I had a really fun time at this UYE. Unfortunately a couple mistakes with who ordered what brought this from 4 to 3 stars, but overall I was satisfied with the food and service. The servers were very nice and obviously tried hard to keep us pleased. They brought out a few appetizer-type dishes on the house and they were both quite tasty. Tomato salad with some mushroom and sauces, and a fried chicken dish that was excellent. For my meal I had the Tan Tan Noodles with a peanut soup base. The overall dish was good, but the peanut flavour was very pronounced and rich. It took a little getting used to, but was tasty nonetheless. Had a great time, can’t wait to do it again!

Big ups to the homie Larry for organizing this UYE! This was my first time attending and i had a great time meeting new Unilocalers and just taking about food! :)(my favorite subject!!) Mind you im not a Ramen fan myself, im more of an Izakaya kind of guy. The marinated grilled gizzard, beef tounge. cow uterus. mmmmm now that’s what im talking about!.. but sadly none of that was on the lunch menu :(*SNIFF* so i ordered the unagi don. tasted a little fishy but oh well… i had great time nonetheless. I hope to be a part of many UYE’s in the near future :)

*It sucked, waste of time, this is for you Larry!* You did mention this at the end when we huddled outside like a bunch of gangsters waiting for our next meet up(Asian film moment!). As the ‘ring leader(Larry)’ told us to write up something, as this event had it’s own page. It was a great time with a bunch of Unilocal’ers to kick off the start of their ‘new’ lunch time opening here at NanChuu. We had the two big back tables to our group, and Larry has to be commended for all his efforts in organizing this with the people who work here, and to get all our butts out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It worked, and we were pretty stuffed. The place also provided us some appetizers that may have made us think about the food the next time we are to come again to order. The fried chicken pieces stole the show, as me and Wendy kept on getting are hands on any that were left. My order of the Tan Tan noodles was very peanut buttery, filling, and I was stuffed. I carried on some great conversation at the table, mostly of video game geekness, but, hey, that is me! This UYE introduced us to a good ramen place, for those who do not want to duke it out at the end of Robson and Denman, at the same time, to get to know some Unilocal’ers, and have a sit down meal, good times, looking forward to the next one coming up. Larry was mentioning Schezwan spciy food, looking forward to it. It also gears us to the next event on the 22nd, but to also be able to sit down and talk about our past experiences and really get to know eachother! To take back my first line… Larry, good job, can’t wait for the next one!

3.5 Stars Thanks for putting this together Larry. Nice to be able to put some faces to the names of some of the Unilocalers. Some great conversations too! Boneless chicken was definitely a hit. Tomato salad was also a hit. Now for my ramen: Tonkotsu Ae Soba Ramen. The noodle quality was definitely good. I am not a ramen expert but it was better than the only other comparable that I have, Toko Foods. It had more of a chewy texture. The only downside was that I found it a bit overly salty. It hit me about an hour later. Reason for the .5 star reduction. Definitely will be back to try other dishes however.
