The Bike Kitchen is like Our Community Bikes, only way better. They provide tools and instruction for you to fix your own bike if you’d like to learn, and it’s never too busy that you have to wait for instruction or a stand. If you’d rather just drop your bike off and have someone else fiddle with it, they do that too, at a very reasonable price. If you need new parts, they’ve got a bunch and they’ll order whatever you need. If you need a new bike, they do sell some but their collection isn’t huge. You can always sell your bike back to them for half the price you paid for it, plus the cost of any repairs, which can make it a cheap deal if you essentially need a long-term bike rental. These guys are just the friendliest, nicest bike mechanics I’ve ever met. Worth the trek out to UBC!

If you can find this place, then you won’t be dissapointed. There’s a sign outside next to the Student Union Building, but its located in the basement so it tends to go unnoticed. Know everything about bikes? This is totally the place for you. Know nothing about bikes and get super nervous around cocky bikers who know too much? This is also the place for you. I like this place because it doesn’t matter how much or how little you know about bikes, they will give you the best advice. Contrary to Our Community bikes they will not force you to fix or build your own bike. If you are ADD and hate getting your hands dirty they will do it for you with a smile on their face. They also won’t try to sell you something you don’t need. All the mechanics/employees I’ve dealt with have been nothing short of fabulous. If you are at UBC or in the area on bike, I definitely recommend checking them out.
