Sun King Cleaners

This place completely destroyed the clothes and carpet that I sent for cleaning. Buttons on my sweaters came back chipped, my dark red persian rug has a large light spot on it, and my blazer came back with a mark on it that they said they couldn’t get out even though it was just milk. Definitely would not recommend. I was charged in full for the clothes that they ruined.

The staff always have taken care of my clothing with great attention to detail, and always cheery! Thanks guys! J.U.

This place is in my neighbourhood and the people who worked here seemed really friendly so I paid for a VIP membership a few years ago so that I could save money each time I come in. Biggest regret! I am scared to bring my clothes in to them now because they routinely come back in worse shape than before (splattered with chemicals, strange new stripes on my silk shirt, missing buttons, stains untouched). Also, clothes are often not ready days after they are supposed to be and when they do finally arrive they often have to be sent back for a subsequent cleaning because of mistakes. This is a waste of my time and hard on the clothing too. The staff always have a lot of excuses for the various mishaps and act sorry but the quality control is so poor and the deliveries so unreliable that it is clear that the issues I’ve had with this place are more than just bad luck. It is also fairly expensive for such a shoddy service. I will now go out of my way to Liberty Village for future dry cleaning to avoid this place. I signed up for Unilocal specifically to write this review because I am so frustrated. Consider yourself warned!

Just knocking it down a star after taking my favourite dress here with specific instructions to get out some stains. It looks the same as when I took it in. I wouldn’t mind so much if they had done what other places will sometimes do, and cop to the fact that they weren’t able to get it out. At this point I wonder if I just paid for them to hold onto the dress for a couple days.

Initially I was sad to hear that an independent dry-​cleaning store had been taken over by a chain. However my inhibitions were dispelled as soon as I stepped into the store and a friendly staffer greeted me family style. I don’t go to that place frequently (I end up accumulating big batches) but I am surprised that she remembers my «foreign» name each time while I routinely forget hers. :(
Over a period of time I have noticed them pushing some corporate strategies. For example, several months ago they came up with a discount pre-​paid card (it’s a gift card) and they charged me HST on that. I had to go back with a copy of the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 which clearly states that stores cannot charge HST on the sale of a gift card, and then charge HST once again when you are using that card to pay for services (double taxation). It took them a couple of days to respond but I was satisfied. Recently they have started some other campaign for 10% discount and you get a complimentary laundry bag.
Clothes sent for dry cleaning used to come back crisply ironed but now the job looks quite sloppy. I hope they do not get increasingly capitalist and end up focusing on profits alone at the cost of quality.
However, just because the staff is extremely friendly, I keep going back!

Good and friendly service. I haven’t met the gentleman mentioned in the other reviews so I’m not sure if he still works there.
The only downside is that you need to bring your clothes in before 4−5pm to get the 2 business days dry clean service, otherwise you have to pay 50% more for «rush» or wait 3 days.

All I can say is «awesome»! This place is my dry cleaning savior.
I originally brought my Canada Goose to dry clean at a local dry cleaner but what I got back was a white jacket with a huge gray chemical stain all over my right pocket and along the hem! I asked for it to be redone but after two days, the owner said there’s nothing they can do about the stain and I should just live with an atrocious gray blotch on my shiny white jacket. Imagine my discontent…
Thankfully a friend recommended me to this place. The owner took one look at it, and said «no problem! You’ll get it back good as new in a few days». Lo and behold, my jacket came back as if this whole mishap never happened, good as new if not better.
Now, I only put my faith in Sun King and no one else. I HIGHLY recommend this place!

I have nothing but great things to say about this Sun King Cleaners location. I have had a lot of alterations done there and never had any complaints. Alterations prices are a lot lower than most other places and they do the best work.
The girl who does the alterations is usually on site during the week and she is the best. She is super friendly and knows the answers to any question you can come up with about altering your clothing.
I one time took a pair of pants in to have the legs tapered down a bit and when I picked them up there was a little note pinned to the pants letting me know that I forgot a streetcar token in the pocket so she put it in a little plastic baggie to make sure I got it back. How nice is that?!
I recently took a pair of jeans to Studio Kim on King St W which was a lot closer to my house and came highly recommended and they hemmed the legs 2″ shorter than I had asked them to. I instantly regretted not taking them to Sun King.
Even if its out of your way to go to Parkdale it will be worth it in the end.

Love this dry cleaner shop! Great service, great people, quality sewing service and always friendly. Also, if there’s the tiniest of stains on the shirt after cleaning, they always do another go and call you to let you know. Now that’s what I call service.

This place is run by the gentlemen who had been running his own independent place called ‘queen cleaners’ a few doors east.
fortunately he brings all the goodness of his indie shop as he still has great attention to detail and the alterations are extremely high quality.
i’ve used to the other sun king cleaners and they really are forgettable, but not this one. highly recommend.
