Highly recommend the broasted chicken. The closest I’ve found to good old-fashioned fried chicken. The roasting process(The method essentially combines pressure cooking with deep frying chicken that has been marinated and breaded. — Wikipedia). Tuesdays they have a 9 piece for $ 10 plus tax deal.

I always remember the old days when we were kids and we get a fried chicken which has the home made flavour with a bit of spices, I found the same taste here at Zaki. Very similar to KFC original vintage flavour with more thicker crumbs like popeye’s. The place look modern and clean, it’s a bit dim lighting, our order took about 25 minutes to get ready. Overall, it was nice tasty meal and my brother usually eats here with his friends, he recommended the Philly steaks.

Solid broasted chicken. The chicken is extremely juicy and tender with just the right amount of spices. Pair that with the garlic sauce. They have excellent service and everything is made fresh per order. Have returned on numerous occasions and got other people hooked as well.

We ordered the piece chicken combos and when we picked it up we got three chicken fingers not actual chicken pieces. We were pretty disappointed with it too, the chicken was dry and really hard to bite into. It lacked seasoning as well. the garlic sauce helped the dish but didnt make it memorable. The fires we ok and the bun was dry and not very good. I really wanted to try the actual chicken pieces so I may try it again, but not in a hurry too… Just a meh experience

I just tried zaki for the first time last week. Let’s just say that I have ordered three times since then already and I have already brought new customers They are super professional both locations and the food is frighten amazing. I got both the beef plate and shami plate and it’s super good. They are quick with service. You pay around 20 bucks but I’m telling you it’s worth every penny. Best damn food I have had and even the restaurant when you go in is open space, super clean and fresh. If your looking to try something new I highly recommend this place. I’m one who is very skeptical to trying new places but after numerous people I work with ordered from there I gave it a shot and I’m so glad I did. Google zaki broast and check the website and you will see for yourself. I won’t order that kind of food anywhere else now.

I’ve tried many dishes here, but my favourites are the burgers! I really like the beef burgers, but one day when they were out of them, I tried the fried chicken burger… AMAZING! It’s now my regular, definitely recommend it, especially with Sweet and Sour sauce! Only downside to this restaurant is that its pretty expensive, so I can’t come here often :(

I ordered the burger combo. The fries are amazing, the burger was really good. I’m not sure if it was fresh or frozen though. The place patty couldhave been a bit bigger. The service was top notch.11 bucks was a bit much, though i’ll be back to try other things and those fries again.

I’ve been to both the Baseline and St. Laurent locations, and both were very clean restaurants with helpful staff. The baseline location is much smaller, so seating is limited and it’s first come first serve. The wait time was reasonable, around 10 – 20 minutes depending on the order and size of your group. I ordered the chicken tandoori platter which came with salad, rice, tandoori chicken pieces, and a side order of naan bread. They have complimentary sauces for the meal, but I must say they are gaining fame for the delicious garlic sauce. Everything is made fresh so it was very tasty and flavourful! We also tried the poutine on another visit, and it was great. Very different tasting because the gravy sauce had a slightly spicy flavour which made it stand out. The décor is modern with a middle eastern twist which makes it different from restaurants in the same category. I would definitely recommend either of the locations for take out, but might suggest going to the east end if you want to dine in.

I’m a big fan of fried chicken so I I tried it as it is heavily advertised on their site. Sadly, I was not as impressed as other reviewers. I found the breading to be lacking in flavour and coverage. It was, however, moist and not greasy at all, which I suppose is a plus. The worst part of my experience, however, is that it took 20 minutes to get my food. Based on what I saw of other patrons, this didn’t seem unusual. I agree with other reviews that the garlic sauce is very good, and the fries were delicious. Maybe my expectations were skewed, I was expecting more of a fast-food chicken experience.

Got the 4 piece combo. Pretty good for when you’re in the mood for fried chicken. It’s like KFC used to be back in the old days. Chicken is moist, not greasy, and perfectly salted. Fries are pretty good. The garlic sauce that came with was good with the chicken as well as the fries. Ask for the hot sauce too so you can mix. Also got some lambchops with salad because they didn’t have the chapli kabab. They know how to make lamb here. Wedge of lemon in the salad that tasted great on the lamb. There were tomatoes and red onion which really are a must with any red meat. The roll that came with the combo was perfectly fine. There was a flat bread and rice with the lamb. Rice was nice. Flat bread was good too but already had enough food so I’m going to put some toppings on it and make pizza tomorrow. I’ll be hitting them up again when I’m in the mood for fried chicken.

This is a bit of an ‘on-the-fence’ review. If I wrote a review after my first time trying Zaki, I would probably have given it 5 stars and a great review as what I had was pretty much great. However, if my second visit was my first experience, I would have been much, much more critical. So, without a third time to confirm it being a yay or nay, I think people will have to try for themselves to see if they like it or not. What I will say is that both times I went here was for take-out and both times it was a chicken family meal deal. The first time, the chicken was great! Nicely seasoned, juicy, flavorful. The second time? Well, not anywhere near as good as the chicken tasted more like KFC(sorry KFC lovers). Also what was weird was the first time there was no skin on the chicken and still crispy(which I liked) and the second time there was still skin on it and it was greasy(which was why I found it like KFC). Both times we had fries as the side and the fries were good both times BUT once they get cool, they really lose their taste. Finally, the first time we ordered some of their Nan bread and I am really, really not a fan as it was in no way as good as Indian nan bread. It tasted more like hard pita bread. WAITTIMES Wait times can be long so if you are doing take out, call ahead and put your order in. You’ll likely still end up waiting a bit but it will save you some time. SERVICE Both times the people working there have been really nice so service has definitely been a plus. So, I will likely go back and try them again but will stay away from the nan bread and hope the chicken will be as good as the first time around.

I have been a few times and always order the chicken strips meal. They are tender, flavorful and fresh. The fries are really good too but the serving is way too large for one person — I would recommend sharing. The garlic sauce is amazing and probably the best part! The only part I do not like is the dinner roll that comes with the meal. It is dry and does not taste fresh at all. The décor is modern, and the seating is comfortable if you can find any. The wait times are reasonable about 10 – 15 minutes, which if you are getting something fresh is worth it. The washroom is always kept clean as far as I have seen, and the staff are friendly. Pricing is reasonable for the food too. All in all a good place to grab a sit-down meal with a friend or family. Probably should call ahead for take out though. Make sure to see the photos I have uploaded.

Oh Man Oh Man Oh(Wo)Man? — Is that something people say? I don’t know I’m a little crazy for this chicken. So broasted chicken eh? Fancy schmancy way to say fried I see… Well they do pressurize it so I guess it is fancy. Why should you care? Well its fried chicken without the overwhelming greasy feeling and guilt you often get after devouring said chicken. I really like this place, its simple and fun. You know exactly what you are getting when you order the dish, prices are reasonable and the quality of food and service is top notch.

The tandoori wrap is great — moist — flavourful — and the wrap is not a standard piece of pita bread but instead a fresh warm naan like covering. The décor is contemporary but the work was still not finished in the ceiling and some other small details still need attending to — hopefully they will finish off everything so that the restaurant looks as good as the food tastes.

i read Coy’s review and decided to give this place a go… i got the fried chicken, salad, bun and drink, my gf got the tandoori chicken wrap. my fried chicken was ok… not alot of seasoning on it, but certainly moist enough — nice fresh salad. on the other hand her tandoori wrap was really tasty, fresh, light and the naan was pretty great for a fast food spot. the décor is pretty funny, they obviously did it themselves and gave up on finishing the space off… but that’s ok.

UPDATE: Went for a second visit. Wait time is usually 10 minutes to about a 20 minute wait per customer. Found this out the hard way. So expect a wait upon visit; food is made to order per customer, which means no heat lamps. They told me afterwards that they accept phone orders, so maybe next time I will call ahead and place my order. On another note, two piece broast chicken meal with fries and a bun was good. Definitely reminds me of KFC, but I am sure I am not the first to say that, nor the last. Also saw lots of customers bringing in their laptops, so free WiFi, maybe? :) — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — I finally got the chance to try out Zaki Broast & Grill, and I am addicted! The hubby brought home take out, so I don’t have much to say about how the service was except for what he has told me, which is: –He felt that the service was slow; took 10 minutes to prepare order.(3 others waiting in line) –Menu was overwhelming, hence him being a newbie, he was not sure what to get, or what was the best value for his money. He ended up coming home with 2 tandoori chicken wraps, which cost him $ 16.00 and some change. The chicken wraps aren’t huge, but a fair size, and comes with a small garlic sauce on the side. Okay, I thought the wraps were absolutely delish! The wrap itself is filled with big chunks of tender chicken tandoori, red onion, tomato, and a mayo sauce, which is then wrapped up in a soft tortilla and grilled. It was amazing. But, if you are starving, like my hubby was, it will not fill you! As much as it was delicious, it was a bit steep in price for 2 wraps. The better option for a hungry person would have been to get the fried chicken meal for $ 6.95, or opt for the tandoori wrap meal, where I heard they serve a big heaping of fries with. I am already planning my next visit, but plan on eating there, and ordering the broast chicken meal. Definitely recommended, as its a nice change from other fast food restaurants around Ottawa, and so tasty!

I went here recently with one of my girlfriends. We both had the 2 pieces chicken combo. The combo was $ 6.95 and came with 2 pieces of broasted chicken(obviously), a huge mound of fries, a dinner roll, garlic sauce and a can of pop. The broasted chicken was good, but not as good as the broasted chicken at the now defunct La Hoyo Restaurant in Halifax(they had the BEST broasted chicken ever!). The chicken was greasier than to be expected of broasted chicken, in fact it tasted more like regular fried chicken, but it was still good. Not as salty as most fried chicken, but also not as savoury. I thought that there was very little spicing. The 2 piece combo is a drumstick and a thigh. The fries were ok. Nothing spectacular, just regular fries, although I think they sprinkled some seasoning on them after frying. There were a lot of fries. I actually didn’t even finish them! The dinner roll was good. It was warm and crusty. The garlic sauce had a mayo consistency and I didn’t taste too much garlic in it(good if you’re on a date or something, I guess). Portion size is excellent. You get a lot of bang for your buck. I went for lunch and didn’t have breakfast that morning but was totally stuffed afterwards — and I had about 1⁄3 of my fries left. The restaurant is a little like a fast food joint. You order at the counter, pay, and then when your food is ready, the cashier calls you over and you bring it to your own table. It’s not a big place and not fancy by any means, but the food is good, you get it in a timely manner and the staff are nice. The ketchup comes in little packets. I love ketchup so I had to ask for more packages. It would be nice if they had big bottles or a pump dispenser though. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes fried chicken!

If you haven’t had broasted chicken, I’d say you should try it. I’m a big fan of broasted chicken, it’s a type of fried chicken that’s pretty damn delicious! This isn’t the best fried chicken ever but I have to say it’s right up there in Ottawa and probably the only spot I’ll be eating fried chicken in Ottawa. It’s in the new strip mall by the mega evil Walmart. When you enter it feels like a warehouse but it’s nicely done and brand spanking new. Check out the menu as they have more items than broasted chicken. On my last trips I ordered the broasted chicken extra spicy(start with just the plain for your first visit) and it came with fries, a soft drink and a piece of bread all for $ 6.95!!! If that doesn’t scream cheap eats and a very affordable try, I don’t know what does. The staff are super friendly and really cool as well. Lets keep another cheap, good eats place open in Ottawa for a long time!!!
