I have been coming to Greenland for years now, to buy flowers for my containers, and also every Christmas to pick up some new ornaments. This is definitely one of my favourite greenhouses, and my all time favourite place to buy tree decoartions. Lots of unique finds. It’s pricey so I just buy a little bit each year.

Wow! Came to Greenland Garden Centre this summer after winning a gift certificate from CISN radio. How had I not come here before?!? This place is AH-MAZING! If you want the quality of Hole’s/Enjoy Centre but at a slightly lower price with WAY more variety — this place is for you! The layout was perfect and easy to navigate. There was loads of staff anywhere you turned. From trees, to perennials, to annuals, to shrubs, to herbs(lemon mint for my mojito and spicy basil for my curries, yes please) to trinkets for your fairy garden — this place is off the hook! I will most definitely be returning here every year to get my green thumb on even if it is an hour drive for me! Hopefully, the Henday completion to the Park will help speed this up once finished.

When I first moved to Alberta, it took me a little while to get my gardening mojo back. I mean, you don’t just move from one of the hottest climates in the world to one of the coldest with no growing pains. I watched my mother-in-law working on hers, asked questions of just about everyone I knew, and puttered a bit. The main thing they taught me? Wait until Victoria Day long weekend to plant anything. Coming from a place where I can start breaking ground in January, you can see I had a lot to learn. One day, someone told me about Greenland, and I finally made the voyage out to Sherwood Park last summer to visit. Oh squeeeeeeeeee! After the limited options available at the big box hardware stores and Apache Seeds, this place was a breath of fresh air. Annuals, perennials and bulbs, oh my! In addition to oodles of varieties of any possible plant you can imagine, they also carry tools; bagged goods like compost, mulch, and fertilizer; pond supplies; garden décor like statues, sundials and plaques(perfect for prettying up the place!); topiaries; lotions, potpourri, candles and other fragrant inside doo-dads; books on gardening; and they have a garden café, where you can take a break for a latte and a sandwich while you’re shopping. The selection is amazing and well marked, so you can see what zone your new baby likes best and cater to that location(zone 3, shade lover, that sort of thing). It’s hard to screw up with such good markings. If you’re still having problems, sign up for one of their classes so you can become an even better gardener. And best yet, sign up for their club, so you get great deals on Greenland merchandise. I haven’t been at Christmas yet, but I’ve heard the place is all fixed up in its Yuletide finery, and quite a gorgeous sight. Yes, it’s out of town, but the selection and deals definitely make it worth the trip. If you’re coming from Edmonton, get off the Yellowhead at Clover Bar, and head north of the highway. You’ll see it off to the left.
