If you are looking for a get-away in the middle of the city, the Albany Club delivers. The chef, Jay, is world class at the Albany Club. He and his team can prepare steak to perfection, even for a large group, and prepare some of the best carpaccio, of many different kinds of meat, that I have tasted. They also do tasty, juicing, ribs and chicken, and a wonderful Cobb salad as it should be prepared. The wine selection at the Club is extensive, and the house wine varies with the season so we always have something new and fresh to enjoy. The ambiance of the Club is peaceful and relaxing, and it is easy to encounter old friends and make new ones at any time of day. The Albany Club is a great place to dine, socialize, or work.

Let me begin by saying I would give this club 1 – 2 stars for food and drink, it would receive four in terms of its appeal as a relic of a bygone era; one in which, gentlemen sipped scotch by the fire, and electricity was a newfangled notion, secondary to candlelight. The wainscotted walls, winding stairs and warrens of small rooms leading into one another, higgledy piggledy, with staunch conservative faces looking on from the walls(and the chairs) and various Canadian Tory memorabilia hither thither, are fantastic– if that’s your sort of thing. Even the elevator is of the old-fashioned variety, with a cage and an only very recently retired operator. All in all, if you’ve got to go for a conference, a meeting or a tete a tete, dress conservatively and possibly have a bite before.
