I went here for lunch today with a friend. Overall I enjoyed my meal. We both ordered from the Lunch Menu(which is available from 11:30am — 2:00pm). I had the Singapore Laksa($ 9.95) and my friend had the Lemon Chicken($ 10.95). My laksa had rice noodles, bean sprouts, chicken, 1 shrimp and a fried egg. The chicken was so tender and flavourful. It was my favourite part of the meal. Fortunately, there was a lot of chicken. The shrimp was good too, too bad there was only 1. The fried egg was omelette style(not like a sunny-side up or over easy egg). The rice noodles were a little too al dente for me. I would have liked them a little softer. I liked that there were minimal bean sprouts in the dish because I actually don’t like bean sprouts and forgot to tell them to hold the bean sprouts. The broth was a rich curry broth with a slight spiciness to it. I was disappointed that my laksa was only lukewarm. I would have liked it much better if it were hot. I should mention that we were the first customers to arrive for lunch. I saw customers that arrived after us who ordered laksa had steam coming out of their bowls. Why was mine just lukewarm? I don’t know. I hope I didn’t get yesterday’s leftover laksa! I’m going to be very honest here and say that my friend’s Lemon Chicken looked to me like something that’s served at a food court. It didn’t look too appetizing to me. The chicken was coated in a thick batter and the rice looked like it was over-sauced with soy sauce. There wasn’t any lemon sauce poured over the chicken and my friend said that she almost told the server they forgot her lemon sauce but when she bit into the chicken she said it tasted lemony. She said they probably mix the lemon flavour into the batter or somehow get it in the chicken. She said the rice tasted fine and didn’t taste overly soy-sauced. She said her meal was ok, but I did notice that she left behind a bit of the batter. The restaurant is very simple and utilitarian looking. Our server was very nice and he was the only server we saw working while we were there. As it approached noon the place got busier, but our server was still good at checking up on us and getting me more water. The woman working the cash register was also nice. They have their own private parking lot at the back of the restaurant(entrance on Kempster). We didn’t know this and accidentally parked in the parking lot in front of the restaurant which actually belongs to 3001 – 3009 Carling Ave(TAJ Indian Cuisine, Lorenzo’s Pizza, Howard’s Pawn Shop and Apple Tree Medical Clinic), oops! This place is right across the street from the Coliseum Movie Theatre. There are not a lot of places to get laksa in this city, so if you feel like some, come get it here! I would come back for the laksa(hopefully it will be steaming hot the next time). I’m also interested in trying some of their other dishes.

I have been visiting the Singapore Restaurant for over a decade. Come for the Laksa, and stay because the staff and owners are so delightful. While the décor is unassuming, they are right across from the big Cineplex theatre and will be happy to accommodate your movie schedule. This is a casual, comfortable establishment. Their dishes are quite reasonably priced, fresh, and as authentic as you can get in Canada, according to my Malaysian friends. If you like Asian cuisine, you owe it to try the Singapore Restaurant’s Laksa!

We decided to eat very early dinner/very late lunch here after watching a movie at the Coliseum. We had heard it mentioned by friends in the past, so it was a happy coincidence that I even spotted it as we were leaving the theater plaza. Quick U-turn after, and we were the only two customers in a decently-sized, simple, unassuming asian restaurant(although to be fair, they had just opened for the night). We ordered the laksa and the Singapore fried noodles, both to share. We also asked if they had any hainan chicken(partner has been looking for a restaurant in Ottawa that does it, so if you know any please give me a shout!) — but unfortunately they do not. When the owner came out to chat with us later though, he did tell us he would teach my partner how to cook it if he wants. The laksa came in a small bowl, but packed with vermicelli and chicken(couple of shrimps and some egg here and there). We liked it a lot, and definitely a great choice on a –40 kind of day. I only wish it was in a bigger bowl so that I could have had more of the soup(sharing it was not a good idea). The Singapore fried noodles were also decent, with a darker colour to it(they use satay) and less toppings. Very filling meal that was reasonably priced at 30 $ after tax and tip. Service was also attentive(even though it was just us) and the owners, while chatty, seem to be both very nice. We will definitely return for the laksa(in our own respective bowls next time), and maybe try out some of the other curries. As a previous reviewer states, this establishment has been up since 1982, although with the owner’s wistful voice, we gather they might not be as busy as they used to be(owner points to less lunch clientele in particular). I really hope they keep going; there aren’t very many places in town for good laksa(or just laksa period)!

I had to admit I had great expectations for the place as it always comes highly recommended by friends and family. We tried to order as many different dishes as possible to get a good spam of the dishes. The waiter wasn’t very sure what the dishes’ ingredients were. As funny as it might be the best tasting dish were the vegetables. Upon further investigation the waiter told us they put some type of chemical that gave it it’s salty taste. I recommend going during rush hours as they may be more on their A-game but definitely avoid going during slow periods of the day.

We went to the Singapore Restaurant late Friday night and when we first walked in I was a bit skeptical based on the appearance. The interior is almost barren and at first glacé seems like they simply don’t care. However nothing could be further from the truth. We were lucky enough to be served by the owner and it was clear right from the start that he wanted to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. He is a bit chatty so be prepared for that, but he left those diners alone who didn’t want to engage and he talked about a storm to those that did. Since we had never eaten Singaporean food before he was very helpful with the ordering. We ended up getting beef satay to start. The satay sauce was great and the presentation is fun but it wasn’t quite worth the price. For mains we got a Asam chicken and Laksa. The asam was exactly how he explained it would be, a bit sour and outside the norm, fun to try but I dont know that I need it again. the real show stopper is the Laksa. It is chalked full of delicious things and incredibly flavourful. I will definitely be having it again. The meal was affordable, we left very full and happy, you really can’t ask for much more than that.

I finally got around to checking the Singapore Restaurant the other day. It has limited hours for lunch and dinner and is closed on Mondays so be sure to check their schedule. They offer a wide range of dishes including vegetarian options. I am trying out a vegetarian diet to see what it’s like, so I ordered the takeout Satay Tofu. The service was friendly and the interior is simple but nice. Very laid back. I took my meal down to nearby Britannia Beach and ate it on a picnic table. Very tasty though asking them to spice it up extra was a small mistake. Made it difficult to fully enjoy the peanut sauce :(The rice side was of the sticky rice variety and I also enjoyed that. The Singapore Restaurant has been around since 1982 so that speaks of the quality for it to be so enduring in a tough market. Most menu entrees are priced around $ 12 so very affordable as well. Next time I will try out one of their curry dishes…

Am very eager and excited to try the dishes here — hoping that it would remind me of my days in Singapore I ordered a spicy chicken soup and Singapore laksa. The soup was clear with spring onions and bean sprouts accompanied by a spicy paste it was OK. Laksa didn’t look that good — veggies, boiled eggs, shrimp, bean sprouts along with noodles are usually covered in laksa(curry) however the ingredients here overtook the laksa — this could be solved if they can serve it in a slightly larger/wider bowl. Overall the taste was good I felt the curry lacked that bit of creaminess and that suttle tang that gives contrast to this dish. However, the portion was good enough and I was satisfied overall and would go here again to try the other dishes. maybe Btw.the service here was warm and friendly and there is nothing worthwhile to mention about the ambiance

Singapore has been a regular lunch place over the years. It’s a small little restaurant located very close to the Coliseum. When you walk in you’ll notice the place really plain looking. Almost like a hall, nothing fancy at all. I’ve tried many items on the menu but usually only get the lakksa. It’s a bowl of noodles with some light curry, shrimp, chicken and bean sprouts. They also bring some hot sauce for you. I wish I could give the lakksa a 4 star rating and everything else on the menu a 2 or 3 as I really am not a fan of anything else here except for that bowl of deliciousness.

Went here for dinner on a weekday. The place is very diner like in terms of ambiance and service. It is very laid back and the service was warm and friendly. I was just a bit ansy since I was starving and wanted service pronto. I had the chicken soup and a spring roll for starters. The main course included sharing Lemon Chicken and Satay Beef with rice. The lemon chicken was a bit too sweet for me. I actually finished the rest like desert. The satay beef was good. I was expecting a bit of peanut flavour though. We also had an order of their famous singapore noodes. That was really good. Overall an average dining experience.
