Brought the kids all gas we were visiting Toronto and we were so happy to find this just around our hotel and have waiters here that were very accommodating and helpful. We were impressed by the selection of beers offer and we’re happy with our lighter German beer we chose. Ordered children serve of homemade lasagna and it was really good, came with a huge side of ceased salad. Both kids shared and it was enough for them. The waiter recommended chicken snitzel. The snitzel came with a huge serve of fries and just boiled broccoli and carrots. We were not very impressed by it. Fries were oily and sauggy, just boiled vegetables, at least the snitzel was alright. Neighboring tables had a pot of mussels, and it looks sooo much better! Our highlight got to be our entrée — grilled calamari. It was really well cooked and flavor was just spot on! Ambience was really nice, loud, cosy. But sitting indoor, it would have been nice to have some ventilation or air conditioning. Being a humid day, it was really hot indoor! That itself causes my only 4star rating

Only my favourite gastropub! Great selection of beers on tap(mostly European — but some from NA too). I love their grillhaxe(German style roasted pork knuckle), their steak is pretty good though they recently raised so it’s not as good of a deal. Most other menu items are quite good as well(with the exception of their burger which tends to be overcooked/dry).

I very much enjoyed my visit here: solid 3.5 stars. I came here so I can try their schnitzels. I got the chicken with sauce and it was tasty. The food is great but the overall restaurant feel was VERY crowded. Food: 4/5, the cutlet I got as well the sides were delicious and I would return just for the food. Service: 3/5, not much as due to the crowded nature of the restaurant, it’s not easy for the waiter/waitresses to get to you. Ambiance: 3/5, while the décor and music is nice; the seating is terrible and you are such close proximity to the other patrons that you can hear everything they are saying as well. Not sure this is a great dinner joint. Price: 3/5, around $ 17 – 20 per person which ain’t bad for a place like this.

Enjoyed the food, drinks, staff, and company. It’s across the street from Hooters Downtown Toronto.

Wow, great spot! 50 beers on tap from Canada and European countries. I found Fuller’s Black Cab stout on the list, a brew I had not experience since I was in London in 2011. My dining friends enjoyed Belgian, German and Danish options. For dinner, my hubby chose the pork knuckle. Our friend, the steak and frites since his wife doesn’t eat red meat. Me, wanting some vegetables to balance the beer went with the Town Crier salad. It gave me the chance to try the German Chicken Sausage without the heavy mashed potatoes(which weren’t heavy at all). Since the spot is within walking distance to our hotel, I suspect we might be back before the weekend is out.

We’ve been to the TC about 5 times before and loved it each time; food os pretty darn good! But tonight was a near disaster. I work in the service/hospitality industry, and I preach to my staff that a great atmosphere may bring someone in once, but great service will keep the coming back again and again. The whole time we sat there tonight, our waiter, «P», sat outside the kitchen door looking perturbed and bothered as if we were infringing upon his personal time. Each time we had a question, it was like we had asked to borrow a kidney; simply put, he couldn’t be bothered. Now service aside, TC is known for their extensive beer list, and I get it when a restaurant runs out of things; it happens! But I wanted my friend to try Lindemams, and they were out of the first two I asked for. My buddy got fed up and asked for brandy, and I switched to scotch. Wouldn’t you know it, the first two I asked for were out! When I finally found a scotch they did have, the amount«P» poured in my glass was barely as deep as two of the lines of this text; forget«two fingers»…it was half of one. I’m sure we’ll go back, but I do hope management reads this and makes a small adjustment. I know we will by not sitting in his section anymore!!!

Wow. So it took 20 minutes to order a beer. Then we managed to pick 7 beers they didn’t have any more. When I tried to pick another one the waiter ran off and finished a couple of other orders before I even got to order a beer they had while my friend drank his beer. Been a long time since I was that disappointed in service. 30 minutes of my life. And a beer I didn’t like. Oh well. Best of luck when it’s busy!

Very good selection of imported beer from all over the world. All beers are served in their proper glass from the manufacturer. Cozy, but loud atmosphere. I would go again.

I’m by no means a beer expert, and what initially drew me to Town Crier last summer was its busy patio and varied menu selection. The food here is definitely tasty and comforting; I tried a schnitzel on my first go, featuring a side of delicious frites; a few weeks later, I ended up trying their delicious pear/goat cheese salad(note: it’s a seriously large portion that costs just over $ 10 — can’t go wrong). Their staff is remarkably knowledgeable about the breadth of beers they carry. During my second visit, I decided to branch out a bit and the server confidently recommended different beers to my partner & I. As a ‘non-beer drinker’ of sorts, I believe I had a concoction which featured strawberry beer and fruit… surprisingly refreshing & light for a summer beverage. On our second visit, we chose to sit inside for some quiet and the waiter was attentive and polite, without interrupting too much. The staff were super flexible when additional friends joined our party an hour or so later.

Amazing selection of beers and the walk down into the basement and cozy couches gave me the feeling of being back in Belgium! Definitely one of the better bars in the area — especially when you compare it to all the chains on that block.

Town Crier is a small, yet has a warm and cozy feel. It has a wide selection of beers, some of which are very intriguing(like a $ 22 Belgian beer for example). Although I’m not a beer drinker myself, I had myself a fine cabernet sauvignon. The food selection is quite small in my opinion. I had some kind of sausage with mashed potatoes, which tasted average. If you’re looking for a cozy, after-work pub bar with lots of beer but don’t mind the somewhat pricey food and drinks, Town Crier would ideal. Otherwise you’re better off a Fox and Fiddle or even Jack Astors.

The Town Crier is a great little pub near John and Richmond that has a massive amount of beers on tap. Sister establishment to The Village Idiot and Sin & Redemption, you can expect pretty much the same atmosphere and extensive beer selection, along with decent pub food(think Belgian frites, German sausage and your regular pub staples). During the Summer months, the patio is always full here and the service is reasonably fast. There is also a large seating area upstairs, if the main floor is empty. As I mentioned, there are a ton of different beers available on tap(50 at last count) including some hard-to-find options. The menu is a bit bewildering so feel free to ask your server for their recommendations. Overall, an excellent choice for an after work or evening drink with a bite to eat. The prices are pretty reasonable too, which is hard to find in this area.

This place was great! Many different kinds of beer! Tap and bottle. We didn’t try any food. We had an excellent waiter who recommended some great beers. This is a great spot to go and talk with friends over beer.

Town Crier occupies a really good location on John Street. It has a really fabulous selection of beers, particularly of those from German or Belgium. The inside décor is nice, and it has one of the best though with rather cramp in seating of any sidewalk patio in town. Its menu is wide ranging and I found the quality of food to be rather good, however, the best are those that are German or Belgium; it’s their specialty. So for food I’d be incline to skip the lasagnas or raviolis concentrating more upon the schnitzels, spatzles or any of those being more German or Belgium.

Ahhh. the Crier! A solid pub that my co-workers and I are actually regulars at. I’ve been to the sister bars to this(The Village Idiot and Sin & Redemption) and over all the owners really know what they are doing. In my opinion one of the best international selection of beers in the city. If you love German beers like me this is the place to go for sure. They have two floors and a great patio so there is usually always seats here. This is a great place for a date or even to go for supper as the food is pretty decent too! Just be careful on a Jays game night as the crowds get bigger and louder those nights(But yay Go Jays) Cheers!

I came to this place yesterday night. I like this place because they have many different beers to try. You can pick many beer some times it is confusing and they beer you pick you might not like. But once you find you beer you will be coming here over and over as these beers are way better than the normal beers you get from other pubs. my favorites is kasteel dark it is 11% beer and damn it is sooooo good. I have been hooked on this beer since I tried it. Everyone should give it a try o made. Many friends to try it and they loved it as well.

German and Belgian beer sold here… Nuff said. I have been told about Belgian beer and their awesome taste for quite a while. We all got Kasteel and it was amazing. Not cheap though. Place is crowded so try to stay close to the window…

Food was ok. Good location. A bit overcrowded, they sure squeezed in as many tables as possible. I guess that’s a good thing or else i’d be sitting inside. Ok service. Great selection of beer and reasonably priced. One of the better spots in the area.

Very cute pub with a great selection of beer from all over the world. Beers are decently priced, 7 – 8 $ for a specialty beer. They also have great delicious poutines!
