It’s not bad, it’s not great, it’s ok, it’s Swiss Chalet! My wife and I went to Swiss Chalet for the first time ever. It’s as expected. There were lots of families, but the newly renovated interior is quite nice. We ordered some draft beers, the garlic cheese bread(which was very wet for some reason) and the 1⁄3 rack of rib dinners. The ribs were good, kind of fatty but the flavour was on point. The server was friendly, but didn’t really seem to know too much when asked about specifics. The lemon meringue pie was just ok. Not a bad place to go if you’re looking for something reliable. Still kind of expensive though for what you get.

Get the chicken! My husband orderd Ribs, but it wasn’t really Ribs, it was like cut up pieces of roast beef sort of? I’ve been there a few times, usually good staff but sometimes are waitress doesn’t speak English(and we don’t know how to speak French). This was the case when my husband tried to order Ribs, we were unable to communicate with waitress to realize what that the ribs, weren’t was he was expecting.

Been going to this specific location since the 80s when the waitresses wore dirndls. The charm is still there — the building is in the shape of a Swiss chalet! Fun. The fake plants are kinda sad but I always enjoy the comfort food and friendly service for a great price.

My family was in Ottawa for the day and both my sister and my father absolutely LOVE Swiss Chalet so of course this is their restaurant of choice and who am I to deny them a meal they can’t get back home? As we walked in for a late lunch around 1:30 pm or so, we were greeted and seated quickly by a friendly hostess. I noticed that the restaurant was nice and clean although only a few tables were taken by customers. The waitress arrived quickly to take our drink order. We also decided to get the garlic cheese loaf appetizer. The waitress told us the told us it would take 7 minutes to prepare which was fine. The appetizer arrived 7 minutes later but might have been best if it was about 10 minutes later. The cheese in the centre of the loaf was still cold and not melted but we did not send it back. As we were eating the appetizer, the waitress checked on us and told us our meal would be ready in… 7 minutes(?) I found it strange that everything seems to take 7 minutes. I felt like we were part of some inside joke amongst the staff. No complaints with the service though. The waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Five minutes later(close but no cigar) our main courses arrived. I had a ½ chicken barbecue chicken with fries. There’s always been something about Swiss Chalet’s fries that I love but I can’t place it and this visit was no exception. They were great and the chicken was tasty and cooked perfectly too. The portion size was perfect for me but a hungrier person may have been left a bit unsatisfied. Although Swiss Chalet would not have been my first dining choice in the area, my experience was a good one. When it comes to their speciality which is barbecue chicken, they are doing it right.

It’s a cold Ottawa New Year’s day… I’m sick, I’m hungry, I’m watching movies with my(also sick) friend Jake– we need nourishment, but neither of us can move, let alone look for an open restaurant in the freezing weather, and so, this is my impetus for contacting Swiss Chalet. We go online and order a family meal… This includes: a whole chicken, 4 sides, rolls. Given our condition we order two additional sides, 4 soft drinks, and two pieces of fudge cake. After careful consideration we choose the following from a befitting array choices: 2 x mash potatoes, 1 x french fries, 1 x poutine, 1 x corn, and 1 x coleslaw. We ordered gravy on the side, as well utensils and condiments. The meal also came with Swiss chalet’s dipping sauce… a viscous, salty brine that, I’m hoping, does its job in replenishing my electrolytes and saves my ailing body. Our Family Meal for two came out to $ 57… not exactly inexpensive, but justifiable given that it was delivered to our door. The chicken was cooked well: not too dry or too greasy, and was ample in supply… enough for two meals. Each side was modest, but satisfying… adding an additional side was a good idea, although an expensive one. The poutine was the biggest disappointment, but they were thoughtful enough to leave the gravy on the side so that things didn’t become soupy… they would have been better off leaving the cheese curds to the side as well, by the time our food was delivered the cheese was fully melted. On the note of disappointments, they forgot our rolls… but that was not exactly a deal breaker. On a higher note… the fudge cake was actually pretty delicious, albeit on the sweet side… but served its purpose in fattening us up, aiding in our recovery. When you’re in a pinch, Swiss Chalet delivery is the way to go… It’s consistent(wherever you may find yourself being hungry), nourishing, and timely(our delivery appeared ahead of our expectations). Next time I’m sick, my cupboards are bare, and everything is closed… Swiss Chalet will be my no-brainer, go-to joint for a delivered full course meal. 1⁄31
