I came here on a late night with friends, waiting for a late night snack. At the time, the restaurant was half full. I don’t quite remember but I think it’s two floors. At first we waited 10 minutes while the employees from both floors watched us at the door while chatting. My friends and I thought it was a joke, so we decided to leave. Right when we turn around, the chatting employee greets us. We sit down, annoyed, and read the menu. I wave to the waiter hinting we’re ready to order. He nods, finishes what he’s doing, chats with his friend, then casually walks to our table. The service stayed the same throughout the night, and because of this depressing restaurant the whole group’s mood was ruined for the night. Food was satisfactory, but service was worse than Asian-restaurant-hostesse-as waitresses’ who can barely speak English. Needless to say, won’t be coming back voluntarily even if we’re drunk(we were not); I’m sure we would still tell through the alchohol they favour Asians. My friends are not, but I’m Chinese. Everyone else in the restaurant was speaking an Asian language, so they’re just plain rude to English speaking customers, as we seemed to be the only ones who had to put up with the waiters’ attitude and judgemental stares. WEWERENOTEVENLOUDORRUDE This was our first stop, as a place to start the night, so we were all calm. This was also our last stop, with our moods dying to calmer than calm.

So what’s in the meaning of the name, Cabin 5555? Dunno, doesn’t really matter– then lunch meal we had was good. I’ve driven by and walked by this place many times. Peeked through the store front glass and looked at the menu. It’s been around for some time and so we decided to give it a try this time around since we had a few things to do I Kerrisdale. Ok, so this place seems to cater to the Asians, young and old, and menu looks pretty diverse and appetizing. Also, a large variety of bubble tea, tea, smoothies. Everything looks good on the menu, in both english and chinese. The meals we saw coming out for other patrons looked pretty yummy. We ordered our teas — iced milk tea — which was good, but just a tad too much ice for my liking. Dishes for lunch: wonton noodle soup — huge bowl with nice wontons and flat noodles instead(was expecting the typical noodles one gets with this soup), otherwise good. Coconut curry chicken rice —(advetised as hot) — pretty good, an over abundance of curry sauce for the rice, plenty of chicken. I wonder if they portion their dishes — seems like alot of chicken or one dish. Not complaining though. Also ordered 2 glasses of water(we drink alot of water…) the glasses were kid size! Kept askig for more water… they need to rethink this?! Overall, I’d go back again. It was a nice place to lunch.

I ordered a pearl milk tea with grass jelly, chicken nuggets, cold bamboo and mayonnaise, marinated large pig intestine, and a bowl of beef noodle soup. I was with a group of friends and we had just came from skating across the street. The bubble tea was just amazing. The grass jelly tasted homemade and the fact that they had cold bamboo and Japanese mayonnaise was awesome. This place is definitely the place to hit for Taiwanese snacking.

Woohoo, 100 reviews~ One of the better Taiwanese places in the Kerrisdale area. The venue is a «little» bit dirty, and the lighting is uneven throughout the restaurant. It is themed like the cabin of a jetliner, hence the name. The restaurant had a steady trickle of Taiwanese customers. That’s how you know the food is authentic. So far I’ve had several of the items here. Quality is pretty decent. The Kimchi fried rice($ 7.25) is one of my favourites. You can tune the degree of spiciness too. Today I decided to try the Taiwanese sausage fried rice($ 7.50) It’s a little on the greasy side, but this is probably why it tastes good. There are generous chunks of sausage and other bits. The drinks aren’t bad either, but I couldn’t tell if they used powder or real fruit. I’ve tried the take-out a couple of times, and both times the food was ready in under 15 minutes. What else to say? Cheap and tasty Cabin most definitely is~

This is my friend’s go-to spot, so whenever I visit her we end up eating here. I’ve ordered the pork and bamboo shoots, and the lamb fried rice. I really liked the pork and bamboo shoots, the lamb fried rice not so much. Portions are big, meaning I have a hard time finishing everything. If you get the meal it comes with 2 little side dishes plus one of those jelly cups. It comes in at under $ 10 w/o a drink. I predict I will be back in the near future!

This place was quite a bit better a year ago, but I think time has not worn Cabin 5555 well. I came here on Saturday @ 1:30pm for a late lunch. The place was fairly busy and they were down from the usual three servers, to two, so things were quite hectic in the dining room. However, the two servers left did an admirable job of pacing quickly to get orders and food to tables on time. Ordered the usual, Passionfruit green tea, Beef Noodle in soup and Three-Spice Chicken on rice. The bb-tea was fairly average, we ordered it with less ice since it was winter time and it wasn’t too sweet. The Beef Noodle soup was of decent serving size, but just didn’t look all that appetizing. The broth was a bit bland and good thing we asked for extra pickled vegetables, since it added a bit of interest to it. Three-Spice Chicken on Rice — A few pieces of chicken were a bit dry and the dish itself needed more basil, since it just looked like a bowl of brown… not very great presentation. Then again, this is just a café and I need to remind myself that. It came with a side plate of taiwanese cabbage and the usual coconut jelly for a finisher. I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars. Overall, I would eat here if I was around Kerrisdale, but wouldn’t drive here just for it.

Not my cup of tea, but it probably depends on your taste. The food is served in kitschy cafeteria-style trays, and the kitsch extends to the ambience(which is designed to seem like an airplane cabin. There are no windows out of the dining area, only trompe l’oeil paintings of aircraft windows). The food is only passable(the bubble tea seems to consist of lipton and artificial coffee sweetener), and the service is blasé to the point of insolence. Will not return.

It’s good bubble tea place to go(typical taiwanese bubble tea shop. They have free wi-fi. The food was ok and the portion quite small. We ordered few things to share: cold cucumber in garlic sauce — not tasty but nice to start with pork, cabbage in chili sauce — oily and not too hot with chili sauce kung po chicken with peanuts — very spicy and a lot of dry red pepper with chicken. They have free wi-fi.

* 10, 20, 5555, Hike! * I’ve never seen so many football player sized waiters in a single restaurant. Is there a Taiwanese football team that requires all of its players to work here or something??? Perhaps that also explains the large number of all female tables? I ordered the Taiwanese chicken nugget lunch combo: — 1st Down: The chicken was overly oily, but it had fried sprigs of basil which were a nice touch. 3 stars. — Fumble: The rice was overcooked, but had a nice meat sauce. 2 stars for the rice, 3 for the sauce, 2.5 overall. — Blocked kick: The side of potato salad was too mayoey(is that a word!!!) but had a nice surprise of fresh cucumbers diced into it. 2 stars. — Field goal: The side of stewed cabbage and carrots was actually the best thing overall. It had a nice rich flavour and was perfectly cooked. 4 stars. — Completed pass: The lunch also came with a bite sized coconut jelly still in the wrappers like you get at any Asian market. Odd to give it wrapped like that. But a sweet bite to end the meal. 3 stars. — Recovered fumble: Service was a bit sporadic. I never was much of a football fan.

This is a Taiwanese Noodle/Bubble Tea place. It is located at Kerrisdale on West Boulevard near 38th Ave. It is a gem of the neighbourhood. The menu for hot/cold drinks is extensive, 50+ selection. The regular food menu offers many good comfort food. I like the Beef noodle which is a large large bowl for under $ 7. Parking is meter parking in front or private parking on the other side of the street. The rate is only $ 0.5 per hour and is reimbursable by Cabin 5555. I have gone to this place for over two years now. The service is okay and sometimes under staff because it is a busy place.
