I hate being harassed by sales people while I am browsing. An employee approached me within two minutes of walking through the door and asked if I needed help. I let him know I was browsing and didn’t need assistance. Literally every time I walked into a new aisle(every three minutes or so) he came and asked if I needed help again and told me to come get him as soon as I was ready to purchase something. He must have been hard up for commission or something. Anyway, I found the product I was looking for and it was supposed to be 10% off for two days only. He takes me to his register and rings it in and it’s full price. I can’t be bothered to argue so I pull out cash to pay for it. Then he gets angry because I am paying cash. Sorry buddy, maybe you should have asked. He takes me to the front to pay. Mysteriously when the lady at the front cash rings it in the 10% discount has applied itself.

I did not really do my actual shopping in Future Shop. I was just here for a internet order pick up. Maybe I would get better service if I had purchased my TV directly from a Sale Associate. I was not offered any help to load my TV in the car until a more senior staff saw me struggling with my purchase. The cashier that cashed me out did not even look at the total purchase price on my invoice and wanted to charge me more based on the sale price that day instead of the actual price I placed my order which is $ 50 more and even told me that it was the extra Environmental fees. Staff just have this I don’t want to be here vibe… I hope they might not have a job if people just buy everything from internet if we never get any real customer service anyway!

Future Shop is a general consumer computer and home electronics chain. I have shopped at this retail location many times, from TV to software to large appliance The general experience is that Future Shop tries to be too many things at the same time. While they try to carry the most popular products, they still stock some unsold old inventory that I don’t understand why they still carry them(like old CDs, DVDs, software). The computer hardware section is fine, and there are many salespeople helping if you go on a weekday. It can be hard to find help in weekends. The HW pricing, however, is not competitive against Tiger Direct or Canada Computers. The SW section is a joke unless you are looking for the most general consumer oriented type software, such as income tax SW, Window operating system, anti-virus SW, etc. The SW pricing is okay enough, however. The selection of large appliance is fine, but the delivery time of 1 month is a joke. I placed an order for a fridge once, and I ended up cancelling the order and bought from Sears instead, because they could deliver within 7 days. The selection of small home appliance(fans, vacuum cleaners, etc.) is a joke. The home electronic section(TV, small and large stereo systems, etc) focuses on the most common products. If you are looking for TV, it has a decent selection and pricing. However, if you are looking for a stereo system, they don’t have the expert products. Having said all that, I still like FS and shop here a lot. FS has so many stores; retail distribution is definitely its strength. I fully understand its general consumer orientation, and that it has a width of selection not a depth of selection. I simply head to other specialty stores if I want some niche stuffs.

Needed a wireless router bad. Thought that Future Shop would be better than Best Buy because I’d be supporting a Canadian business. Wikied Future shop and found out that Best Buy owns it. Why do I try? Easy to use, lots of people helping. Not bad.
