If you’re a restaurnateur, I imagine this place is great for you. As a lowly regular person I don’t think I’ll be back. I called ahead to see if they had the item I was looking for — a chain mail oyster shucking glove if you’re curious — and they said they did — they said it cost $ 23 which surprised me because the other places I’d been to said they’d run me upwards about $ 150. So I spent my lunch hour on a beautiful day walking over there only to find myself ignored for over 20 minutes while the staff was on the phone with other customers and catered(ha! that’s my pun for the day) to their other customer who was clearly a regular who probably spends a lot and comes back frequently. No one said hi, no one said they’d be with me soon, I tried getting someone to talk to me and they looked away to not acknowledge me and another walked right past looking at me like I was an unfortunate street urchin who just peed in the corner(I hadn’t, I assure you). I found what I assumed to be what they were talking about in stock — which I’d seen other places and not wanted — a mesh glove, that wouldn’t save you from a paper cut much less an oyster pick and nothing else in stock I could see. It did in fact, cost $ 23 for whatever that’s worth. Fortunately the guys in the George Brown College supply store across the street suggested I go to St. Lawrence market where I was helped and found what I needed. I will not go back to Dinetz.

What I especially appreciate about Dinetz is that they are one of those kitchen stores that have oodles and oodles of stuff. And not just gadgets and wooden spoons, mind you, but also industrial deep friers — which I really really really need. *insert day dreaming bubble over my head* Wow, what could I do with an industrial deep frier in my apartment? Well, we don’t have a bbq so technically we could toss it on the deck and have everything deep fried up there. Oh, and then I could deep fry everthing. I’ve always been curious about deep fried Mars bars. I wonder if I could deep fry the dog’s kibble… Ok, back to reality. Really, other than industrial type things, the best part about this place is that it’s large and therefore not completely jam-packed like a lot of other kitchen places. Plus, they have handy knife guards for your knives for when you taking cooking classes at the fabulous George Brown College!
