What a hidden gem. We walked in to dinner and most of the seats were reserved. The staff made room for us three with no problems. This isn’t a family dinner place by any means but they didn’t make us feel unwelcome. The Japanese spaghetti is a must and we are kicking ourselves for not trying the desserts here. We will come here every time we are in Vancouver.

Wow I can’t believe I have never discovered this place on my own! On a rainy Wednesday night my friend and I made our way out to one of her favourite fast meal restaurants! You know me… I’m going on and on to her about how worldly I am… How I know all the decent restaurants in Vancouver! Hey man I’m a Unilocaler! You can’t surprise me! Anyways, aside from eating my meal I had to eat my words! Café de Orangerie is an «undiscovered country»(in the words of Shakespeare)! I worked out that day and I had a late lunch so I couldn’t eat too much. We shared all of these dishes… We started with the Salad Nicoise. It was wonderful! Nicely dressed and topped with a few streaks of Japanese mayo, this is a nice light and tangy salad. A good appetizer. She said she never ordered this salad before coming here with me, but she really liked it! Score 1 for me on that one! Hahaha! Next we shared the poutine. I really liked it cuz of the fries. They seem to have an extra layer of crispness! Soooo Goood! Our main course was the Massago de Creamy Spaghetti! Wow it was great! I like sprinkling of roe in the spaghetti. It just gave the dish and awesome flavour and crispness! As for dessert we were too full to eat it so we got take out(we ate them like 5 hours later). She had the Pink Grapefruit Cheesecake and I had the Matcha Red Bean cake. Really good! Service was great. The waitresses are friendly and knowledgable! No complaints in that department. Anyways, Café de Orangerie is a big 2 thumbs up! See ya there next time! Oh eating my words wasn’t that bad! She’s not the ‘I told you soooo type!’ Haha!

This café is hands down AMAZING. I’ve tried their curry poutine — which had a wonderful addictive sauce that perfectly complements their crispy fries(did you know they opened a poutinerie as well?), their masago spaghetti — with a creamy delicious squid sauce and little fish eggs that sounds weird but works so well. And their chicken nanban is divine. Perfectly crisp chicken with a sweet and sour sauce that is executed perfectly. Desserts look pretty amazing and made in house but are a bit pricy as well.

Massago spaghetti so yummy! Desert was just ok to me. Appetizer good portion for the price. Katsu curry rice was god too. Over all meal size is good for lady, probably not enough for men.

I love the pork ponzu dish and the chicken cutlet. The staff are friendly and service is usually quick. The atmosphere is calm and its dimly lit. I just wish that there was more food with each meal.

WOW the cakes were awesome! I can’t say what the cakes looks like though, because we devoured them so quickly. It’s obvious when the cream is freshly whipped. We had the strawberry shortcake and grapefruit rare cheesecake. We will be back to try the main dishes.

It is basically a Japanese pasta curry rice fusion, but I actually really love the poutine. The restaurant is quite small and I’m not sure if they take reservation, cause I just walked-in and wait outside for around 20 minutes to get the seats. I think I might come back to try their curry rice(cause I saw so many ppl ordered it last time) and the desserts. Love it

This Japanese fusion type of restaurant is a hidden gem. It was my first time to try it with my friends. We reserved a table of eight for dinner. When we arrived, we got the table. The service was okay but not great because the restaurant was busy. Waitresses were rushed to place an order for us and served other customers. They didn’t really smile when they were working. They might be working under stress. We ordered several main dishes with rice and spaghetti as well as a few dishes of desserts. Overall the food was good but I found another Japanese fusion type of restaurant called Spaghetei on Robson Street in downtown Vancouver was better. The desserts were good. It was a good place to hang out with friends or a special type of restaurant to eat out other than having burgers, Chinese food, Japanese sushi and sashimi and etc.

Cute place, good service but food wasn’t as amazing as previous reviews. Maybe I just had high expectations with all the hype. Chicken karage had too much breading for my liking. Not enough meat and not super crispy. Tasted ok. Miso sesame tuna sashimi was really good. Interesting mix of flavours that you can keep going back for bite after bite. Masago creamy pasta was very creamy and cooked well so it’s just a bit softer than all dente, which is perfect in my books, but flavour was light compared to appies. Good sized portion though and probably feel more flavorful if we didn’t have the miso sashimi. Hashed beef stew with creamy pasta and hamburg steak felt very homey. Quite flavourful but very rich. I couldn’t finish after already having appetizers. Still had to make room for dessert though, so we tried the homemade caramel pudding. Was expecting something more like the smooth one sold in stores that’s close to a flan or crème caramel. This one was not like that. More cakey with lots of air pockets so it wasn’t the luxurious smooth feel I craved. Caramel was bittersweet in just the right way as long as you don’t have too much in one bite. Overall, miso sesame tuna sashimi was the highlight but may return to try the poutine and other desserts next time. Hopefully we’ll be lucky again to get the last table and be seated right away.

This place is like a hidden gem out of no where. I wouldn’t know this place exist. Apparently, most of my friends know about this yummy fusion café. How we found out about this place is through googling. yes this place has good reviews. I ordered two dishes. One the cremy masago spaghetti and the other beef stew spaghetti. The cremy masago spaghetti was delicious. I wish it doesn’t have octopus in it then it would be a plus(nothing wrong with the octopus its just that the look of it or the tentacles are disgusting. I just don’t like things that look creepy crawly like squid, spider, octopus etc) Yes the octopus creeps me out. Well i picked them all out and the spaghetti was really cremy and has this unique seaweed taste to it or this Japanese yummy taste. Hard to describe but to sum up I love that dish. The second one was just as good the beef stew spaghetti. Beef patty very juicy. :P I wish I was hungrier when I walked into the restaurant. But again this just means I have to come back again to try other things. I also ordered their matcha green tea latte. I was enlightened. Its very refreshing. I guess I was lucky to come at the right time. So no wait but the restaurant is full house.

From the outside this place may not look like much, but their spaghetti is amazing! My favourite here is their masago de creamy spaghetti. I like my spaghetti noodles on the chewier side, which this place does. The masago spaghetti mixes a bit of savoury with some sweetness. It is also not too creamy(despite its name) and won’t make you feel bloated or feel like you had a heavy meal at the end. I’ve also tried their spaghetti carbonara, but it wasn’t as flavourful as the masago de creamy. We also got their curry with hamburger steak. I still like their spaghetti the best as their curry is a bit on the bitter side. The restaurant is quite small so make sure to reserve. They do have 1 area where they can put tables together for gatherings of 10 people max. Above that, the restaurant is likely too small to accommodate. Depending on how busy they are, they may also give you a 2-hour limit on your seating. Can’t wait to come back here for more pasta goodness!

Working out of airport square doesn’t leave a lot of options for food. But there is a little Japanese fusion place that is actually pretty good. It was my first time at this restaurant and I wasn’t too hungry, so I ordered the Chicken nanban dish. I thought the chicken was awesome but the rice wasn’t that great. I wish I could have 5 portions of just the chicken. I’ll be back to try other menu items.

This is a nice cute Japanese restaurant. We got katsu curry and hanba-gu curry pasta. Both were really good. (Pasta was not so al dente. We do not want to forget to request the pasta to be a little more al dente next time.) And the desserts. We got strawberry mu-su and berry tart. Both were not too sweet, but had very nice natural taste. The servers are attentive and very polite. The parking is free. They serve alcohol. tottemo oishikatta desu-!

Really cute little Japanese café tucked away from the bustle of Granville Street. I’ve tried the masago de creamy spaghetti(like other reviewers have said, on paper it sounds like a strange mix of flavours but really works in real life), and the spaghetti carbonera with hamburger(I wanted meat!). Both pasta dishes were very good and my friends have also tried the curry and the teriyaki and everyone found it very tasty. Service is friendly and if you’re lucky you can snag a spot in the little parking lot. If not, there’s free street parking nearby. Definitely a cute little spot to linger at over fusion food and tea!

After reading all the reviews and trying to come here twice but with no luck, friend cancelled and it was closed for holidays, but on my third try is was a charm. I finally got to try Café de L’orangie! The parking lot is small but there is plenty of street/neighborhood parking available. It’s a cute open space with tables lining the walls. The waitress was quick to greet and seat us. I started off with the London Fog. The steamed milk gave it a rich creamy taste and there was a good balance of sweetness and earl grey aroma. I would definitely come back here for their London Fog! After seeing all the photos and reviews, I decided on the Masago de Creamy Spaghetti. It took at least 20 minutes to come out(they tell you this on the menu and in person) which was fine but I can to stagger my London fog drinking to leave some with my entrée, sadly it got pretty cool by the time my pasta arrived. Regardless, the spaghetti came piping hot and it look delicious! The pasta was al denté and there was squid, mushroom, thinly sliced asparagus, onions and a sprinkle of masago. The squid was really delicious, lots of squidy BBQ flavour. Only sad part of the dish was that I was wishing there was more masago(it is MASAGO de Creamy Spaghetti) and more of the ingredient, especially squid! I felt like I had to conserve my ingredients while I ate the large plate of spaghetti. Also I wish the sauce were more creamy and less runny. Although the flavour was there, it just didn’t come full circle for me. Overall, a little disappointed by the over-hyped masago de creamy spaghetti but the dish was still enjoyable(if I didn’t think back to the raving reviews) but the London fog was really yummy. Very nice service, I would definitely come back to try their other dishes!

Hold on, what? How are all of these reviews so good? I was completely let down by this terrible café that had poor versions of both Japanese and French food. I don’t even really know how you could call this Japanese-French fusion, really. Nothing on the menu seems overpriced until you come to the realization that it all seems to be nicely presented reheated canned food. I tried four different dishes here and would avoid this place for the rest of my life. We’re in Vancouver, people… no need to suffer with subpar food.

I went here with 3 others after a long hike. It was mid-afternoon, and the place was tucked in a well-hidden plaza near the Arthur Laing bridge beside Penang Delight. The first comment I have is about the name and concept of the restaurant, which has a distinctly French name… in fact, the name would lead you to believe that it makes several products out of oranges. However, the menu is a big mismatch — I would describe their cuisine as classic Japanese-style Italian. I ordered a hamburger steak on beef hash stew spaghetti. I never really understood hamburger steak; isn’t it just a fancy way of saying meatloaf? In any case, this was ok meatloaf and the stew was ok, but it wasn’t unique by any standard. The flavour lacks a punch of citrus that usually marks a good stew… maybe they could have included an orange wedge? My sister had tonkatsu don with curry and it was an average dish. The pork cutlet was just slightly past golden brown, and tasted good. The curry was strange; it tasted like the spices were not cooked on their own before they were added to the sauce. My comparison is always to Glico curry cubes which you can buy in any store. I’m certainly not too impressed. Maybe the forte of this restaurant lies in its desserts?

Not sure why, but food on other peoples table always look so much more delicious than what we have on ours. Three times in a row too… Service is always super nice here, I find the seafood roe linguine a bit too fishy. The wa fu style spaghetti is very interesting, I think it will taste better if you add some extra cheese . The baked doria is yummy but the salad came with it was too sour Oh and the curry style poutine is … Mmmmmmm not the typical poutine you find everywhere, not my cup of tea but it’s worth trying since it’s different. And I was super surprised that the dango parfait came with icecream and HOT dango… It melted into a cup of mushy cream before I could take a photo…

Another one of my regular places I like to dine at. I’ve been here many many many many many times and was one of the original reviewers of this place in Unilocal infancy. After my Unilocal reboot of reviews, I’m happy to say that I can write about the L’Orangerie all over again with a fresh plate. This place has really evolved from it’s early days at the original location. Many people then had no idea what this place was and didn’t understand what Chef Yamamoto was trying to do here. They didn’t understand his creations of Yoshokuya and his background of working in France at a small bistro there. They didn’t understand parfait’s and the Japanese style deserts. Now they’re fully settled in at this new location and have a proper kitchen. No more hotplate cooking! I’m glad to say that they now can serve beer as well. This makes the food even better. Japanese Yoshokuya style pastas and beer. A perfect combination. I suggest to read the review and look at the pictures and give it a try. Think with an opened mind and a hungry stomach and let the tastebuds decide for you. (note: in the past, I had written 5 star reviews, but that was then when nobody know just how much this place was ahead of the curve in terms of this cuisine and foodie experience.) I’m giving it a three star review now that it is more settled and to give you a chance to read the reviews, try it and write you’re own experience. Either way, it’s all good experience for Yamato san, which he reads and then makes changes for the better. Great staff, great place great owner and great food. Typo’s free of charge with every review.

[Fusion Friday] Fusion restaurants often get a bad rep in this city but despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Café L’orangerie. Lets talk food. My favorite dish is the Masago de Spaghetti. It’s a weird combination of fish roe, squid, mushroom garnished with beans and seaweed. It’s certainly an odd combination but it works. And that’s what I love about this place. My next fave is the curry chicken cutlet. The curry is flavorful and loaded with diced veggies giving it the consistency of chunky soup. Perfect on a cold day. Desset-wise, the fondan chocolate is the way to go. It’s a baked lava cake made to order and is more satisfying than a hot bath on a cold winter’s day. Entrees range from $ 12 – 15 and desserts from $ 4 – 6. Very reasonably priced given the size and quality. The restaurant itself is tucked in a small residential neighborhood at the base of the Arthur Lang bridge. It’s very homey with seating for 40 and a few tables on a makeshift patio. L’orangerie is an excellent choice for a low-key meal. Of the three times I’ve been, it has yet to disappoint.
