Food is pricey and average test wise. The waiters were obnoxious. Crab appy was good.

Came to Copper Chimney when I was staying at Le Soleil upstairs. I liked the design of the restaurant, which was nice given that it is often hard to get Indian food in a modern setting. The bartenders were very nice and the food was good. However, the menu prices were a bit high.

A nicely furnished and decorate venue, with hotel service and quality, because the hotel is connected next door. Food is very edible even if you’re not a fan of Indian food as the flavours are very mild and the ingredients common. There’s even poutine, sliders and vegetable chips. We got in early for the happy hour menu, a very good deal, if you consider 2 appies is less costly than one entrée. The poutine is likely the most filling, sliders you get 2 burgers, a bit small but tasty. Personally I like the meat naan appy. Will be back for more appies!

Its been a while since i went there, i supposedly wrote a review but it never got posted for some reason. So me and my buddy went there earlier this year around in July. At first, we were quite impressed by the ambience. It was, however shattered as soon as we didn’t find much vegetarian options. My buddy is veggie, i do eat meat, but not as much. Seriously, an Indian restaurant without plenty of veg options! We found a dish on the lunch special menu«Chana Masala(chick pea curry) with paneer». It was monday and that was the lunch special for the day for $ 15. Even though it was expensive for that dish, i won’t mind paying that if the quality and quantity is good. When we were served, the portion was really small. Secondly, it wasn’t even chana masala, it was mutter paneer(green peas with paneer). We are both a big fan of mutter paneer so never complained about it. But just wondering, did no one ever noticed! The food was good, so no complaints on that except the naan bread wasn’t house made. I know a lot of restaurants don’t make it but just sell the ready made ones. Service was good, we didn’t ask for much though! I would have rated it over 4 for ambience and quality of food. But the«missing» Indian touch made me rate it 3.

I came here for a friend’s dinner gathering last night, it was a big table of 13 or 14 guests. There is a public parking lot across the street for $ 6 for evening till the next morning 6am, really cheap and worth it! Not sure if that’s a weekend rate only, but it’s cheaper than street meter parking. It’s also close to Burrard skytrain, about a 2 minute walk. The restaurant is inside Hotel Soleil and one of my friends always comes here for his work lunches. The restaurant is cozy and warm looking, and my friend said it won an award for being best Indian-fusion. They open at 5pm for dinner and serve their Happy Hour menu between 5pm — 7pm, which ranges from $ 6 and up. Their Happy Hour Butter Chicken poutine is huge and comes in a cast-iron pan, add-on chicken bits for $ 5. That was my favorite dish! The food is more Westernized style(this is fusion, not authentic Indian cuisine), and the portions for the Happy Hour were justified to great. I’ve seen bad reviews on this restaurant about half a year to a year ago on serving portions that were too small, so it looks like they’ve fixed this issue. A lady was very friendly, happy, and chatty, maybe she was the hostess or manager. However, one of the guests at our table mentioned he thought the male waiter was a little pushy about getting people to order their main dishes. I got the same vibe too, he seemed stoic and rushed. But I guess the waiter was probably instructed to get the orders in quickly. He wasn’t as friendly or chatty as staff I’ve met at other hotel restaurants, so I’ll attribute it to him being stressed or having a serious personality but he was still professional — he could learn to smile though. Aside from that, he and all the staff were professional and attentive to patrons. Tip was a mandatory 18% since we were a large group. I was surprised that the restaurant wasn’t fuller on a Saturday night since it seemed kind of quiet. They are in prime Downtown location, so I’m wondering if the past negative reviews hurt them. I just want to set the record straight that we had a solid good experience here last night so they are improving, although there still needs some minor improvements. The food was really good, beautifully presented, came out timely. The table settings were nice as well and I saw everyone taking foodfies of their dishes for their Facebook and Instagram. I only take foodfies for Unilocal.I’ve never been to Copper Chimney until this weekend, and I’m now a fan. I will recommend the restaurant to all my friends in the Downtown core. The only advice I have as a Government employee, previous Human Resources professional of a large retail chain, and freelance Mystery Shopper, is to coach your male waiter to smile more, act more relaxed, and have him make some small talk with your patrons rather than just asking them to order. And to all the staff — please do say goodbye to your table guests as they leave, because I didn’t see that happen. The girl who hosted this dinner gathering said she was disapointed that she had to go up to the staff and say, «Thank you very much» to see if they’d respond. It looked like they were busy counting the money and forgot to thank our table goodbye, so I took one star off for that. If staff is busy sorting the bills or something else, make sure there is one staff member ready to thank the table goodbye to leave a pleasant ending impression. Otherwise, it may mistakenly send the wrong signal to patrons that you are only nice until you collect the money. A good experience overall, but as a hotel restaurant, some little improvements need to be made to step up ahead of the game against strong Downtown competing restaurants.

The pan seared sablefish in saffron sauce, while well cooked, was relatively flavorless and the couscous unseasoned. The naan was similarly unimpressive. Definitely not made in-house. The cocktails, cappuccino, and dessert, on the other hand, were fantastic. The atmosphere of the place is quite nice, although the big screen playing sports above the bar doesn’t quite match the feel of the rest of the place. If you are looking for a happy hour destination or an after meal drink this is a good option, but I would go elsewhere for a proper meal.

Came here on a Friday night when Translink made me miss another arrangement elsewhere so decided to pop by and try their Do Ranga Stacked Sandwich. Copper chimney is located inside the executive hotel Le Soleil in Downtown Vancouver. The interior is pretty dark and gives off a romantic feel. I’d say it’s good vibe for high-class dining or for dates. They also have live music that night which makes a real difference because the singer went for a 5 minutes break and I’m like noooo, come back. So what’s in this sandwich, well there is spiced masala lamb, tandoori chicken, apple pear walnut chutney, micro greens, avocado salsa, sesame bun and spicy chips on the side with a fried jalapeño. As with all stacked sandwiches this one was piled higher than I can eat with a singular bite so I had to deconstruct this baby before devouring it bit by bit which kind of beats the purpose of a stacked sandwich, don’t ya say? Anyways, I’d say the beauty of this method allows me to taste each element on its own and also see all that’s in it. Usually in a singular bite, one or two element would overpower the rest and some of the subtle flavors of ingredients will be lost. The sesame bun had a light sweetness to it and I really liked that. It was also smeared with some apple pear walnut chutney. The tandoori chicken was placed at the top with some micro green and in the lower half there were some avocado salsa blended in with the spiced masala lamb. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry, but I still taste the tandoori dry rub on the the chicken. Overall, pretty good sandwich. Never had lamb and chicken together in one. It does tastes a lot different when eaten together especially with the micro greens since there was not much sauce and it was pretty dry. The jalapeño, though, if you can’t handle spicy do NOT attempt. The chips were good but a bit on the saltier side. I wouldn’t say this is the best Indian restaurant in Vancouver, but it’s not bad.

Disappointed with no vegetarian options. Within a year, the menu has been slashed to almost nothing. I still prefer the Copper Chimney in Worli, Bombay

Had read and heard mixed reviews about this place but my girlfriend and I were looking for Indian food nearby and found the Copper Chimney. With the décor and prices, this place attempts to do slightly upscale Indian fusion. The place was deathly quiet with no vibe even though there was a decent number of seated guests on a Sunday evening. We weren’t starving so we skipped the appetizers and ordered two mains. We ordered the sablefish and the braised short ribs. I must say the food was underwhelming. The sablefish was definitely off, it was previously frozen as it didn’t have that luscious buttery texture and flavour. Essentially, the fish was moderately mushy. The bed of couscous it was perched upon was OK, nothing special, and lacking in flavour. I was surprised to find the short rib to be dry. Such a fatty cut of meat braised in liquid shouldnt ever be dry but somehow they managed to make it dry. The short rib was served with sambal green beans and some underseasoned mashed potatoes. At $ 26 and $ 24 for the sablefish and short rib respectively, you expect the food to be at least decent. I’d rate the food alone about a 5.5÷10 but after factoring in the prices the score drops to a 4. Service was unobtrusive and slightly inattentive. I had to look around and attempt to make eye contact for about 15 minutes before I could find my server to clear our table and bring the bill. We had originally planned on having dessert but dinner was so wildly mediocre that we decided to skip it, pay, and go. It seems others have had better experiences during happy hour but unfortunately I won’t be back to give it a try.

My wife and I had a lovely dinner in this cozy place. The lamb curry was quite good, though not amazing. The tandoori salmon, though, was wonderful. Beautiful presentation, great texture out of the tandoor. I’m not sure where cumin-spiced potatoes were in my life before tonight, but those are NEVERGOINGAWAY. Naan was fluffy and fresh from the oven. Basic wine list was fine; appropriate pairing varieties from various places in the Commonwealth. Service was attentive and gracious. Would absolutely return.

Interesting little place. Too quiet — so little business it made you nervous. Tried the recommended poutine and it was fine, nothing spectacular. The lamb curry was solid and the naan was good. Attentive service because it was so dead.

The only reason why we came here was because it is attached to our hotel, and we were too lazy to walk far after walking all day. We came in during Happy Hour, which has a nice selection of appetizers and beer and drink specials. We ordered the butter chicken poutine(it comes without chicken, but you can add chicken for additional $), and for $ 5 it was HUGE and the curry was perfection with the cheese curds and fries. I also ordered a mixed green salad with lemon vinaigrette. The dressing was so bitter, that it overpowered everything, which ruined my palate. The other salad at the table was the Copper Chimney Salad, which was OK(nothing spectacular). They do have an nice selection of Tandoori and Curries. The butter chicken curry was really good, and I could have seriously just eaten that on its own. For curry, their prices are high($ 22 – 24 and entrée), so for me, this place is a bit of a splurge. The ambiance is nice, and they have an expansive seating area. It’s worth a try for their butter chicken(without chicken) poutine!

Eh, this place is okay. It’s a interesting«fusion» restaurant with a very Indian-inspired menu. We happen to go here simply because we were staying at the hotel connected to it and didn’t feel like venturing far after a long day of walking around the city. Their happy hour is what bumped this place from two to three stars for me. They don’t have a large menu, but it’s enough of a variety to please most patrons. I recommend the butter chicken poutine… although it doesn’t actually come with chicken(odd), the curry is delicious. And it naturally pairs well with cheese and fries! Here’s a tip and one I should have taken myself when we dined here… if you go to an Indian-inspired restaurant, order Indian food. Unfortunately on this particular occasion, after a day of snacking our way through the city, we decided to go light and order salads. I ended up getting the Copper Chimney salad. It was bland, lifeless, and the dressing that came with it not only was too oily, but didn’t do much to help combine the flavors of the ingredients. I’m not sure, but I think they use frozen berries as they had no flavor. Additionally, it really would have helped if the walnuts would have been candied! Needless to say, I wouldn’t order it again. The other salad we ordered was very similar in terms of the lack of balance of flavors, however, the dressing it came with was so bitter(due to too much lemon rind), I tried one bite and never went back for another. All in all, I probably would have been much more satisfied if I either a. stuck to the appetizer menu or b. ordered on of the curries on the menu.

Excellent location. The food was alright — coming to copper chimney the expectations are very high. First of al the good part — servers are great, everyone at the restaurant is very friendly — 5 star for that. Food wise — being vegetarian the options are extremely limited. Most food tasted good to average, the best plates we liked was Bombay Panini and samosa. Would consider again for snacks — but not really for lunch /dinner. Over experience was very pleasant.

A bizarre Indian fusion restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was ok and overpriced(as it goes with restaurants in hotels.) The offerings weren’t particularly creative or tasty, and the whole thing felt a bit gimmicky. I’d recommend the chicken wings, but that’s about all. Related to the hotel: the room service menu for the hotel was the same as the restaurant, which made for an untraditional room service experience. No chocolate to be had. :heartache:

It was our Saturday date night and we chose this restaurant for it’s location. I was a little surprised and interested about an Indian fusion cuisine in Vancouver for a while, but I was disappointed at the end of our meal. This place is located as part of the hotel revenue and the décors were old and traditional like the Vancouver Fairmont hotel. The only Indian cuisine distinction was the smell of curry and cumin when we arrived at the front door. As for our meal, we ordered the PEI mussels, Tandoori salmon, Lamb Lollipops and crème Brulee for dessert. My disappointment begins with the appetizer, the PEI mussels. First, the mussels were not fresh at all and with the under seasoned curry sauce, I was not impressed with the first tasting of the night. Well, as for entrees, they were equally matched. The Lamb Lollipop, we chose if because of its review and I was frustrated with the result. The meat of the lamb was weird to taste, the texture was grainy and dry. The lamb along the overpowering fenugreek yogurt marinade sauce, I could not taste the natural meat of the lamb and it was too spicy, as if they want to hide the freshness of the meat with the marinade itself. The salmon dish was also disappointing. The salmon was dry and overcooked. With the weird combo of a black mustard seed sauce, it was like the dish on the menu for customers that don’t like Indian cuisine. The Crème Brulee dessert, I was question why it’s even on the menu at all. It was blend and cold in the center, served in a soup bowl for $ 9. Well, our meals were disappointed served in a fine hotel restaurant. My experience was like having on of those cafeteria meal with over priced menu. I don’t recommend for any of friends or Unilocalers, disappointed to me.

This is a fairly regular stop in for my office lunches — special guests in town, birthdays, farewells, basically any excuse for a free lunch! It’s a great business lunch spot — food turnaround is fast, service is efficient and quiet(they never seem super keen to engage or chat), and the atmosphere is just fancy enough to make it feel special. The downsides for me are price and menu selection. I know I’m not paying(yay!) but as this is a hotel restaurant the prices are pretty outrageous(I’ve never been sure why those go hand in hand…) They do have excellent takeout specials now — a different menu item every day as their lunch tiffin for $ 9 is pretty reasonable for downtown. The menu used to have a lot more Indian food on it… It’s gone a bit fusion-y for my taste! I’m sure the tandoori fish and chips are great, but I came here for hearty, rich Indian food! Their selection of curries has gone from ok to abysmal, unless you want butter chicken. There’s no paneer on the regular menu anymore(travesty!!), and few other curries. It’s a fine spot for a fancy lunch but I’ve been disappointed the past couple of times with the selection.

Went back for their Tiffin Lunch yesterday and are happy to report that their food is as tasty as we remembered. Although the pakora curry wasn’t spicy, it was full of bold flavours from different spices. And the side salad which was slightly pickled has a nice crunch to it. It reminded us of my childhood favourite, achar — Indian pickled vegetables in a jar. I guess the one thing I didn’t care for was the double carb combo. The basmati rice was great — light, fluffy and fragrant. The naan, on the other hand, was too plain. Plain naan and a non-spicy curry unfortunately don’t rock my taste buds. Garlic naan would have been better in my opinion. Top a fairly satisfying meal with good service and a cute and environmentally friendly take-out concept, Copper Chimney could very well become a regular to-go for us. Btw, it’s $ 15 the first time because you’re paying for $ 6 for your tiffin. Then it’s $ 9 for their Tiffin menu. Monday — Friday. Will keep you posted on consistency.

Went for dinner and I was extremely extremely disappointed. The place was less than half full, so there is no reason for the waitress to be too busy for us. I had to ask about the specials, and halfway through explaining it, the waitress walked away mid sentence(she did not come back, or apologize for the sudden disappearance). I was even further disappointed when I ordered a nan sandwich(lamb) for a child at the table, and the waitress did not warn us of the high spicy level of the sandwich. It was not a tint of spiciness, but a strong distinct flavor that most waitress would warn may not be suitable for children. The nan sandwich was disgusting for adults as well. I personally love Indian and all sorts of food, but the sandwich tasted like they forgot to marinate the meat, so decided to dump a box of spice into it to make up for it. All I tasted was a mouthful of disproportionate spices. Their carrot ginger soup is also soaked in too much sugar. All I tasted was a mouthful of creamy sugar, which completely overpowered any flavor of carrot or ginger that may have existed in the soup. I was going to give 1 star, but their lamb shack was fairly tasty, although the dish is far from complete. It came with 6 lamb pieces, and 4 chunks of potatoes. I expect a better combination of food to compliment the lamb than just a few potatoes. I think this is one of the lowest rated restaurants I have ever given on Unilocal, but as you can tell, it was a terrible experience for our party.
