Gord and I went to Toronto Oktoberfest yesterday afternoon. We’d never been before. It was from 11:30am to 5pm and we got there about 12:30ish. It was held in a tent that held about 1,500 … apparently this afternoon there were about 1,000. We were given a giant beer stein when we got there. Gord had bought ten drink tickets online … they were $ 8 each rather than $ 8.50. I had four tickets and he had six. One ticket got you a half stein and two tickets got you a full stein(we got half steins). I liked all the beer I had. I started with a Oktoberfest beer from King Brewery at the Weihenstephaner booth(it was my fav of the day). Then I had a Hofbräuhaus München. Then I had a Carlsberg. My last was a Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest beer. The George Kash Oktoberfest Express Experience provided the music and entertainment all afternoon. They played a variety of tunes(polka, old cover tunes, etc.) and encouraged everyone to dance … and they did. George not only downed a full stein of beer but he later drank shots of Jägermeister while doing a headstand! Volkstanzgruppe Almrausch, group of local dancers, performed traditional Bavarian folkdances. They also encouraged audience participation It never seemed crowded and everyone seemed to have a fun time. There were lots of portapotties outside and there was never a line-up. We got a bite to eat later on. Gord bought a chicken schnitzel($ 10). He said it was good. I got a bratwurst($ 9) and it wasn’t that great. Plus I thought $ 9 was a lot for what I got. I bought some beer nuts($ 5) and they were good. It was a fun time and I look forward to going next year!

Oktoberfest celebration right at St Lawrence Market! For 2 evenings, St Lawrence Market has transferred into a German Beer Hall. Free flowing beers from local: Creemore/Thornbury and from Germany/Poland/Belgium. Traditional Oktoberfest entertainment and Agros’ Cheerleaders are there to perform their routine. All the participates seems to have a great time, including myself! Hopefully there will be a Toronto Oktoberfest next October again! Food choices though are limited, the warm beer nuts though quite enjoyable. Closing Session on Friday ended pretty early as it needs to be cleared out by 12:30 am…
