This place seems beautiful. The Spiritual head, an important man. But he is a miserable soul. And like him, this place is wretched to the core. It is a religion with a wrathful god. A religion that has ruined lives. Why else is there is there a Kadampa Survivors Group? I would stay away if i were you.

I like it. Everything is in English; books, classes and retreats. You decide the class or practice you want to pursue, or can ask for advise on which ones to take. Some cost no $, some have a minimal charge. Very open about it, and its inexpensive when there is a charge(less than a movie ticket, which is my benchmark). I also like a sign indicating everyone is welcome, Buddhists and non Buddhists alike. They teach you to meditate at your own speed, and if you don’t go back nobody puts any pressure on you. I don’t like that there is very little parking around the area, so sometimes I end up having to park blocks away, or pay at the commercial ones.

the Kadampa centre is a temple about a particular faith, Buddhism along the New Kadam path. I don’t believe it is a cult, as Brian D. says, but it is about a faith and meditation structured along that faith. The Shambhala meditation Centre on Bloor offers open mediation most days, the Kadampa centre’s general classes are structured around Buddhist teachings. Hope this helps.
