Dr Calland has a manner of treating animals like no other. His combination of Allopathic and Western medicine provides his patients a better chance of successful treatment to whatever ails them. Unlike all the other vets we met prior to finding Dr Calland, my dog was calm and comfortable around Dr Calland.
Three of us share ownership of Dougal our dog. Many times we had different opinions of what decisions and course of action to take. Dr Calland not only helped Dougal but also helped us come to a mutual conclusion on important decisions.
We first met Dr Calland after having little success with other vets in treating Dougal’s digestive problems.
On initial examination, Dr Calland discovered tumors on Dougal’s leg, something we had not noticed.
Further examinations with oncologist, internal medicine doctor and surgeon at Boundary Bay clinic proved that Dougal had cancer that could cut his life short. The Doctors at Boundary Bay recommended Chemotherapy and amputation. We were informed that Dougal’s life expectancy may be 8 months even after the aggressive treatment recommended.
Dr Calland provided an alternative that helped us decide to not amputate.
Soon after giving Dr Calland’s prescribed Salvestrol tablets daily to Dougal, his tumors practically disappeared. Dougal lived a happy active life 4 years longer than Boundary Bay expected. When it was time to put Dougal down, Dr Calland was very helpful kind and empathetic. It was the most difficult day of my life made better by Dr Calland’s care.
Yes he is not cheap however he is worth every penny providing what I have experienced to be the best care for my pet.

Dr. Calland allowed us the option of putting our beloved cat down in his own home rather than having his last moments be in a veterinarian’s office (no pet wants to be there). He took the time to let Seamus get to know him a little, and to get to know us a little. He was calm, kind and compassionate.
Seamus was put down in our arms in his home surrounded by his own kitty things, and that’s absolutely priceless.

Dr. Calland is nothing short of amazing. He is by far the best vet I’ve ever seen. He saved my cat Bella after she was misdiagnosed by another vet. And not only treats the problems but educates you on how to take the best care of your animals. He also has a very calm spirit about him that my kitties immediately connected with. My usually shy snowshoe siamese would not get off his feet while he examined my other cat.
He’s not cheap. But you definitely get what you pay for!
