Vertigo is exactly how you’d imagine a record store should be. It’s laid back. It’s full of records. And it’s the price you’d want to pay. It has show tickets for the bored and last thoughts if you’re brave enough to ask. In a world where finding sweet vinyl is treated as an impulse buy after licking the sales racks of a hip clothing store clean, we should be happy that places like Vertigo still kick the proverbial ass.

Vertigo is an awesome vinyl shop, and the only one in the market area. Their prices are fair for the market and they are constantly getting in new stock. If you are a vinyl lover(or are looking for used CDs or videos) then Vertigo should definitely be on your list! You can see more reviews for Ottawa vinyl shops by following this link…

Excellent LP shop. A lot of new & used LPs, at very decent prices. A place I go at each time I am in Ottawa

I hail from just outside of Toronto, a city that has about a zillion and one record shops. Since I moved here, I have really only gone to two record shops(one closed down). Vertigo is the other one, still open and found on Rideau Street in the heart of Ottawa’s downtown core. I don’t usually visit this shop unless I am super desperate(sometimes you just HAVE to listen to Conor Oberst on vinyl!) or I am buying concert tickets. Sometimes, more independent concert venues use Vertigo Records as a ticket selling venue. The shop is pretty small, and I have had both good and bad interactions with the staff. We bought our turntable there and the individual that helped us out was really knowledgable and personable, but when we went back to get some speakers, it was the exact opposite. Prices are decent, as far as vinyl goes. The variety is not great, but they do carry a wide variety of genres of music. I pop in if I have time to kill downtown, but usually end up browsing the fliers for concerts on the bulliten-board and leave empty handed.

Vertigo Records is, as the name suggests, a record store. Yes, it also offers DVDs and CDs, but if you are old school and prefer the scratchy authenticity of vinyl, Vertigo Records is for you. The shop is long and heads back deep from the street and the entire left wall is dedicated to bins and bins of 331⁄3 records. And, it isn’t just oldies. I saw some new records there too(White Stripes) so it looks like the reports of the death of vinyl were a little exaggerated. I don’t own a turntable, so I grazed the CD and DVD racks. The DVDs were around $ 10 each, but the selection was thin. I guess people who like their DVDs keep them and don’t trade them in. As for the CDs, they were organized by music genre and then again alphabetically. As per the DVDs, the CD collection broadly covered a lot of bands, but not very deeply. For instance, I found only one Cocteau Twins disc and it was an EP. Discs were selling anywhere from $ 5 to $ 12, depending on the rarity of the disc and the newness. The staff is practically invisible, so you are free to wander and browse without being hassled.
