Moxie’s Grill & Bar

Two nights in town, ate here both nights. First night a great classic burger (a little too gooey with special sauce, which I’d hold next time) with fresh seared green beans. (My fork kept slipping off the odd-​shaped plate and into my lap. Ask for a standard plate!) Second night salmon avocado Cobb with soft-​boiled egg– almost licked the plate. Attentive, warm waiter let me taste wine first. I was a solo diner so enjoyed the vibe and flattering lighting and, even though I didn’t stay at the hotel, could imagine dining here more nights after hard days working.

Disappointing to come for a 2^nd visit to find out the drafts are still down. Bottled beer was not even cold. Completely brought my mood down this evening. How can the bartender cough away in his hand while putting glasses away and delivering food. I should have stayed at my hotel. Definitely nothing like the Moxie’s back home in Toronto.

Had an amazing time with family, the food was delicious and the service was great. We will be back.

This was a glorious surprise! It was our 1^st time in and we were shocked by how good the food was, the ambience, and the service.
If you like the cactus club, this is equal or even better to cactus but you have a much more variety in choices.
I ordered the 7oz sirloin with a twice baked potato and seasonal vegetables– delicious!
We will definitely go back to this place. It is near the guildford mall so if you are going shopping before or after, this is definitely the place to eat!

Moxies is my favourite restaurant! Their beef vindaloo is to die for. I always ask for it extra spicy! And their bellinis are perfectly refreshing.
Friendly staff, amazing dinners.

Located within the Sandman Hotel. Restaurant was pretty quiet on a weeknight.
I settled on a salmon and avocado cobb salad, which ended up to be more like a wedge salad. Tasty in any case.
Good drink selection and menu.

Pretty standard Moxies here. Service was pretty good but the food was less than spectacular. Would not go here again.

The evening service was great. Bar staff fabulous.
Then we came the next morning. Meh is about the best I can give. We were seated quickly but said we were in a hurry. Ordered and got our coffee. Then there we sat. No refills on coffee (after requesting) and no food for quite some time. In fact, we almost left when food arrived and had to get in to-​go boxes. If they were busy, I would understand, but they weren’t. They were so not busy, I saw hostesses and wait staff just hanging out and not getting new customers at the door. In fact, new customers had to come find somebody to be seated. A chance to stellar service was missed, by a long shot.
However, the food was good. So expect good fare and not so good service, maybe you’ll be surprised and get better service than we did.

Definitely a big place. They also have a nice patio upstairs.
The staff is really friend and a nice. The service is good, but the food can be hit or miss, it really depends on what you order.
The best thing on the menu is probably the dessert menu. They have some really good dessert options that won’t disappoint you at all.

Phenomenal lunch today! We took my boyfriend’s mama out for her birthday meal.

I had the chicken quesadilla — awesome side salad with cranberries, feta and cherry tomatoes. Lots of fresh chicken inside. Delicious, spicy salsa.
Boyfriend’s rib dinner looked great, yummy sweet BBQ sauce! They kindly added more bacon to his baked potato at no extra charge. Most awesome!
His mama’s steak was cooked to perfection and veggie side was huge! Probably 2 cups of vegetables if you chop it down.
Desserts were also amazing — big love for the salted caramel cheesecake and vanilla ice cream!
I want to return SOON for a steak of my own ;)

Very friendly and nice meal but if you aren’t «lounge» age there are no wheelchair friendly tables. Your option is to go sideways at the end of a booth– 6 of us at a booth for 4 was the best option :(

I am a veteran at this Moxies. I have converted many non-​dessert people and introduced the dark world of the White Chocolate Brownie.
Here’s a tip ask for the toffee caramel on the side (You won’t be disappointed ;). You’re welcome.)
The service is pretty good and they will do what they can to ensure you have a good time and meal there. The honey sirloin is pretty fantastic and I find myself always having that when I go to this location.
Price I would say it is in the mid-​range, I usually spend about $ 25 going there. The atmosphere is great at this location and the lights are dim, makes a great place for conversation and gossip.
Last tip: Moxie’s offers the bite size of the White Chocolate Brownie or the whole one. I would suggest splitting the whole one with someone as the price different is only about 3 dollars or so. Well worth the whole thing :)~.

Wanted to follow up on my earlier review… after posting my complaint on here they did contact me and were very kind and tried to rectify the situation. As you can see one of my complaints was not hearing from them after writing a review on their facebook page — they explained this by saying they don’t have someone checking this page regularly… unfortunately if you have the page and a review section this should be a priority! I respect that they did follow up eventually though and hope that service will be better in the restaurant in the future

The food is rather bland and salty. We ordered double cheese nachos and lemon pepper haddock. The nachos were loaded with flavourless cheese and the entire plate tasted bland. The lemon pepper haddock had no trace of lemon or pepper, just lots and lots of salt. The pile of spinach and mashed potatoes were so salty, it was difficult to stomach (not to mention it’s not good for your health). Overall I liked the ambiance and the service, but I could never eat the food there again.

Due to the following I gave this Moxie‘s a low rating and would never go back…
Group ordered 2 plates of enchilada‘s and the chicken inside was still cold. manager (kaylie) came apoligized tried to be rather upbeat and said those dishes were on the house. The second sets were done better chicken wise however lacked certain ingredients because they were out (which we were not told about prior to ordering)
BUT … when the bill came we were still charged the enchiladas and the manager back tracked on her word, she said since we ordered desert she took care of that… mind you we had 2 orders of enchiladas that were messed up she only took care of 1… when we did ask her why she told us she would cover them she back pedaled and said oh no what i meant was i would take a few dollars off if you didnt order dessert. Paying was not an issue however the lack of character and ones word left a sour taste behind.
Would never go back, for the amount we spent we could have gone somewhere downtown vancouver had better food and better service!!!
The only reason I gave 2 stars is because of the brownie.

Moxies on 152 used to be good, but they changed their menu a while back and the food really sucks now. Service is as hit or miss as anywhere else these days.
Update Oct 2012: Went back to Moxies for a birthday party there. The restaurant was empty, but the service was very slow.
The food was nothing to write home about, I had the veal bocconcini pasta which tasted like Chef Boyardee’s finest.

We finished up presenting to our group a little early and decided to have a quick bite before driving home to the Okanagan. Moxies was a little tough to get to from the east side of 152^nd but worth figuring out.
Lisa was our server and brought a great attitude along with even better service.
If you are stopping for lunch, ask to sit in Lisa’s section.
