I used to really enjoy this restaurant, but it has gone sharply downhill. First impressions: décor is shabby and does not have a very Japanese/Korean atmosphere. The menu looks unprofessional, with very poor graphics and spelling errors. The place is festooned with laser-printed posters declaiming things like«Free parking 50 m away!» and«Yes! We delivery!!»(quote) Listening to piped-in oldies like«Danny Boy» and«Que Sera Sera» also doesn’t help the atmosphere. They used to play cute twangy Japanese guitar music. What happened to that? Now, all this could be overlooked if the food and service were good. But the kimchi was too sweet and some weird thing like celery, instead of cabbage. The tempura appetizer looked nice but it was greasy, the dragon roll was uninspired, and they refused(yes, refused) to make bibimbap extra veggies and without rice. And this is not the chef’s artistic temperament, because they used to do it. The sashimi was coarsely cut, and served on a bed of raw mature kale… which is, quite frankly, inedible. Why not some nice greens? I don’t think I’ll go back.

The memories of yesteryear! A must go in Peterborough. It is a bit pricier compared to normal korean places if you compare it to GTA prices but reasonable by Ptrb standards. The food is homey and hearty, delicious and there’s care put into their food. It is a family own restaurant and the friendliness of the staff definitely reflect as such. I especially love their tempura lunch and dinners… though a bit steep in price, but well worth for the comfort. Hoshi is by far the best Korean/japanese restaurant in the ptrb region. To be honest, they are better than some places in Toronto. I’d go back for their kamja tang any day. Love the comfortable setting and low key décor. Great for those after exams stress period and just to hang out with great friends for some good food. Come give them a try, a great lunch and/or dinner option. LOVETHEIR KIMCHIs, seaweed and fish cake banchans!!!

I love Hoshi’s. Yes they are a tad expensive but what a lovely place to spend money. I’ve never been disappointed with my food there, just a few weeks ago I dropped by and ordered a Salmon Combo Lunch with Yam Tempura as an appetizer and some green tea. I should have just ordered the lunch because the yam tempura strips were massive, there was about 5 and decently thick too. They were utterly mouthwatering and for $ 5.95 they were on par with what I expected for the price, My salmon combo was 6 pieces of salmon roll and 6 pieces of salmon nigiri($ 10.95) along with a little salad and a miso soup. Delicious. The service is friendly and attentive and the environment is very soothing and cozy. There are these walled-in booths that are perfect for those out on a date. Their menu has a lot of variety, offering Korean as well as Japanese dishes. And their location is more than convenient, they are just around the block from the bus station. In fact I used to take art classes in the mews right beside them, I would afterwards walk next door for dinner!
