My wife and I both had their apple and Brie chicken sandwiches. These were excellent, would definitely recommend getting them if you’re looking for a nice lunch stop in the market. The patio space is fairly nice and the service was amiable. I’d be interested in seeing whether their other menu items are just as good.

Looking at my previous review, I guess it took me over 2 years to return to Patty Boland’s for their Monday night specials, but I did it! My husband and I had dinner here last Monday and we were very pleased. For a cheap pub grub dinner, it was awesome! So on Mondays they have $ 0.35/each wings(orders come in quantities of 8). They have some special flavours that cost $ 0.45/each too. Burgers are $ 3. Fries are $ 2, and poutine is $ 5. You have to buy a beverage in order to get your food at these prices — it doesn’t have to be alcoholic though. We had 8BBQ wings, 2 burgers and an order of fries. This was enough to stuff us! The burgers were good, especially for the price. They looked and tasted like real hand made burger patties(not frozen pre-packaged ones). The bun was plain(yay, no pesky seeds) and the included toppings were shredded lettuce, tomato slices and pickle slices. Everything tasted fresh. The fries looked like they were overdone(they were really brown), but they weren’t. They were excellent. They had the skins on and were very crispy. For $ 2, you get a huge portion. I’m glad we shared 1 portion and didn’t get one each. The wings were crispy and had just the right amount of sauce on them. They weren’t huge, but they weren’t puny either. Service was pretty good. The servers were friendly and were around if you needed them. For the price, I definitely have no complaints. It’s not fine dining, but if you are looking for very cheap pub food that tastes pretty good, I think this is as good as it gets. I try not to eat this kind of food regularly because I like fitting into my clothes and I like not having to have a cardiologist, but when I’m craving wings, burgers and fries and if it’s a Monday, I would go to Patty Boland’s in a heartbeat! FYI: their specials have changed a bit, so if you read my previous review, prices may be different now. I know that Fridays the appetizers are $ 5 now instead of $ 4. And they don’t have $ 5 domestic pints on Mondays anymore.

Went in here, not expecting too much — and were pleasantly surprised. The place is A-OK — and I’d go back for beer, conversation with friends and pub grub. Décor is what you’d expect for an irish pub. Our server was pleasant and the place had an overall good vibe. Would I return: Yes Would I recommend: For a beer and conversation in the market area, yes.

I made a reservation for 6 for a birthday and when we arrived, we were given a great table right by the TV so we can catch the basketball game that night. The owner even took our request to change the channel so we can watch it. This place is awesome! We ordered so many appetizers that I lost count(see the picture that I posted). It came to less than $ 15 a person and we each had a beer, too! They allowed us to bring in our own birthday cake as well! The service from who I assume is the owner was impeccable and it was probably the best service that I ever received my entire life.

Incredibly rude service! Both the bouncer and the woman taking cover were extremely rude. I get that it’s the standard for the Market for bars to take cover, but there’s no need to be incredibly rude. Once we got inside, it was very hard to get a drink from the bar. I did not notice any bar servers around, but they called Last Call fairly quickly so I was only able to get and drink one beer. I must say, the Keith’s I had was nice and cold! I might try this place again, but I wouldn’t stand for the rudeness next time. I would just turn around and leave. If I hadn’t had a bunch of friends already in there, I wouldn’t have bothered.

Now, this is not a review of the pub as a whole, it is more of a review of their St. Patrick’s day, in particular the blatant price gouging and reduced food quality(and selection) on the Irish national day. Maybe I am naïve in thinking that this is something only Patty Boland’s does, but it doesn’t make it any less maddening. We came to Patty’s primarily because we knew one of the musicians play, but I was also looking forward to a nice big pint of Guinness on St. Paddy’s and this seemed like as good a place as any, boy was I disappointed. First of all there was a cover charge, which I was expecting $ 5.00 is not the end of the world, but I am not all that fond of paying a fee for the privilege of spending money at your establishment. There were musicians so I didn’t worry about it, but that’s where things went downhill. The big problem was the drinks. Not only did they increase the price(to $ 8.00) but they DECREASED the size. Normally for your money you get 20 oz of beer, but on St. Paddy’s apparently it is cool to give you 14 oz for more money. Then the beer came, and it was in a plastic cup! As a beer enthusiast it is scandalous to serve stout in a plastic cup, and to charge me 8 $ for 14 oz of it is just shameful. Then it came time to order food. They had a special one-page menu, which I totally understand for a busy night like that, but the prices seemed off. I since have browsed their menu and noticed that everything on the ”Special” St. Paddy’s day menu was at least 1 $ more expensive than normal. One thing on the menu was an Irish stew for $ 11, I figured it was some sort of special so I ordered it. I was expecting a hearty, thick stew that would fill me right up. What I got was a small bowl of wimpy, soupy«Stew» that contained only a couple of pieces of beef and a few chunks of vegetables. Even with the 2 pieces of garlic bread(which were just toasted slices of regular bread) I was still hungry afterwards, and I am a small guy. My girlfriend had a poutine($ 2 more expensive than normal) that she said was tasty, but to call my stew a «main» is a farce. The service was at least decent, not amazing but good enough. She was obviously very busy but she was able to at least get our orders right and was courteous enough. It’s a shame that her management had decided to gouge their customers so much, I’m still irritated 3 days later, which is a surefire sign that I won’t be returning there anytime soon on any day, let alone St. Patrick’s.

Food was OK… typical pub fare, but they had several local brews on tap that were great. Service was great. This was a tough call btw 3 and 4 stars. Having been to some really great pubs I’m a little snotty I guess.

Unfamiliar with the Byward Market area of Ottawa, I found this restaurant by chance. I was greeted outside on the sidewalk by a hostess who seemed eager to bring my family and I in for a meal. The atmosphere inside was your typical pub-scene: loud, packed and energetic, but the food was definitely what helped this place stand out. Large portions and creatively delicious burgers, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this randomly discovered pub held more than met the eye!

Wow, the service was absolutely amazing! I couldn’t believe it: so friendly and helpful. And the Monday specials were an absolute steal! I wouldn’t hesitate coming here again especially on a Monday evening when the food deals are absolutely amazing.

Silly ol’ me … on the way home from my lady’s place we thought we would stop by Metro or Loblaws to pick up some groceries to make a nice dinner… duh??? what was I thinking it of course was January 1st — New Year’s Day… everything was closed. Off we went in search of restaraunts that you could stop in and get a bit to eat. Figuring the Byward Market would be a good place to check out that is where we went. Many of the restaraunts were closed … hence our stop to Patty Boland’s. I have been there a few times since the new ownership this past Summer and even had the good fortune of being given a VIP card months ago when the owner realized that I am a regular on the Clarence St. strip… lol. Anyway, the place was not busy since most smart folks were at home cuddled up and likely keeping warm on this cold 1st day of January. Place is rustic, with a gas fireplace in the front room(closest to the bar) with a wood burning fireplace in the back room … can’t help but love the smell of a wood burning fireplace. We opted to sit near the gas fireplace and ordered a quesadilla and chicken avacado salad to share. Service was wonderful and pleasant, the pints cold and the fire warm. A very pleasant way to end the day — and relaxing. Of course I will be back… :-) …and as you may already know you can’t beat their Monday wings($ 2 lb) and burgers(yes… real meat! $ 3) … crazzzzzy! Cheers and enjoy! :-)

While I had many a fun evening here in my early twenties, this review is for standout service I had awhile back. I came here after a local concert at around midnight on a weekday and expected them to be closed, or at least closed to the idea of happily serving anyone. Other than one other regular sitting at the bar, my date and I were the only ones there. It was still warm out, so we chose a spot on the patio for drinks. I have to say our server was absolutely outstanding. Even though it was late, he made an effort to chat with us and was super pleasant. The drinks were made perfectly and he was super attentive. If I’m ever out for drinks late, this is where I’m coming. No doubt the service isn’t as amazing when they’re busy, but because of this experience I will absolutely head back!

Patty B’s used to be my favourite watering hole in the city. It has gone through a bit of a transition over the last couple of years — or perhaps I’m just turning into an old man — at age 26. There’s often cover now and they hold the line like their neighbours down the street at Heart and Crown. As others have mentioned, expect mandatory coat check. If you’re going there for food it actually is decent but follow my advice below… If you’re looking for a really nice but cozy pub then check this place out mid-week. For someone looking for something like The Cabin but with just slightly fewer popped collars and short skirts then check this place out on a weekend evening. The bartender used to know my drink(and credit card number!) but the staff turnover seems higher now so the service varies. Still a great place but it’s lost some of that great pub atmosphere.

So fun! Went on a Wednesday night, $ 2.50 cover, walked right in. The place has everything you need from patio space, chill bar area downstairs, chill and larger bar area upstairs, dance floor, dj. I even hear they serve food? Maybe that goes down on the main level because where I was –upstairs– this was no time for food, just dancing. At least that was my mindset. The bar staff were really helpful, even to the point of suggesting drinks that give you more bang for your buck. I don’t think high management would necessarily appreciate that, but the college crowd is surely grateful. No mandatory coat check this night, but maybe that’s more of a warmer weather thing. It’s a really fun crowd of people, trustworthy too! Not only did I successfully ditch my coat atop a high wooden shelf but someone helped me get it up there and no one stole it! Patty’s just seems like a place where people congregate to have a fun time and their missions are accomplished.

I went to Patty Boland’s for the first time on Saturday night. After being turned off by the mandatory coat check($ 1.50 + $ 4 cover), I was pleasantly surprised the rest of the night. The bartenders are friendly and fast(and pretty cute), there was a big crowd with a good mix of both genders, and the music was good. They had a live cover band, and the dj spun the latest hip-hop as well as some classics during their breaks. A fun place to go out!
