I went to Vancouver for spring break a few weeks ago and stayed within walking distance of this bakery. My roommate who came with me on the trip has been diagnosed with gluten intolerance and we decided to give the bakery a shot on our first morning there. As we learned, they make cinnamon buns on the weekends and the first thing we tried was their cinnamon buns and oh. My. Goodness. Their cinnamon buns were out of this world amazing. As someone who is not gluten intolerant or has celiac disease, I have tried many a gluten free pastry/baked good since my roommate shares some of her goodies with me at times. Most gluten free baked goods I have had are crumbly and just overall unappealing, but this cinnamon bun has changed my mind! Of course, all of their other goods were wonderful as well and I love that they make some of their items without additive sugar. Needless to say, we went every day that they were open the week we were there. My roommate was so sad to leave, but now we know where we’re going the next time we’re in Vancouver!

This place is my mothership for tasty gluten free goodies. I was diagnosed celiac 7 years ago, and while I can navigate my way around the kitchen and bake my own treats and strike the appropriate balance of tasty and wholesome, sometimes I’m not up to the task — or am simply wandering the area with my boyfriend and need a pick me up. The place itself is loaded with natural light and charming décor, I would say it’s just as appropriate to bring your family as it is to bring a friend or partner. I love their signage, and they way they display their menu and treats is so wonderful. It makes it feel like a special occasion to get to select your treats of choice. These treats are so tasty I usually can’t take my first bite without doing a dance of happiness/contentment. I have been to dozens of gluten free bakeries and I have to say this one is my favorite. I would absolutely recommend stopping in– particularly if you’re celiac and want to worry-free have your pick of the menu :)

Food is tasty but portions are small. If you eat small amounts per sitting then this place will work for you, but if you like to eat your fill then expect to pay upwards of $ 20 – 25. Honestly, gluten free food doesn’t cost that much to make so I don’t understand the pricing of this place. For instance, a fruit smoothy in a 500mL mason jar was $ 7 + tax. Really? The tables are old and shoddy. It would be nice if they improved the décor a bit. The friend I went with was tall and there wasn’t a single table where his knees didn’t come up to the edge. The staff are friendly and there is a decent selection. In my opinion it’s not money for value. I wish there were more gluten free places in Vancouver that weren’t just trying to cash in on a fad. Some of us really do have medical conditions and it would be nice to not have to pay through the nose for the simple joy of eating out. I won’t be returning to this bakery.

I was very impressed with this bakeshop. Very good breakfast sandwich and fantastic coffee. Also grabbed a muffin and a loaf of bread to take home and they were both great. The service at the shop was also very welcoming. Good job Float on!

All week I’ve been excited to try this gluten free bakery, but they were closed. I went in today and the door was open but they said I couldn’t buy anything. I got all excited for nothing. Booo

The sugar-free spiced pear scone is good, and the man behind the counter is friendly, but I wish they could have some cake slices or other desserts(e.g. tarts, pies) available in the store instead of just having them as special orders. The bakeshop is full when I went in. I’m sure if they expand the bakeshop and have more products available, there will still be many customers if they maintain the quality of their baked goods.

Best by far! We moved from Vancouver to Port Moody, and still make special trips to come back to Float On. For my wife’s 30th birthday she said she wanted to go somewhere delicious, not fancy. So we came to Float On.

Robin and his crew at Float On are the best. I’m an Aussie and my boyfriend and I tried a lot of different coffee shops here to no satisfaction but thank gawd for Float On! Robin knows his stuff when it comes to coffee and the coffee actually tastes strong and better than anything else in Van that I’ve tried. Float On also do delicious ginger snaps(or sparkles as they call them) and yummy sandwiches and crepes. Everything is freshly baked and it smells delicious every time you walk in. Indulging in Float On’s treats and coffee every day gave me warm fuzzies, not to mention as a music journo… Robin has excellent taste in music… after all, Float On is named after that classic Modest Mouse tune. Check this place out and make sure you go on an empty stomach!

I’d been here a few times in the past and tried a few of the baked goods(cookies, brownies, etc), and always enjoyed them. What has me writing this review is their baguettes. I popped in a few weeks ago on my way back to North Van, not for anything in particular but just because I was passing… I got a few(ok 6) cookies and a brownie(most of which, and I don’t just mean the brownie, were gone by the time I got home) and I saw they had baguettes, which I hadn’t tried before, so I got one as well. *MINDBLOWN* Not only is this the best gf baguette I’ve ever had, it was also the best gf bread at all I’ve ever had, NOTEVENTOASTED. Toasted just takes it to another level, but seriously, I can’t say enough about how delicious it was. So much so that I asked them to set aside 2 for me tomorrow to pick up on my way past as they were out by the time I was in today. I may or may not buy more cookies and brownies while I’m there. Also worth mentioning is that this place is run by the most lovely family with two beautiful little girls who are sometimes around helping in the shop, though I imagine they are in school nowadays. I’m 110% in for supporting small businesses and this is one running on pure heart. I will continue to make this spot a part of my commute and I fully encourage everyone else who appreciates great gluten-free treats to do the same. Perhaps one day I may have the self-restraint to take a picture before I inhale their goodies

I had such a nice afternoon here! My dad and his partner and I went on a gluten free tour around Vancouver and we had such lovely, thoughtful service from the gentleman at the till. He was excited for us and he gave us a bit of their baguette to try… it was so soft and delicious! The other great thing about this place is they had my favourite treat of the day, it was a cookie with lots of things in it, I forget what is was called but it had chocolate chips and pretzels in it which is awesome. They were out of flatbreads, so I will be back to try more :-)

Everything gluten free! Who can disagree. Their pasties are really quite yummy, I especially recommend their banana chocolate muffin. Be careful about ordering their mini pancakes at breakfast time, they really are very mini. I appreciate the fact that it allows me to sample more food, but when it’s smaller than the size of a toonie, it makes me feel like I’m stealing food off a toddler’s plate. The reason for the 3 stars is actually not because of the miniature pancakes and crepes. Everytime I come in here, I feel like it’s a Monday. Service could use some improvement.

I’m always on the lookout for gluten free bakeries, and I was so excited to check this place out when I heard that it opened, although it did take me a little while. I’ve been here twice now, the first time I got a banana bread muffin(SOGOOD) and a white sandwich bun that was also amazing. Probably the closest texture to regular ol’ white bread that I’ve found so far. The second time was just this evening. I’ve been dying to try their honey oat bread, so I called to see what time they were open til and it turned out they were already closed, but the lovely gentleman on the phone told me I could pop by to grab my bread. When I arrived he had it ready for me and told me that he had thrown a couple jelly donuts they made that day in the bag for me. So nice! And they were also delicious! This place has really got a handle on gluten free goods with great texture. So many times I’ve eaten something that was gritty/chalky/whatever, but not from this place. Highly recommend!

A nice little family of gluten free bakeries have sprouted up in Vancouver in recent years and Float On stands out due to their delicious buns, satisfying flat bread and a rather large dollop of charm. It’s a perfect Fraser hood nook for a gf breakfast stop or tasty gf lunch. As mentioned, I’m a big fan of the the flat bread and love the different(and well crafted) topping varieties offered each day. The buns have become a sandwich staple at my house and they possess that gorgeous fluffiness and chewiness that every gf baker seeks, but doesn’t always attain. It’s remarkably challenging! The décor is a lovely mix of vintage eclectic with attention to sweet details and the owners are just as charming. The banana bread is always moist and delicious. I will keep coming back for my gf staple buns and continue trying new things along the way. Yum! Update: my new favourite is the almond ricotta raspberry muffin. Try it!

Had a great latte here the other day. If I was rating just on the one coffee this place deserves 5 stars but I’ll save the last one for my soon to be repeat visits.

Unfortunately their donuts are a little heavy even for gluten free. I’ve had better at a couple other shops. A little disappointing with all the hype this place has received.

I must say when it comes to dessert I am a hard one to please. When it comes to breakfasts foods my expectations are sky high. So coming into a new bakery its pretty hard to impress me. But GODDAMN!!! Float on i applaud you. Your ham, cheese egg flatbread breakfast thing so good, hits the right spot. Cinnamon blueberry rolls with mascarpone frosting SOGREAT(one could argue a revelation)!!! Why a 4 and not a five? Upon visiting again each time they were sold out of the cinnamon buns. So I was able to try more of the menu… im sorry to report that their breakfast sandwich was really bland and their cookies leave much to be desired.

This place simply stole my heart at the last craft fair ’cause the name of the eatery is the same as the name of my favorite Modest Mouse song. It is so awesome that they finally have a store front. If you go to the website which shows their menu. On the«about me» page are the lyrics to Float On. Did I mention how much I love Modest Mouse! The interior is childlike meets hipster meets urban… in all the right balances that compliments everyone while maintaining a sense of creative interior ambiance. The furniture is antique tables down to the chairs that feel like those old elementary school desk chairs. Everything here is gluten free, therefore, it was nice not to have to worry about my brunch. The lady and owner is super nice and friendly. We’ve met before when her and her husband were at the Make It Craft fair. He loves Dinosaur Jr. They have a large selection of menu items. In fact it took me a really long time to decide(6 minutes). Prices are very reasonable. I had the egg flat bread which tasted amazing. I had the«yellow» smoothy which had a bunch of fruit and turmeric. It didn’t taste bad, didn’t taste good. Just different. There was a very strong turmeric taste which takes a while to get used to, however, made my insides feel good.

Only 4 days old, Float On Café and Bakeshop left a good impression on me. Friendly service, cute décor, Elysian coffee was yummy and the banana bread muffin with espresso ganache was so moist and delicious. My only complaint was the price of the muffin but I’m admittedly not an expert in gluten free items so maybe that’s the norm. At least it was a big serving for the money. I’ll definitely come back and try their sandwiches or waffles!

Fraserhood, you lucky dogs! @floatonbakeshop #glutenfree has finally opened up just this weekend. Today«just happened to be passing by…» No really. Okay to be perfectly honest, I did have an ear to the rail for the brick & mortar, but I’ve already sampled the goodies at a recent craft faire so I’ve been chomping at the bit for the shop to open. I’m happy to report the goods are quality, the shop is adorbs! PS added bonus; Elysian Coffee is also served.
