatever you do, don’t go to this place! I went for just a colour and ended up: 1. gave me a light consultation about my colour w/o going indepth to find out more about my hair… i.e. covering gray, etc. No instructor stood with her as she was talking to me. I caught the instructor as the stylist was making the colour who then ran after the stylist with instructions on what to do to fix the colour. 2. Afterwards, stain was around my hairline which she didn’t do a good job at removing so fabulous if you get all your co-workers noticing. ! 3. When she asked if I was getting a cut and I said no, she asked if she could use a bit of product and then dried it in such a simple, boring way without asking me how I part my hair, what I like to do with it, that I just couldn’t stand it. 4. Oh yeah, when she was drying my hair, she was very, very slow… not helpful if you have to go back to work. In no way was the instructor part of this appointment except as I noted above. If it’s a training centre, shouldn’t the students be supervised in all areas of the appointment?

this place is great if you want to save money. First time I went there, they were so nice and invititng. They told me their hair color does not have ammonia in it and it smelled great. The supervisor herself did my hair and did a great job. However, as I became a regular client, they kept assigning new students to do my hair and told me I should pay more for my hair since I have too much hair. The color does not have ammonia in it but it washes out very quickly. My dark red hair color washed away and my bleached blonde hair was showing afet 3 washes. Also, last time I was there the manager treated the student coloring my hair with so much disrespect and was super rude to her. I felt so very uncomfortable being there and having to deal with the student silently crying as she colored my hair. My advice: If you want to save money, go there the first time when the supervisor would do your hair and then never go back again.

I’ve been a future hair client for years. Last time I went there I went in as a brunette and came out as a knock out red head. I always leave the salon looking like a million bucks — and never have to pay that much. Professional instructors, beautiful salon, modern, great advice on products, cuts and colour. I would and do recommend to each and every one of my friends. They also cut my three year old’s hair. He loves the pug :) and he loves that everyone is so patient and nice to him, he’s treated like the prince he is :)

It was not my first experience in a school. The student didn’t introduce herself first. She didn’t do a consultation, didn’t ask me anything. Took forever to wash my hair, and it was horrible. Didn’t wash my neck and didn’t rinse all the shampoo. Cut too much. I left at the middle of the blow dry because she was burning my scalp and my hair was grassy. Teacher was not help full at all, she was sneezing in my hair. I am sorry but aveda institute and bumble and bumble school are 12324564 times better. Not professional at all.
